I was raised in Mexico City and remember when Alejandro was a popular radio host at WFM, 96.9, a hip station that played rock hits (Depeche Mode, etc), in the late 80s/early 90s. He was a storyteller even then and would come up with these whimsical radio plays full of sound effects. A popular one that comes to mind is El Pavo Asesino (The Killer Turkey), aired one holiday season. It was basically a hilarious slasher Christmas story about a pissed off turkey killing people left and right - and it proved so popular that it had sequels every year at Christmas. Stories aside, he was also beloved as an engaging personality, but I would've never imagined he might become one of the world's foremost film directors, especially in largely dramatic fare.
This is one of the best moderators these THR roundtables have had. Hats off to her! 👏🏼

I understand why there was mixed reception towards Bardo, but it was honestly one of my favorite films of the year.
Mine too. So underrated.
Yeah, it grew on me as it went along.

I knew Sarah Polley looked familiar. She was the lead actress in Zack Snyders Dawn of the Dead 2004, a great film. Incredible journey for her to the directors chair, and to be able to direct so many amazing actresses. Kudos👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She’s been directing for 20 years!! You should check out her earlier films Away From Her and Stories We Tell they’re awesome

I loved this selection, but also a part of me really wanted Park Chaan-Wook, Damien Chazelle, Cameron, Spielberg, Del Toro and Iñarritu in a roundtable, would’ve been prettu epic. At least Park Chaan-Wook since he’s one of my favorite directors ever.

I'd love to see a Roundtable of animation Directors for film and TV. After doing Primal Genndy Tartakovsky should be among the Greats. Animation is FILM.

As an actor and director, so much of this was so informative. I love how they spoke about meeting with their actors and learning more from them in meetings than in auditions. Love their advice on directors making their first feature film. Totally going to take all that advice.
Looking at their water glasses Alejandro is the only one here that knows it's important to stay hydrated.

The scene Gina is referencing around 48:00 made me weep. Amazing it was done by take 3.
I'd actually thought it was by take 1 because the young actress really cries like with tears rolling down, what is something extremely rare to happen in a movie. So I thought that noway she would be able to cry again in more than one take at the same day
Gina Prince-Bythewood is noticeably a sensitive and compassionate film director.
You easily could have squeezed Guillermo Del Toro, Martin McDonagh or James Cameron in here, maybe even the Daniels
They have these rounds based on the theme of the films.

I remember after watching Twister my sons thought Todd Field was Robert Patrick (People forget he was an actor) I thought Maverick was the best film i saw this yr. and i get it Tom Cruise gets the credit , but Joseph Kosinski deserves a ton of credit for creating something new and keeping it familiar ..I think the Oscars aren't nearly as important as it was 20 plus yrs ago , but he deserved at least a director nomination

Hearing a lot of these conversations I'm always wondering , how is it there exec who don't want to make a movie like a Birdman!!!
It hadn't been done before. Execs aren't creatives-- they're investors, not visionaries. They aren't known for their willingness to take risks on projects that are purely creative vision. Even another well-respected filmmaker said it shouldn't be done the way Alejandro envisioned.
Is there any chance we can get the 'final cut' version of this roundtable without any kind of editing? I miss when this roundtables were posted in its entire duration time.
When is cinematographers round table releasing?

why are The Daniels missing from all these panels? I've not seen the actors or directors of "Everything Everywhere All at Once" anywhere and it's saddening.
Daniel Kwan was on the Writer’s Roundtable last month and Michelle Yeoh was on a recent Actresses Roundtable; I highly recommend both! 👍 I agree that they should be more represented and their creativity shared on a wider basis.

Who made the horrendous creative decision to motion track their names and films to the directors in the intro? It's not poorly done, but why do it with so much text and movement?
Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun Director) should cosplay as The Joker and break the internet.
As a follow-up series, have them discuss why and how specific movies of the past were important touchstones with their own work.
For "directors" this group is really soft spoken.
Directors aren't typically loud. They're observant and direct the people in front of them

I really hope THR was able to provide screeners or theatrical viewings of all their movies to each other. I think these interviews work best IF all the directors have seen each other's films that they are there to promote/discuss. As a fan I've only seen Top Gun Maverick and Tar out of these directors current work they are promoting.

If you think about it, it makes sense why he wouldn’t want to answer a bunch of personal questions about his life given the the context of the film
