Here are a few very underrated guys out there that make some pretty good videos for improvement (will update the list): www.youtube.com/@OfficialLeaf1/videos www.youtube.com/@goosemonkey10/videos
I really liked this video, being a coach myself. It's sad to see how coaching's image got so damaged because of this scammy TH-camrs trying to make the most ammount of money possible. I mean, you can make money out of what you do but it has to be legit. Talking about spookluke... how can you expect that a guy who struggles to stay in GC can help you to be SSL? This is an advice for the average player who's looking to get coached: buy coaching from somebody with PROVEN results. Get into their Discords and ask the people that already bought from them if they were helpful before spending your money on a random guy with fancy editing. I hope this situation changes and people stop believing in these shady guys (but I doubt that).
Really appreciate this comment! I'm currently subbed to you and think your content is pretty damn useful and a breath of fresh air. I've felt kinda strongly about coaching schemes becoming get-rich-quick schemes nowadays and unfortunately people don't know any better. As you mentioned, if people simply checked a coach's background (which isn't difficult to do) then more and more scam artists would struggle for an audience. That being said, I hope more coaches like you get the traction your work deserves and keep making a positive impact on the more nuanced side of rl. After all, the work i see guys like you put in is very valuable for people ACTUALLY trying to understand the game on a deeper level. For example, I'm working with a coach who I feel I've gained a lot from (and so have many others). I really can't stress enough how beneficial it is for the game to have a strong coaching scene at the end of the day.
from what ive noticed in all fields of life not just rocket league, in order to be a good teacher you need to be both good at the set field AND good at teaching in general, rocket league is simply too small to have people with both assets AND have those people commit to teaching. and of course dont forget that while these people may exist, they now need a good set of skills in publicating themselves and a good knowledge to know how to attract a crowd and grow big to raise a community, looking at all these requirements, it really makes it seem almost impossible for someone like this to exist to the wider crowd... you made a good point in the video noting that most of the videos out there for improving at rocket league are targetting the widest audience possible and by doing so not being good enough to individually help a specific player... i would view it this way: most of the big coaches are first businessmen, second coaches, money is their goal and what simpler way to do so if not with nice thumbnails, using the same tips with different formatting, and trying to reach the widest possible audience. another big point good amount of "coaches" do is teaching players how to rank up instantly by changing their playstyle, and while these tactics could work for low ranked player they dont make the player better, they improve the rank, but that player did not become better, he simply changed his playstyle to a "winning" playstyle while in reality if a player wants to improve he needs an "improving" playstyle, which such playstyle needs to constantly change to fit the best improvement course for each player individually. this is something no general course or 1 hour course on fiverr can do very well. great video and great idea for talking about this topic
You know man. I might not be the greatest at advertising myself. But I’m proud of the coaching videos I’ve made. I’m easily up there with some of the best players in the world and I have some good teaching skills. We exist.
"good" Rocket league coaching boils down to 4 questions: Are you practicing your mechanics in freeplay? Always learn new mechanics, spend more time doing things you enjoy, but make sure you do it. Where are you looking? AND when you review your replays can you find somewhere better you should've been looking? (Vision determines your positioning, if you don't know a player is challenging how can you position for it or take a 50?) Are you watching higher level gameplay? If not, watch higher level players play the game and try to figure out where they are looking and why they are making the decisions they are making. Are you doing the 3 previously mentioned things while grinding the game? No? Then all of that is pointless! Not much a coach can help with there but point you in those 3-4 directions. They can fill in for SOME of the hours upon hours of replay review (of both yourself and higher level players) by attempting to TELL you what you could've and probably should've done (without showing you an example that your brain requires to see) and they can teach you about "common core" rocket league and with frequent sessions can mold you into a better player rotationally. But none of its required, a one off session does nothing for you 95+% of the time. Generally speaking if you have 1 session (with a good coach) and don't notice a change in your gameplay; that is your fault, technically. You already failed the first test of whether coaching will work for you. Most people I have coached are NEVER able to realize and understand the mistakes I describe to them and even fewer actually take my advice and do all 4 of the first 4 suggestions. Rocket League improvement REQUIRES an open mind, experimenting, and hours of grinding for pattern recognition missing one of these 3 factors will result in stagnation for MOST players. Which is why there are so many more kids in pro rocket league. Open-minded-experimenting is what kids do, if you can't transform your mind to that of a child then improvement is a lot harder.
Someone I would recommend is @AirChargedGaming for the basics and @TheGoldenLight11 for Diamond+ players looking for more advanced rotational ideas. He teaches you what the pros do in a harsh way but it can work at any rank if you do it right.
I think my biggest problem is that a lot of courses are simply very misleading, overpriced and oversaturated. To answer your question though, I'd prefer if guys like SpookLuke would be more technical in terms of the game sense side of things, rather than barely touching on things that are merely common sense as if it's revolutionary (rotate back post, don't dribble in front of net etc.) There are some people out there that do a much better job than Spook without a team behind him
The paid coaching stuff always gets to me, as a nerd who's spent too much time learning how to air roll occasionally I just enjoy sharing the things that I found to be helpful or just yapping about a more analytical side of RL this game only has so far left to go and id rather it go gracefully than through greed
What annoys me are people who watch a video and take the specific advice to heart--thinking it's the only way to play in every circumstance. Usually you find plat players that are like that, but I even catch them in high diamond once in a while. Learning to be fluid and reading just takes time and iterations. Your top rank pretty much is just reflecting the amount of time you have to play, adjusted a bit by how fast you can pick things up (intelligence). There are just no fast solutions to it. That's the hard truth of coaching. Coaching is there to help you find a problem you're blind to and helping you maximize the time you have to play by crunching data on where improvements are most impactful.
everyone in a rush nowadays. everything comes with time. Just sit and watch YT videos. Watch Streamers daily. That's all you have to do. All the coaching you'll need. FREE!!. Unless you're planning to go pro. OR YOU have a dedicated TEAM to play with. Just watch over time. You can't rush this game. You don't need $100 an hour advice for a FREE TO PLAY GAME!
Ah yeah i think i made a video on it a few months back, there's definitely quite few things i *didn't* mention about him (there's so much controversy on him it's hilarious)
My brother doesnt even play rocket league. But he says the best way for me to improve on the game right now is to just play matches. I am plat 2 but honestly I am at a gold 1 or 2 skill level. All these coaching yt videos that people like Spookluke are super misleading for lower level players. W video.
I agree in some points you make. Coaching youtube videos can help people who are struggling, but they can only do so much on their own. I have over 6000 hours in RL and am a GC2 player, and I will say one of the most helpful TH-camrs that I've ever seen is GoldenLight. He makes rotational videos and his videos have completely changed the way I play rocket league. At a certain point, however, you learn as much as you can (for the most part) from youtube videos, and you have to move on to actual private coaching sessions if you want to really get better.
I love your take on this and i apprecuate the end to what has been for years now, what i call... "Toxic positivity" surrounding RL and guide videos. We need to get away from the coddling of epic/psyonix and tell it like it is as creators. Enough with the optomismistic "yeah it sucks now, but there are plenty of things to be happy about, like this new cyberttruck, get one of your own and use my code #gfys mate". Its become Toxic . We need more creators like you that tell it like it is, which, the game is sht rn. Run on that. ❤
i dont get it just watch flakes and squishy road to ssl and then occasionally watch pros playing on yt. helps alot if u can read what and why theyre doing xyz move/decisions
I just want to be mechanical. That can be taught. Youll learn the rest on your own. Somone who has the mechanics you want to learn would more beneficial cause they can say you did this wrong or do this and it will work. The rest i could care less about. Overall your right and speak facts. I paused and read that page from spook luke. It does seem like he just wants the money off your time.

