      @AndrewmanGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@GigabearPanda I really don't think this project will go well. I'm a software developer myself and though I have not ventured into the video game industry, I do know a thing or two about how software gets made.
      First of all, the premise of this game screams unobtainable expectations. The idea of a game that offers virtually every genre is not too far fetched if you consider games like Garry's Mod or Roblox that act more as 'platforms' for other people's creations than actual games themselves. But the idea of a game that is "the last game you'll ever play" is so far fetched and, quite frankly, more akin to hype-bait that I have to assume that these developers are looking for a quick payday. For a game to be the "last game you'll ever play", it has to have the RPG elements of an Elder Scrolls game. The modern satirical open world of a GTA game. The fast-paced adrenaline rush of a Call of Duty game. The tension of a Battle Royale game. The strategy of a Civilization game. You get the idea. To claim that a single game will be the "last game you'll ever play" should throw red flags off the wazoo because it's more believable that the game keeps its promise by killing each and every person who plays it than the developers actually delivering anything close to revolutionary.
      Second, ignoring the massively overinflated promises, the development team is unbelievably small. Let's take a roll call. Developer? here. Marketer? here. Rest of the team? absent. I'm all for small team projects, but only if the team acknowledges that it is small and adjusts it's feature load accordingly. Phasmophobia was created by one developer over the course of like 8 months. Most of the art in the game is assets. Small teams can certainly work. But Phasmophobia is a relatively simple level-based game. Not a massive open world promising a million players. It doesnt matter if one of the developers considers himself a genius. He could be the best developer on the planet and it wouldn't change much. It's simply too much work and not enough people.
      Third, well, its time for the lightening round.
      The idea that there is no art team in sight and the developers are insistent on using only store assets is a huge red flag as the lack of a dedicated artist severely limits the ability for the game to add new worlds, locations, items, etc.
      The fact that the game plans to release in just a few months is not a good sign. Once it releases, the bug requests will start to pour in and with a team that small, they will clog up any new development. The developers will lose motivation and this game will not get past alpha.
      The promise of "a million players" on one server because they've discovered something that's not been done before (some magic involving enums and P2P) is very unlikely. If it were true, they could just patent the method and become millionares that way. Yet they've instead decided to make this game. I don't buy it. Plus, the explanation for how their method works seems like BS.
      In a year, if this game has taken off and become the revolutionary icon that it promises to be, feel free to comment below this and say you told me so, but I really do not think I'll be receiving that comment.

    • @AndrewmanGaming
      @AndrewmanGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@GigabearPanda Thank you for the comment. I am still very pessimistic about the project but you have cleared a few things up. I was originally under the impression that the developers were planning to use exclusively assets bought from the store. Hearing that this is only a step in the process does bring me some hope. On a similar note, a single world hosting millions of players does sound more feasible if they are very far from each other and not interacting with each other 99% of the time. But like you said, this would probably break whenever players group together for whatever reason.
      My chief concern still exists though and that is scope. This game advertises itself as the game to end all games, or as they put it "the last game you'll ever play." By setting the bar so high, this game distances itself from other games that were developed by small teams. You mentioned Valheim and No Man's Sky as examples of successful games developed by small teams. Both of these games have a clear definition, and a clear scope. Valheim is an exploration survival game. No Man's Sky is also an exploration game with base building and combat elements. Dreamworld on the other hand is... well it's not easy to describe at all because the scope is simply *everything*. How can one team pull off everything?
      I suppose only time will tell with this game. One of our comments will age rather poorly in a year or two. I hope it's mine for your sake and the sake of the 2 grand you've invested in this project. All my life I've wanted an "everything" game, but we're just not there yet. Beautiful and engaging open worlds full of things to do take time, money, and a whole lotta manpower. The "everything" game will be possible one day, but I suspect it won't be until advances in AI diminish the importance of manpower in the equation.

    Ugh, why did I even start watching this video… Maybe I'm completely off, but actually knowing what an "enum" is-a named list of constant values-makes watching this even harder. I mean sending enums over a network so the game performs better than all the other games? What? That's wrong on so many levels and doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Any first year CS student should know. You only transmit values-so the value of an enum member at best-and that's basically what every other game does, too. Not even sure I should continue watching once he starts talking about parallel dimensions updating slowly over time, because this doesn't sound like a connected world with millions (or even just hundreds) of players, it sounds like a session based approach (think Destiny or Warframe). Also look forward to glitches and item dupes thanks to "slow syncrhonization". Believe me, knowing a bit about programming makes watching stuff like this way worse… you can't even laugh about it, because there are always enough people with more than enough money believing in it… I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe this could become the next big thing, but from that "presentation" alone I have some serious doubts.

