And don’t forget, there’s then the struggle of once you know your undertone, buying products labelled with that undertone, only for them to be COMPLETELY OFF 😭 like I just swatched some of the elf soft glam foundation, and regardless of their listed undertone, they were all straight up yellow 🥴

Even more difficult to find (unless you use mixing drops of pigment): cool toned black people. Well, first of all you' ll have to argue with those who don' t conceive that a black person can be pink undertoned😤🤬. Remember the tv show Chicago Fire? Their cast is my personal _“Human Skin Illustrated Bible"_ . The character Chief Boden, played by Eamonn Walker is the perfect example (especially because you can see his face side by side with other black or biracial actors). He is clearly *deep magenta* leaning purple when the light hits💓💜 while others are golden or orange. Shot out the the MUA' s of this show because I can tell you that his skin, sadly, doesn' t come in a bottle yet🤦🏻‍♀️. Hellow, XXIst Century????!!!!!

The vein test is the one that finally helped me work out my undertone after ages of looking online for how to find it and always just being confused by how undertone was talked about. I looked at my wrist and saw purple, blue, and green, and it finally made sense. Most of the advice I’d seen online had really specific examples for warm and cool undertones but not neutral.

    • @Kraken_1098
      @Kraken_1098 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

@@Kraken_1098i have the same problems, my veins literally have those 3. But for years I finally understand that I am neutral but more to the warm side. I think the easiest way to see is to try to use some cool undertones makeup on your bare face, especially lips products. I think muted colors work best, but my face looks so bad on cool undertones, but still looks better with warm undertones.

    • @Kraken_1098

@@galgal_is ahh, I see. Thanks for sharing this. I mostly wear lip products and blushes and tend to avoid these with red/orange/terracotta undertones because they pull warm on me and wash me out. Berry and candy pink tones look very natural on me. I have a feeling that I might not even be neutral but actually cool toned lol. Since I have light brown skin but I'm not fair, it's very difficult for me to accurately guess my undertones.

Your video is helpful. Skin tones are complicated. I only found out about five years ago that my deep skin is mostly yellow/warm, a tiny bit neutral, and some olive undertone (you say overtone?). I discovered this ONLY because a custom-blended luminous loose powder I bought always looked casket-ready grey on my skin -- by the time I figured this out, it was too late to return. After speaking to the company and looking at the MUA's formula, I discovered the in-store MUA who made the powder had messed up: added too much extender, not enough of some colors, and didn't bother telling me he couldn't make my exact shade (he also messed up on the custom-blend foundation). So, I spent ~$140 on his mistakes -- 😭. I wanted to save my investment and fixed the powder by adding powders I already had: color-correcting and regular, deeper shades -- including green, yellow, apricot, deep, and tan. Kept tweaking the mix until it matched perfectly. Finally fixed! It was complicated, but happy to save my giant 30 g/~$60 powder.
Sorry for this long post, but if your makeup looks grey, that's a clue it's time to find your true shade & undertone. Go outside and look at the makeup in daylight before plunking down your hard-earned $$$.

Thank you, this is a very helpful guide. I need to get this green pigment to finally check if I'm indeed olive-toned. For the longest time I thought I was actually cool-undertoned, because of the greenish-yellowish hue my skin has, but whenever I tried to wear cool-toned makeup, I looked like a corpse. I figured out that in reality I'm kinda warm-toned, but more leaning toward yellow than orange, which is also a hell to work with, especially since in my country, most of the drugstore brands deliver orange foundation. Not sure why is this so prevalent in a slavic country, but the trend of "copper tan" is ever so strong since I remember. Not sure if makeup brands still try to follow that or what knowing that's what most people want, but it's really rare this orange foundation does any good to anyone.

Not only EVERYTHING in this video, but when you’re drawing/painting/rating humans in any form, OF COURSE YOU USE ORANGE! Human skin is desaturated orange. You add white, grey, and black when you’re doing digital. With actual paint, you have more time for mixing but still. If you colour drop any human, especially in sunlight, it’ll be yellow or orange when you ramp up that saturation. Any and all undertones are just how the skin looks when it’s got blood going thru it. The deceased have no undertones for that very reason.

This probably explains why every red lipstick I have ever tried makes me look like a clown. Still haven’t found one that looks good on me, but I like the idea of the added pigments, especially the green. Olive toned over here and it can be a struggle. Appreciate this information!

Always loved your color theory videos together and loved that you guys did this. With the vein test Im neutral undertone. Most of my foundations lean on the golden warm side. I think i may be neutral leaning on the warmer skin tone. I wear mostly silver jewlery cause i looks better one me 😊

I need professional help to understand my undertone/ overtone 😭😭😭 10:35 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Monica, you should have done a masterclass on this in Bangalore. It would have been very helpful for a lot of us to attend a class in person. Can we have an online masterclass ?

I recently started wearing dark green tops and it’s my new fav color! I’m gonna call it desaturated green now and I think I have olive overtone too because the green looks nice on me. But I’m still unsure of my undertone. Will try the blush test and see if where I lean

I love this and Monica was the reason I realized I myself am neutral olive light-medium and not just warm light -medium. Still have a lot of problems finding flattering red shades of lippies though lmao. Sticking with mauve pinks, terracotta nudes and straight up browns is all I can do

And hardly anyone makes a foundation for olive undertones. Especially medium brown skin with olive undertones. Yes green 😅. None of those yellow, gray, or orange used in the mix for foundations work. So use a drop of green colour corrector. Two faced used to have one, then they changed the packaging and the formula.

So, this might have tipped me off that I’ve got olive tones… I think I’m neutral but leaning warm, I’ve never felt like I totally fit into either. I think the olive might explain it. Started looking at my face and noting a green-gray tinge in the shadows of my skin. Explains why I don’t wear foundation, I’ve literally never found a shade match and have been matched as both warm and neutral before

Look at *BIG FAT THICK VEINS ONLY* please🙏🏼. We all have a bunch of mixed little capillaries on the wrists 💚💙💜💖 no matter what our undertone is. Wrists are the most confusing place. Breasts (especially if they never tan) and biceps have the best veins to easily tell if they are 💙 or 💚.

The best product IMO to test is Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk eyeshadow. If you are cool, that stuff is straight up orange on your lid. If not, it looks like the pretty pink it claims to be. 😊

My test results were: blue-green veins
silver or rose gold jewelry look best.
I look best in bright blushes and lipsticks
Any makeup that is too warm pulls orange on me, but ALSO anything very cool pulls purpley or even gray on me.
Most foundations pull too yellow on me. (I once had a pink color corrector match me as well as or maybe better than some of my foundations.😅)
I feel like I'm neutral, leaning cool based on that?
PS I went wedding dress shopping today, and pure white looked way better on me than ivory or off-white shades. It also brought out the cool/pink tones in my skin in ways I haven't seen before (I almost never wear white).

The test with the clothes is so easy to determine what washes you out and what compliments you. When I did it we started with gold/silver sheets to determine warm or cool and then from bright colors to muted ones..like if you’re pale as me or jaz if you wear orange you’ll look orange 😆 i saw how my skin turned orange as soon she put orange under my face.

Oh, and maybe a question - what do you think about fair olive skin tone? I once tried to get a foundation matching at Sephora and was very discouraged when the lady told me that olive tone is only for a dark skin. I can get really tanned in the summer and then the greenish hue shows more, but when I get pale in the winter, it doesn't suddenly disappear I guess. Or am I wrong?
