Glad you're back. Let me give you a little insight into why Freddie wrote this song (reportedly one of his favourites). He was in a relationship with a Winne Kerchberger who was German (while they used their recording studio in Munich). However, the neither of them spoke German or English retrospectively and it became a MASSIVE barrier. Winne was also a Chef and refused to leave his business and go and live with Freddie in London. In the meantime, Freddie had also met Jim Hutton and was born between two lovers. Freddie's good friend Barbara Valentina (who is in the Hard Life video - the lady that steps on Freddie's toes towards the end) used to act as an Interpreter. However, by then Freddie's heart was going more towards Jim but he just didn't know what to do with Winne. Unfortunately, Winne died of AIDS before Freddie passed away. Glad you’re back! Glad also to hear you’ve been away on holiday. I love this song, I don’t particularly love the video although Roger and Deacy’s expressions are hilarious. I just don’t get it, what Freddie is trying to say through the costumes and set seems to have no relevance to the lyrics, but that’s just my opinion. However there is an awesome live version at Rock in Rio that I love and watch regularly, and knowing how you love Freddie, I’m sure you will enjoy. And can I suggest you listen to Thank You by Led Zep? It’s absolutely beautiful

Brian is the one walking up the stairs with the coffin shaped guitar case. Freddie took inspiration from the opera Pagliacci for some of the costumes ideas and the idea of the pain of love. Roger, John and Brian all HATED the visuals and costumes. Though personally I adore Brian's costume. The skull guitar actually works and Brian still has it in his collection.
