For anyone who couldn’t tell what was said at the very end, it’s “Wouldn’t the world be better if we took nonsense more seriously?”, spoken by Marvin Yagoda, original founder and owner of Martin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum backwards. It’s a great quote and perfectly sums up the song.
“Hidden in the Sand” deals with the themes of betrayal and appearance v.s. reality. The character whose perspective the song is written from feels betrayed by a woman who left him for another man, as he feels that he loves her more. The music video for this song depicts a cruise ship full of people. There are scenes of them being kind to one another and generally being good people. Soon, however, a woodpecker pecks a hole into the deck of the ship, and it begins to sink and burn. In the ensuing chaos, the people panic and turn on each other, everyone fighting for a way off. This is a way of showing that the character feels that all people, no matter how kind and generous they may appear to be, have evil and selfishness lying just under the surface, “hidden in the sand.” Eventually, everyone dies because of their own selfishness. The only one who doesn’t panic is the captain, who sits on top of the ship playing the ukelele and letting the water slowly take him under. This is possibly suggesting that there is no way to get rid of the unthinking greed within all people, and one can only accept it.
i thought this was a reference to the titanic where the crew didn't panic even though the ship was sinking and just continued singing, but you right tho
That backwards statement at the end, if you reverse it, says “Wouldn’t the world be better off if we took nonsense more seriously,” before it cuts off.
We were playing in the sand And you found a little band You told me you fell in love with it Hadn't gone as I'd planned When you had to bid adieu Said you'd never love anew I wondered if I could hold it And fall in love with it too You told me to buy a pony But all I wanted was you [Hook] Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm (ooh, ooh, ooh) Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm (ooh, ooh, ooh) Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm-mm Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm (ooh, ooh, ooh) Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm-mm Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm (ooh, ooh, ooh) Ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh... Its because this song is about the titanic, its said that the people who were playing de music were told to ceep calm and ceep on playing the music. Your welcome.
Actually, the captain represents a man that is putting a blind eye to his woman falling out of love, like what the last unknown said in another comment. It's why he did nothing until to the very end
Well, captains are actually supposed to go down with their ship if it sinks. Not 100% sure why or if they still do that, but it happened with the Titanic and other ships that have sinked in the past.
ok i reversed the end : and it says: wouldn’t the world be better off if we took nonsense more seriously (i think) idk if everyone knew this already but yea ...
Technically, it could be a reference to the lyrics of the song. Because, in a way, they are nonsence but if you start actually reading into them, you'll undersand that, well, they actually have a hidden, secret meaning
@@Wilson_brb genius lyrics said that it portrays how everyone has evil hidden under the sand even if they seem nice on the surface, and that "Eventually, everyone dies because of their own selfishness."