    I wrote that on another video about this scam as well:
    ---
    This peer to peer, no central server thing, they claim could host millions of players is nonsense. The speed of light is really fast, and the Earth isn't all too big from a lightbeam's perspective, but when a system has to zip this lightbeam back and forth literally several million times within fractions of a second to update everyone in the game world, then this can't be real-time. There will a phenomenon kick in known as "light lag". To update a million people at the same time without a central node but via p2p on a planet with a circumference of over 40.000 km and a diameter of over 12.000 km? Yeah, that would require an alcubierre style of faster than light spacial warpfield to make that happen (and for all we know, the alcubierre warpfield metric is in violation of the known laws of physics). We're talking about decaseconds of lag time - not milliseconds.
    So, this p2p hosting of millions of people sequentially will never be possible in real time on Earth; not even in a hundred years, when technology might be supercheap to host millions of people in one gameworld. It's quite literally physically impossible to make a realtime MMORPG this way. You need a central server for that, and even then: A million players on one server would be a technological nightmare to manage.

    14:42 I sure don't feel bad for him. This was a time when billions of much poorer people lost their jobs, and others were straightup dying from the pandemic. If this guy acts all weepy in the trailer, like he expects the world to pity him just for losing a cushy job and his gf while he still enjoyed a very privileged life, it's a screw-you to the people who *really* suffered at that time.

    I just realized that, essentially, their "algorithm" is to remove years of study in server validation which used for security and to have less hackers in MMO.
    In theory, yes, they'd load much more people. In practice, 99% of those are bots and hackers.

    enum value? what, that's not how it works, did they ever program? A static object has no scripts except their matrix converted to 3 vectors, size, rotation and scale, additionally to that a collider...and maybe a rigidbody.... you can not improve it any further, except using a more simple collision type, fewer vertices and a basic shader. I won't even get started with peer to peer conection.... They searched online for some fancy terms and decided, "hey this sounds techi, let's scam some clueless people". Reminds me of those movie scenes with hacker using random, unrelated programmer jargon.

    For Rockstar it took from 2010 to 2018 to create Red Dead Redemption 2. The estimated amount of people worked on RDR2, voice actors, etc included is around 4300+ people. World of Warcraft took roughly 5 years to create. The vanila, first release.
    And these guys want the world to believe that 3 of them can pull off something that the combined dev teams of all the MMO in existance wouldn't be able to do, not even on paper.
    ANd people fall for this.
    I am speachless.

    4:30 To the guy that worked at Facebook, Google and Apple, that's called peer-to-peer (p2p), it's a 20 year oldish technology and it doesn't work for what they want to do for a lot of reasons, like: latency, drops, cheaters, synchronization, server-validation, client-balancing problems (the slowest client will slow down all the others), even firewalls and antiviruses could be a problem; also if they want to do a hybrid system with a server-side/p2p model the balancing is really complex, the server will use a frequency, wtf do you do on the clients?. The lack of perspective of these two is simply astonishing.

    Oh and: The video they showed is stitched together from the demonstation videos of the game assets they bought to make this kickstarter campaign. So, there is no procedural world generated. What we see in their video is just the snippets taken from the creators of the game assets. Also, the pirate cove is the standard demo-level of one of the asset bundles they bought. They literally did nothing on their own. All of this is a lie, a mirage, a scam - like you said. It's a criminal enterprise at work here in my opinion, and a lot of people just lost their money... and Kickstarter helped to lose them their money (and profitted off of it too, because it was not a lack of complains from the community that it still was up and running as a kickstarter campaign). Nobody can trust a Kickstarter anymore.

    I think the problem with using marketplace assets is that people use them as an excuse to not do the core game work themselves. I have nothing against buying textures, models or shaders IF they fit the game or are being modified to fit the game and the core of the game is still unique and made by the devs themselves. This becomes an issue when people just buy ready made levels or whole game features with scripts and everything and just ditch them together. If someone would use valves network API for the networking, it wouldn't be a problem because the networking is not the game itself, it's just a tool. But when they just throw a complete FPS game kit in there, the core of the game is something other people made and therefore does not even fully fit the needs and ideas of the games developers.

      I dont understand this either and this one is particularly jarring because they want to make something not even AAA studios could touch and they have a shoe string budget, no experience and non existing manpower.
      And their claims are full of shit from top to bottom, only retards would back this up who have no ideas about the limitation of technology.
