Loved this. I remember after Monsters U thinking "wait... his dream didn't come true but he found joy and fulfillment in something else. Woah..." and the same with the barber in Soul. He didn't get his dream, but he loves life as a hairdresser. Great video.
It's stuff like this is one reason why I don't have the heart to watch Soul Like it's showing me a what if, where I somehow achieved my dream and I still feel... Empty, purposeless, and so on...
Soul was just a complete surprise I definitely did not expect that kind of a plot development but it was an excellent subversion. The idea of just enjoying life as it comes felt real. As a 20 something I always feel pressured about not having met certain expectations like "oh shouldn't you be doing this, having a house or something" and a lot of these goal/dream oriented movies kinda reinforce that idea and of course chasing and achieving dreams are great but Soul was one of the few times where I felt like a film or work of art was specifically speaking to me saying "it's okay, slowdown and just enjoy what you have right now, remember the memories that have built you up, torn you down, just enjoy existing" and that to me was more powerful than anything
It’s so crazy my whole life I was told , “believe in your self, put the work in… and your dreams come true” and I am a first hander to say that was a bold face lie .. I spent countless years thousands of dollers on a dream and it never came true to the point I had given up now I’m so completely lost in life and contemplating suicide… and also traumatized idk if I want to dedicate time towards anything in my life any more because I might not succeed in that as well and wasted my whole existence
Every time I remember the dreams I didn't achieve, I'm glad for my Italian upbringing that taught me to cherish the moment and be content with what is. Coraggio ❤
Thanks for this video :-) I just let go of a dream the other day, a really strong one, that I realized maybe just isn't meant to be. It's sad to let it go, and it's hard not to blame others who I felt had let me down along the way, but I also have found that I feel softer now. Like maybe I don't need to have a "purpose", and maybe it's okay to give up sometimes. Maybe trying to force a dream that you're not fully feeling anymore is just squashing it further, whereas maybe just taking the pressure off and allowing it to just be a hobby would make it enjoyable again. We can't all have our dreams come true, we can't all be extraordinary, and it's been hard for me to realize that maybe I'm just not meant to be extraordinary, but also maybe that's okay. The movie Soul spoke to me so much when I saw it, because I relate so much to 22 in that I just like really small things, and have never had some all-encompassing passion other than the one I'm stepping back from now (which I only found a few years ago). Society doesn't like that so much, everyone wants you to have a big career, or at least a big dream, but I look at other animals and wonder if that's even natural? Maybe it's okay to just live, maybe it's okay to just be, maybe we don't need to be great to be worth something, maybe just existing is enough...
Thanks for the shoutout to Monsters U. It kinda gets lumped in with the “Pixar Sequel” bunch and it often gets ignored but I think it’s highly underrated for its mature story
WOW! Is that what Soul is about? (I haven't seen it yet) That is absolutely incredible and apt. It's something I keep trying to impress upon my fast brain that's always dreaming about the future or ruminating on the past, seeking new adventures and new perfections, and then forgetting that right now I have what I dreamed about for so long, and that all I wanted to do back then was just sit in the moment I'm experiencing now. It's tough to do and keep in mind for me sometimes, but how amazing to have an illustrated reminder for this very same concept!

Monsters U is a much better film than people say it is, and I think that's because it's lesson is a very mature one. I actually did a speaking engagement about this topic last year and used the film and Pixar as a whole for that talk. Glad to see you give it some love. It's not Pixar's best, but I'll stand by that film!

