    Good video.
    Use old cardboard to shape a “shield” around the exhaust pipe below the filter to keep the oil from getting on the exhaust.
    Air scoop does help cool the transfer case. These cars have problematic transfer cases so all the help you can give them is good.
    Cheers

    I have the HAYNES Workshop Manual for my X-Type. They recommend to do oil change every 6000 miles or 6 month. Before I had a Mercedes E-Class from 1993. They wrote in the handbook oil change every 10.000 km or once in a year. I will keep this interval also for my Jag. (The Mercedes with 2.2L petrol engine had run 360.000km, when I sold it.) So in my opnion it makes sense to perform the oil change more often than specified in the Jaguar manual. I use only oil wich fulfills Jag (Ford) spec.

      I just went by the service book and as the car doesn't do a high yearly mileage I will do it every 10.000 miles. The trick is to use a well respected brand of oil and buy it at the sale price.

      They write whatever they want. With a good synthetic oil you can change it only after 100'000 kilometers. The filter although... I'd change it around every 30'000 kilometres or less if you drive in the city a lot.

    Loving the videos, I bought myself a v6 2.5 se as a treat for my 40th birthday, obviously the old girl had a few issues and i needed some tips. I've watched all your how to guides and they've been a massive help. Keep up the good work sir and many thanks for your time and efforts.

    Didnt have that plastic bit on my 2005 2.5L Estate. I bought it with only one previous owner and 32t km on the clock so i dont think it has been discarded over time. its just not there from the start.

    Mahle was probably the OE supplier to jag for the filters in the first place. I would say that fram one is a cheaper filter brand in all fairness at least it wasn’t crossland

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FRAM are/were American and Mahle is Austrian. Jag OEM are made in Germany and probably Bosch. They all work equally well.

    I'm really enjoying your videos, my missus has even been watching!
    I'm just starting to overhaul my xtype as I type (toying with a new car but decided that better the devil you know!) starting with the driveshafts tomorrow then I want the ride to be like new so I'm gonna put all new suspension bushes all round, your vids will be a great help.
    I may have to tap you up for some info lol.
    many thanks

      Thanks. I am glad they are helpful. Most jobs are straightforward - most of the effort is overcoming rusted up nuts and bolts. I found the kitchen carameliser can loosen most things off.

  • @jaguarrroman
    @jaguarrroman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could wind some belt around the filter and unscrew it with some wrench handle. This method works on any kind of oil filters. But the rest job was done decently, LIKE.

      I have a strap wrench but I couldn't get it in at the right angle. Went Old Skool for this one.

    Interesting video thank you, but I'd note a few points.
    1. As someone that has always driven older cars, I know the secret to longevity is regular oil changes. By regular, I mean no more than 12 months or 6,000 miles, whatever the book states. Manufacturers are only interested in your expensive car components outlasting the warranty period, no longer.
    2. Shell Helix is great oil, but Mannol 7707 is fully synthetic, meets the standards and 20L (enough for 3x oil change) can be bought on Ebay for £42. A mid range oil changed more frequently, is much better IMHO than a top grade oil stretched to its limit.
    3. ALWAYS change the oil filter, no matter how good it looks, even if you fitted it yourself last month. They are just too cheap to skimp on.
    4. Having watched teardown videos on various brands of oil filters, I'd never buy Fram again. I always use MANN filters.
    I've never read a bad review about Mannol oils and think the pricing is down to their focus on trade, rather than counter retail sales.
    Just ordered some for my first oil change on my recently acquired 3.0 X350 XJ6, so will be able to update if anyone is interested, after I change the oil in next week or so.

      I think it is best to stick with what you know. I have been using Shell oil and Fram filters for over 40 years without any problems. Any of the big names are good - even Halfords own brand is made by Comma. I have never heard of Mannol, apparently it is made in Lithuania and has very mixed reviews over the internet. Personally I just look out for the good price deals and buy a well known branded name for the same or lower price as an unknown (to me) brand. Each to their own.

    • @matthewjenkins1161
      @matthewjenkins1161 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnnysevengun A part of SCT Germany, that manufactures in Lithuania. Been using their products for years and not seen the reviews you mention. You likely haven't heard of them, because until recently they've not concentrated on retail sales.

    Actually, Mahle is a very good oil filter. I use this one without any doubts at all, so you can apply it in the future as well.

    Really don't like piercing oil filters with a screw driver. So I went to Harbor Freight and bought a end cap oil filter removal tool. You get three for different size filters and it's MADE IN CHINA.. where else would it be made... and it's cheap. But it works... Full synthetic oil and oil filter was also CHEAP at WALMART. Both stores are OPEN during this CoronaVirus time... But beware of the customers as few wear a face mask. I am a little confused as to where to put the FLOOR JACK under the car as this is my first Jaguar x-type but I will figure it out.

  • @MyManiacGamer

    any tips on how to use jack stands with the x type as hard to find any info online, cheers.

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  ปีที่แล้ว

      At the front use a trolley jack to raise the car on the frame rails and put the stands beside them. At the back raise the car on the spring pads (unless you are changing the springs) and put the stands beside them. Use wooden blocks to prevent the jack cutting into the metal parts. • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really good price. Mind they don't skimp using cheap oil.

      This video shows how it is done. th-cam.com/video/zVcejZRsvpg/w-d-xo.html. You need the special tool. I tried to replace the front one (under the airbox) and found it had been rounded so I had to pay the garage to do it. However it turned out it wasn't the sensor but airleaks in the manifold which they kindly fixed.

    Filters are usually tightened "By Hand" but there's not much chance of taking it off by hand. .
    Mahle are decent filters

    What’s wrong with my x type 2.2 diesel gearbox
    The warning shows gearbox fault
    Then you switch off re start and it runs good
    What’s wrong
    Has any body come across this fault ?

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like it needs an oil change.

      Is your car automatic? Mine is manual (stick shift). You need to check the codes to see what has brought the light on. You can do this by holding down the trip meter switch and turning the key to position 2. You will see the codes under the speedo needle. Scroll through by pushing the trip button until you find dtc. Write down the codes and use the internet to find out what they mean. Another way is to use an OBD2 reader. These cost about $15 from e-bay. We can go forward from there.