You think you could add me to that list 😄? I’ve worked really hard to make the best rl coaching advice out there.
Goosemonkey is fantastic.
Shoutout to goose!
Since 2020, I cant remember the last time spookluke wasn't in controversy lmaoooo
My favorite thing about SpookLuke is the way he speaks. In. One. Word. Sentences.
I read this in lukes intro voice and the words slapped be in the face in 3d as i read em
Anytime you hear the phrase: "Sign up now because there are only X spots left" - turn and walk away.
Those kinds are just out for your money.

@@TheRealStratz I loved the term of "scam artists"
Glad to know you don't consider me as another spookluke lmao 🤣

Yes
What kind of "tutorials" would you prefer people make or what sorts of educational content do you believe would have the best value?

this is real, I hope this video blows up

i think the best rl advice ive heard is just to play the game lol, and its true. the more you play the more you'll know what and what not to do
What annoys me are people who watch a video and take the specific advice to heart--thinking it's the only way to play in every circumstance. This game was so good. Haven’t played in a while now
Keep up this kind of content and your channel will blow up
Are you aware of SpookLukes 1k-2k coaching courses?
Ah yeah i think i made a video on it a few months back, there's definitely quite few things i *didn't* mention about him (there's so much controversy on him it's hilarious)

Just watched this video an cannot believe you only have 600 suns
i dont think you need a full paid coach until you high gc 2 if you want ssl or higher

Hello. I was here on time today. ❤❤❤
My guy👊
I’m a plat and was thinking of coaching but after watching this it really helped me relise that the advice they give is probably not worth 100 bucks
Nah dont flame apparentlyjack, he doesnt sell his coaching, quite literally does it for free, plus hes a pro, but yh spookluke sucks
Nah i agree with you he's got nice explanations, i think i just happened to scroll past one of his vids in that intro, nothing acc against the guy

"I can do flip resets in freeplay but I can't use it in game. Must be mechanical issue". My guy it's the opposite
coaching isnt bad but listening to low rank drones like u and spookluke is bad
what low iq does to a mf
Spookyluke is a scammer.