I played this song while my father was in the hospital after relapsing. He was diagnosed with ATLL, Adult T-Cell Leukemia Lymphoma. He was only 35 when he died on 11/1122. I showed this song to him months before his passing and told him I thought of him every time I played this song. A short but sweet melodies, with so many memories. Coming back to this song after almost a year after his passing is definitely something I needed.
LYRICS: We were playing in the sand And you found a little band You told me you fell in love with it Hadn't gone as I planned When you had to bid adieu Said you'd never love anew I wondered if I could hold it and fall in love with it too You told me buy a pony But all I wanted was you
This song shows the people's real personality deep inside, which is "hidden in the sand". They were acting all happy and nice, but when the boat was sinking, they all just abandoned each other and became very arrogant, except for the captain.
That hits different when you read about the sewol ferry tragedy, the captain was the one that lied to the children and they were calm and listened to his words. The ones that ignored the captain are the ones That's alive today. 🎗
The duality of this song is crazy. On the one hand it's spooky like it could be the background sound of a nightmare, but on the other hand it's also comforting and soothing
They have some pretty long songs too. Taken for a Ride and Hymn for a Scarecrow are almost 5 minutes, Welcome to Tally Hall is over 5 minutes (including the intro and outro), Fate of the Stars is almost 7 minutes long, and Dream Sweet in Sea Major is exactly 7 minutes long.
This song is amazing with a dark turn that told me alot. "In a moment of distress, nobody care about you. They spend that moment trying to save themselves rather than others."
It's called human nature. Of course people will look for a way to save themselves. Why die for others we barley know? You'd do it, I'd do it and the band would do it.
it’s called self-preservation. the human body does whatever it can to keep you alive even if it costs the lives of others. it’s a natural, instinctual trait that all people have. what i’m saying is _it’s only up to you to save yourself._
To be fair it seems nobody really knew anybody else on the ship beyond.. well, that they all were there on the ship, so it's not like they were close friends or family they'd particularly care about saving immediatly, it's not like ship wrecks are just, slow and peaceful and everyone can take their sweet time yknow?
Bruh, it’s so weird how it goes from there playing a song and everyone’s happy too the boat is on fire people are killing other people and lovers are abandoning each other... it gives me chills cause some people would actually do that.
Their morals, their code; it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. You'll see- I'll show you. When the chips are down these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. See I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve. The Joker - Heath Ledger
Wait til you know what the song is about, it's about you being with your best friend and he loses interest and you slowly lose touch with him, it's really sad yet quite accurate
We were playing in the sand And you found a little band You told me you fell in love with it Hadn't gone as I planned When you had to bid adieu Said you'd never love anew I wondered if I could hold it And fall in love with it too You told me to buy a pony But all I wanted was you
Maybe you're right, but i like to think that is more like... people in the end showing how they truly are, and well sometimes it's like you say, but sometimes... it can be really good or wholesome
@@MinaWalker it only takes 3 days for one to go feral in isolation from all humanity. We were not built to be reasonable. We were not built to be happy. We were built to stay alive, no matter the cost. In the end, we are still animals, trying desperately to survive. Instinct is far beyond and far more powerful than reason.
@@subnauticaispog7580 I don't think one is more 'powerful' than the other. They each have their own situations they excell at. It's just that instinct is just really, really good at convincing people that that's not the case.

How thoughtful of the guy in the boat (1:22). He saved all those people by sacrificing himself from getting on the boat that was catching on fire. What a hero.
Maybe this symbolises how- whenever someone causes a problem in the economy, or whatever, they never get their karma, everyone else falls while they run away and end up living their happy life while everyones drowning in sorry, drowning in regrets- **TOO DEEP CLOUD**
@CloudTheMuffinClown *It also shows who the people on the ship really r-* *Before the tragedy happened, they were all vibing but as soon as the boat started sinking, it was everyone for themselves* *Nothing wrong with trying to escape disaster tho :v* *But at **1:09**, the guy shoves the woman aside like that just shows how the guy's really like ;-;* *Idek, I'm dumb lol*
@@SleepyBilly yeah, in the end he ended up burning even though he brought others down for his safety- showing that everytime you hurt someone, it wont even help you in the end.
I feel like not enough people are talking about a few things, so i'll make my own theory on this video. The man with the cane: When he heard the music, he was so happy that he got up and danced. Everyone enjoyed his performance, until the ship went down. Then they didn't care about him. I think he represents that people will be amazed by your talents, not by your personality. The husband and wife: They were in love and were even holding hands and kissing. But, when danger came about, the husband shoved her away and didn't care about what happened to her. I think this represents that lovers will seem to love you more then anything, but when push comes to shove, will leave you in the dirt The cat and mice: The cat and mice were happy and singing until the boat started sinking. Then, in a nervous state, the cat ate up the mice. Originally, I thought this was about people that will eat to hide their stress, but looking at it more, I realized that it's about some people who try to help, but end up hurting others instead The captain: My favorite character, he sang his song and cheered everyone up. He stayed on the ship when others didn't. I think this represents that true friends will stick with you. I'll go more into detail with my next one The boat: This boat had no control over anything. They sank down, all because of the bird. I think this represents people who don't do well with pressure. But with true friends, like the caption, he stayed with the boat, still singing his song, trying to bring joy The bird: Ah yes, the one who ended countless lives for no reason. I think the bird represents problems, and the people are how others react to these problems.
I think the cat and mice represent when people don’t heed warnings and gut feelings, because the present is good. For example, if you know the nature of a person or in the past they have been mean, tend to gossip, or cheat, but you choose stay with them because they are nice right then. That is putting yourself in a dangerous situation. So I guess you could take it as choose you’re friends carefully or be careful what kind of environments you put yourself in.
Disasters actually mostly bring out the best of us, for example, during 9/11 people were moving down the stories calmly allowing firefighters to pass despite imminent death. During Hurricane Katrina there were a lot of reports of violence. But after the journalists left all of those reports were found to be fiction and there had been much less violence. Sure there’s looting but looters were actively trying to help survivors sharing sometimes working with the police. During London bombings people would also help out each other from rubble.
I love how the cat’s reaction is to instantly start stress eating.
"AH FUCK, MY LAST MEAL"