And I'm gifted in drawing & painting! But it actually turned out that I HAVE a gift in being SUPER motivated with powerful positive words!!😊❤️ So yes, we DON'T always get what we want in life! But, it's what our “soul” gave us to do in our life!😌
Some ppl aren’t built to enjoy the little things in life … the little things don’t necessarily satisfy everyone …. Just like big dreams don’t satisfy everyone … it really depends on you
1:29 Lol can't blame Disney for inventing love at first sight, though it might be some of the first aggressively marketed to kids. I saw that mentioned in Don Quixote. X,D And I'm sure many more. The "woman-so-beautiful-you-have-stolen-my-heart" is so old and so used I can't think of a culture I haven't read something with that idea in it!
The other thing worth acknowledging is that as we grow up the dreams we had are told to us to be childish and naive. It’s hard to achieve your dreams when everyone tells you they weren’t worth having in the first place. True, dreams are not everything. You make great points here and I agree with ALL of them. But the whole “you can’t crush a soul. That’s what life on earth is for” thing? The widespread belief that those who achieve their dreams (ESPECIALLY in the entertainment industry, oof) are EXCEPTIONS rather than a kind of Proof of Concept is, in itself, an extremely damaging concept. We are expected to give up on the things we love to be “realistic”. Not enough people question WHY dreams seem foolish to have, and say “maybe things could change”, and “maybe we could live in a society where we don’t have to put our heads down and pretend things don’t bother us.” I’m not naive, I understand how hard it would be to do that. But the more people believe it can happen and work towards it, the more possible it becomes. Instead, in about middle school we begin to get reinforced with the idea that life just kinda sucks and there’s nothing we can do about it, and that anyone who can do something about it is an exception and we shouldn’t try to follow in their footsteps. So no, dreaming without living isn’t good. But being taught that dreams aren’t worth having because the world is cruel and you’re powerless to change that isn’t a great lesson either. We must find a balance. (Side note: The original Monsters Inc actually taught us that things CAN be changed for the better and what’s more that they SHOULD be. Mike may canonically may have wanted nothing more than to be a scarer since childhood now, but remember that when the system was changed towards a world that valued individuals over profit Mike got his chance to be the one going into the doors). Just saying, Monsters University was Pixar owned by Disney, a company that preferred the Status Quo-the original when it was purely Pixar sans Disney influence was more interested in challenging what is widely accepted as the only way to succeed.
I think telling stories of dreams come true is more acceptable because they help us dream. And as Veritasium said in his video "Is Success Luck or Hard Work" the advice is paradoxical "You must believe you are in complete control of your destiny, but secondly that you have to know that that's not true for you or anyone else and that luck plays a huge role in it." An excellent video on an excellent movie! I do feel like in some ways the movie bit off more it could chew - it seemed to skim over things like the details of souls before earth and the fine line between being 'in the zone' and being a lost soul, but it still did a great job for what it did!
Everyone on the comment section, I pray that your dreams will come true, but make sure to appreciate your life the way it is right now. Doing that will make your life truly fulfilled. God put you in this 🌍 for a reason, so be thankful for your life, regardless of how big or small it is. Soul is genius, rarely do I come across such a meaningful life lesson in a film.
Seems to me some portion of people have net negative lives and probably would have been better off never having been born. There is a ton of suffering in life at least for most - there are good things too, but whether or not those good things make enduring the bad worth it I’m not sure - for some the answer is probably no. If it were up to me I would legalize physician assisted painless suicide for the people who do conclude that it’s not worth it to press on/their ratio of bad to good or the severity of the bad is too great. Acquaintance of mine shot himself and lived, just as a vegetable - that’s even worse and could be avoided if we legalized the painless medical way out. Not everyone wants to be a wage slave and work their life away as a peon at some job they hate never having money pretending to be something they’re not only to end up shitting their pants in some nursing home waiting to die and for what? Don’t even get me started on how terrible aging is - death itself is usually very painful (heart attacks and cancer hurt a lot for example). Many people don’t have the lives they dream about having where they’re important and successful and finically stable and the people they want to love and admire them actually do and they dont suffer from medical conditions /don’t have to work a job they hate (etc). If I knew what my life would be and got to choose whether or not to be born, I’d just as well rather stay in the void to be honest. Good things exist - hobbies, delicious food, relationships if you’re fortunate, but the ratio and severity of the bad is often too great for those to make up for seems to me. I think it’s also relevant if people had the means to change their circumstances they obviously would, they don’t because they can’t or because the risk is too high and would probably lead to a worse life for example.
This is a realistic, but also extremely negative approach. While I very much agree with the fact that life is simply not fair, children who have done nothing wrong are born in such traumatizing and horrible situations completely out of their control, and would realistically be better off not existing in this world. However, when you see the children living through these situations, you find one common thread in all of their thinking and that is their hope. This hope typically is born out of dualistic religions with a reward system that promises justice and fairness. I am not trying to convert or encourage you into anything, hence the vagueness in the mention of religion, I am just pointing out that it is the common method humans have been using to "put up" with injustice. This is the easiest- and arguably the best- way for humans to cope with the unfairness found in everything in this universe (literally in everything), hence the spread of dualistic religions through the years. So I'm again not calling you to any specific religion but just letting you know that believing that there is a divine force that will one day ensure justice with no mistakes might help ease the understandable frustration you're feeling.
He kept dreaming about been a star, superstar but he didnt get far he sure found out the hard way that dreams dont always come true. -Gladys Knight Midnight Train To Georgia!!! I did a painting called follow your dreams... I feel like shit my lady friend left before I got home 😡😡😡😡😈😈😈😈
Hm, my dream is to find connection with others, to find the place I belong. Your telling me it is okay not to find that? My wish has nothing to do with me. Your suggesting helping others, that are unwilling to help me. Just no.
That's very true. Just because you didn't achieve your dreams.... doesn't means you are a loser. Sometimes... it could be bad interpretation or some sort of dream that doesn't exist in the real world. For ex: kids wants to meet a real Easter bunny making eggs. In reality, Easter bunny is not real just only kid's imagination while staring a man dressed as the Easter bunny. Another Example: Having the perfect woman, or the woman of your dreams with short hair, blue eyes, good looking structure face and who can speak Italian or has 100% Italian Blood. in reality... the perfect woman or the type of woman doesn't exit in real life. It is Fictional and often your own imagination. Dreams are not perfect neither, and sometimes it could be awful or annoying that some way. Dreams are not important but more like..... a recommendation to you to achieve your goals in this world and enjoy life. what it matters the most is happiness than success. Cuz the truth is... success is NOT always happiness. Better to listen to yourself, than those Celebrities or motivator speakers who always criticizes you for not achieving success. Often these greatest successful people or greatest billionaires are lonely people and wishes to commit suicide.... ALWAYS (Not Joking) So... is not your fault if you don't achieve it, you can try other alternative path or other goals if something doesn't worked out as you planned. Do something what makes you happy, not what the world tells you to do. This is YOUR life!.... NOT theirs! You are the ONLY one who has the control. Don't give up!

