Cody Cepeda was unstoppable during BATB7. He didnt miss a single trick during the whole final. Cody had to win against Trent McClung, Shane O' Neill, Tom Asta and Sewa Kroetkov to reach this final.
Man I love Luans skateboarding as much as the next dude, but I still have gained mad respect for Cody here. Comes into this tournament as a Joe and just takes it all. Drops double flips left and right and has such a deep bag of tricks and doesnt choke at all in this final. I know he does not pop it as high as Luan (who does really lol), but its consistent and clean.
Watched this a few times over the years. The fact that Cody held court the whole match speaks volumes. But lets get real.. Cody wasn't no avg joe even back then. Dude has mad skills.
Crazy; not only did he blank Luan, he didnt even give him a turn, in the Finals. Crazy! Guess Cepeda knew that if Luan had a turn it was probably over. Cepeda GOATed for this.
What I love about this isn't just that the Joe won, or that luan demonstrates the pro level with his pop and steez, or that the sportsmanship and love is evident without ego/aggression, also that even tho Cody won without a letter you can't say he beat luan easy and the battle was boring. Luan threw down answers to hard tricks and showed he's a beast, but Cody just had the will of a legend in him that day. Like I'm a huge Luan fan, but it was just so right to see Cody win for the Joe's in spectacular fashion
I love how Juan like clicks his feet out then in when he’s setting up his feet. Not to mention how beautiful his tricks are but even the setup is nice 💯

To have a Pros vs Joes theme in itself was truly amazing, bringing all of these lesser known names to the surface, but Cody’s journey through this tournament on its own is the stuff of legends. Round 1 against Trent McClung, he finds himself at T before he even gets a chance to set the trick, but still finds a way to battle all the way back for the win. He goes on to take out Shane O’Neil and Tom Asta, two of the worlds most elite flat-ground skaters, and earns a spot in finals night. First game against Sewa; doesn’t miss a trick. Flawless win. Second game against Luan motherfucking Oliveira; Doesn’t. Miss. A. Trick. Absolutely flawless. This is a fairy tale. This isn’t supposed to happen in real life. Thank you Berrics for making this a reality

Half his foot was dragging on the pressure heel but they counted it. You can even see him joking about it in the background before the next trick.

This battle was great, seeing Cody win it but the rematch that happened the year after when Cody landed all those impossible tricks on defense against Luan and came back from T to beat him, making it to the finals for the second year in a row, that was the most epic.