Im no english teacher but that was a great analysis 💯👏
That’s fucked up bro

Tally hall doesn’t drag out their songs and I love it, the songs are short and to the point which keeps them interesting the whole way through.
Its that or theirs like 3 songs in 1
They have some pretty long songs too.

I remember listening to this 13 years ago. Here I am in 2024, and it is still as good as I remember it to be.
@@nathanms6890 true i think I would save the ones ik like my family if we where all in the same place
true
it’s called self-preservation. the human body does whatever it can to keep you alive even if it costs the lives of others. it’s a natural, instinctual trait that all people have. what i’m saying is _it’s only up to you to save yourself._
By the way, at the end of the video the bird says
“Wouldn’t the world be better off without your madness” (I think-) in reverse:)
ooooohhhhh I listened to it on my Alexa and i heard a voice at the end and I always wondered what it said

Instinct is no match for reason
@@MinaWalker it only takes 3 days for one to go feral in isolation from all humanity. We were not built to be reasonable. We were not built to be happy. Oh my god, I am not subscribed or anything, never had been but that was actually amazing I really want to see more of the violin🙏
I think this represents that lovers will seem to love you more then anything, but when push comes to shove, will leave you in the dirt
The cat and mice: The cat and mice were happy and singing until the boat started sinking. Then, in a nervous state, the cat ate up the mice. Originally, I thought this was about people that will eat to hide their stress, but looking at it more, I realized that it's about some people who try to help, but end up hurting others instead
The captain: My favorite character, he sang his song and cheered everyone up. He stayed on the ship when others didn't. I think this represents that true friends will stick with you. I'll go more into detail with my next one
The boat: This boat had no control over anything. They sank down, all because of the bird. I think this represents people who don't do well with pressure. But with true friends, like the caption, he stayed with the boat, still singing his song, trying to bring joy
The bird: Ah yes, the one who ended countless lives for no reason. I think the bird represents problems, and the people are how others react to these problems.
agree
So thoughtful
well, even if your captain theory is right, a captain always goes down with his ship.
I feel like the bird is kinda like a liability
I think the cat and mice represent when people don’t heed warnings and gut feelings, because the present is good. For example, if you know the nature of a person or in the past they have been mean, tend to gossip, or cheat, but you choose stay with them because they are nice right then. That is putting yourself in a dangerous situation. So I guess you could take it as choose you’re friends carefully or be careful what kind of environments you put yourself in.
It's really sad the fact that the captain didn't care about dying

Yeah
Disasters actually mostly bring out the best of us, for example, during 9/11 people were moving down the stories calmly allowing firefighters to pass despite imminent death. During Hurricane Katrina there were a lot of reports of violence. But after the journalists left all of those reports were found to be fiction and there had been much less violence. Sure there’s looting but looters were actively trying to help survivors sharing sometimes working with the police. During London bombings people would also help out each other from rubble.
