    This video, along with the other one featuring these machines, has convinced me to buy the Circuit (and potentially the Erebus haha). I was between this and the Electribe 2 but man does the Circuit looks like it's WAY more fun to use.
    Great jam!

      you won't be disappointed, I would spend time anyway just getting used to the Circuit before adding anything to it. Let me know how you get on.

    • @MrNakkeru
      @MrNakkeru 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bought one yesterday! I love it, within the first 10 minutes of jamming I already had a couple of session that I like.
      But you are right, this device is more powerful than it seems at first, so I'll spend a couple of months learning my way through it, and after that I'll start adding my own samples and diving deeper into the synths using the editor.
      Only after that I'll get an external analog synth, but really, the Erebus looks about right. Analog, simple layout, and built-in delay. If only I've kept my Volca Keys...

    Thats pretty cool. I love the sequencer on the Circuit - Its probably the best integrated sequencer I've ever come across on a hardware synth... and yeah, I have found it plays nicely with external kit (shame that it can't recordMIDI data from an external synth... yet! I am hopful Novation will add this in a Firmware update). I also wish it had say, an extra two channels that were especially for external gear - so channel 1,2 and 10 would be the circuit, and then say, channel 3 and four were just channels for external gear that could be sequenced on Circuit... anyway I am dreaming. I really love this thing.
    I'm not familiar with the Erebus... sounds great though!

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Clayton Wakefield Totally agree with you. I love using the sequencer on the Circuit. At the moment it seems they are working more towards software to be able to edit the sounds and import your own drum sounds which doesn't really interest me as I love the fact no computers are involved and I don't have to spend my time staring at a screen again ! We can dream about the other sequencer channels .... who knows. Happy music making.

      @andypidcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey sorry for the delay in response. How you getting on? Erebus yet ? The Erebus will arrive with midi 'omni on' so you will need to open up the back of the erebus (the 4 screws holding the rubber feet in place) and change the dip switches you will see so only dip switch number 1 on will give you midi Ch 1. Dip switch number 2 on will give you midi Ch 2 etc. up to you whether you want it to respond to synth 1 or 2 from the Circuit. your choice. also if you have this set up you might like this www.mixingtable.com/cirebus-stand-circuit-erebus

    Hi Andy, apologies for setting another question but... I got my Circuit a couple of days ago and struggling a bit with but will persevere. Do you think I might be able to connect it to my Microbrute (don't have an Erebus) for similar results? This is assuming that I have the talent and imagination which unfortunately I don't :)

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robin Brinckley Hey Robin, It's worth sticking with it, don't give up ! This will be great linked up with your Microbrute. Just make sure your M'brute hasn't got midi omni 'on' assign the m'brute to a either midi channel 1 or 2. this will relate to synth 1 or 2 on the circuit - you've probably worked this out by now. I just sat with a pair of h'phones and just fiddled with the circuit first until you get comfortable with how it works then link it to other gear later makes more sense rather than trying to make everything work together and sound great straight away ! you're right this gear is really great but it still can't replace human musicality. The step sequencer is a good place to start putting ideas down just adding one note at a time you will soon come up with some good stuff. Let me know how you get on would love to hear some.

    Hi Andy, really loved the video and gives me some ideas of what I might try out with my circuit and some other gear I have. Alas, no Dreadbox.
    One thing I'd like to know as I'm quite new to electronic music. Are you only feeding the Bass synth to the Dreadbox as it seems to me it is only affecting that channel (Synth 2?). If so how, and if not, what's happening so only that channel seems to be the one Dreadboxed? Sorry if this is an obvious thing, but as I said, new to electronica world.
    Thanks.
    Frank

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Frank, Yes you are right. On the Circuit you can use either synth 1 or synth 2 to trigger the dreadbox. Synth 1 is always set to midi chan 1 and synt 2 is always set to midi chan 2 so whichever one you use you will need to set the midi chan on the dreadbox (or whatever piece of gear you have connected) to the corresponding chan. Hope that helps !

    I honestly have mixed feelings about the novation circuit.
    maybe i am dumb. or maybe its just me but i can't get my head around it when i test it in store. but that price for the performance is attractive.
    what are your thoughts? or are you going to do a video soon on it?

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Will Fehlhaber Music Hi Will, I understand what you mean about the Circuit but it depends how you approach it. I'm a keyboard player by trade but this makes you play thing differently and come up with ideas I never would on a traditional 'Keys' setup. Personally I love the fact I'm not checking a screen all the time, it's not an amazing synth engine but a few macro twists and you can get some very usable sounds IMHO, but the drum sounds are great. The best thing by far though is the sequencer and the way you can link patterns and create up to 128 beat patterns for each of the synths and drums is brilliant. Not done a video on it yet, there seems to be so much on y'tube at the moment. I think it will be interesting to see if Novation make a circuit 'pro' would love that !

    At 2:20 I'm hearing 3 synths. But the circuit has only 2 synth tracks, and assume one is being used to control the dreadbox.
    So how are you getting 3? Is the arpeggio a sample or something? (I don't have a circuit so probably missing something simple.)

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +David Holmes Hey, Lucky you winning an Erebus ! I'm a keyboard player by trade and had been looking for something different to create music on and have discovered the Novation circuit and loving it. I have set up the Erebus to receive on midi Ch2 - you have to open up the back of the Erebus (the 4 screws that hold the feet on) and change the 3 dip switches so the Erebus receives on a specific midi ch. It's factory set to omni on so it will receive on all midi channels so you will want to change this. In the the video I use synth 2 on the Circuit (which is always set to Ch 2) will now play both the Circuit sound and the Erebus so by using the mixer function on the Circuit you can mix in or take out the sound of the synth 2 on the circuit whilst leaving the Erebus to do it's thing. If you get complimentary sounds working together it is an amazingly powerful set up. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this set up. Hope that helps and let me know how you get on.

    • @duketranslucent3rd
      @duketranslucent3rd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Circuit and Mono Station are chalk and cheese. Really depends what you want. Circuit is much more approachable but, as a consequence, not as deep. Mono Station is a mono synth (as its name implies) and deeper to get the best out of. See th-cam.com/video/yeabaAmqDHw/w-d-xo.html

    Getting started. Would you recommend this setup or?

    • @andypidcock
      @andypidcock  5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hey Dry, If you are just getting started I couldn't recommend the Novation Circuit highly enough. Great to start on and can grow with most of the gear out there that you may want to add to it. If you are just starting out - don't get to much gear first, just get one piece of gear (the circuit) and spend loads of time with it. That way you will understand it inside out then add another piece of gear to it and do the same - spend time with that setup etc. etc. I know it's boring but if you get to much gear at the start you will get overwhelmed, frustrated and won't make good music at the end of the day. Limit yourself, that is the gateway to creativity ! best