Incredible

Your voice is beautiful. If you want to sing, then sing. Practice will make you better and I'm sure you would be a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you 😢
Hm, my dream is to find connection with others, to find the place I belong. Your telling me it is okay not to find that? My wish has nothing to do with me. Your suggesting helping others, that are unwilling to help me. Just no.
Thank you for your videos
Thank you for watching!
Keep up the great work!

Dreams are not perfect neither,
and sometimes it could be awful or annoying that some way.
ALWAYS (Not Joking)
So... is not your fault if you don't achieve it, you can try other alternative path or other goals if something doesn't worked out as you planned. Do something what makes you happy, not what the world tells you to do.
This is YOUR life!.... NOT theirs!
You are the ONLY one who has the control.
Don't give up!
Such a good review
Thanks!
Amazing video ty
Glad you enjoyed it!
What do you think of the themes in Meet the Robinsons?
Great video!
Thanks!
This is what I had to learn when I failed epically twice in a career and had to walk away from it
Oof, sorry to hear that man
@@CenterRow thank you, man. Sacrificed years of college, internships and an apprenticeship to get it. Can’t begin to describe how soul crushing it was when I realized it wasn’t for me.
Lived my life like Joe in the movie, not being present in the moment and that’s when COVID hit and gave me time to think, reflect, and get out of the dark place I was in mentally.
Glad you made it out of that dark place!
💖
Always appreciate the heart!
Great video
Thanks!

Off topic but thoughts on Godzilla Vs Kong?
Sadly a tiny bit burnt out on the kaiju genre
@@CenterRow but there were only been 3 movies so far
Plus the Pacific Rim movies. Not a ton but it's just getting a little repetitive
@@CenterRow Kong Skull Island and Godzilla KOTM were good imo
It’s hard to not see the spoiler warning when the name of the video is a spoiler
Lol well he does achieve his dreams in the film so I don't feel it's a total spoiler

What do you think about TV show Lost?
Very good show with a slightly disappointing ending.
Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying
Monsters Uni is not worth the letters on the spoiler warning.
Didnt watch the other one.
I'm making up (somewhat) silly comments for the algo - thoughts aloud - if you're wondering
Lol thanks for the engagement boost
My dream is to meet cookie swirl c in Roblox I tried for a year and it didn’t happen.
