  • Full title reads: "THE DERBY 1934."
    Epsom, Surrey.
    Pan across the stands and racecourse - masses of people. Pan across endless lines of food and drink stands all crowded with people. People, cars and coaches are seen everywhere - and this is 3 hours before the race. Many people with umbrellas - it started to rain.
    King George V and Queen Mary arriving to the racecourse. Queen gets out of a car and shakes hands with some men. King follows her. Lord Harewood and Princess Royal are seen in crowd. Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother) moving through the crowd at arrival.
    Pan across packed stands - it looks as if rain has stopped. People are seen betting at the bookies. The horses parading before the race. Pan across packed stands showing Royal box.
    Start of the race - tapes are up and horses are off. Various shots of the race and people watching it. Finish of the race - Windsor Lad wins the race. Maharajah of Rajpipla shaking hands with some people and walks towards his horse. Maharajah and several people around Windsor Lad, jockey still on horse.

    The Epsom Derby 1934 won by Windsor Lad, owned by my grandfather Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla. Trained by Marcus Marsh and ridden by Charlie Smirke.

      Brilliant old 'Newsreel', which I was brought to by researching your grandfather's story, as a way to verifying part of my own Great-grandfather's story, about meeting your Grandfather on a voyage in 1922!
