    Big, bright sky and beautiful beach there in the beginning!
    So, Jethro, you want to be covered in the poo of all kinds of animals, break your leg in a remote place, beat yourself to death in a lay-by, and be eaten by Alan!
    Stop it, get some help!😂🤣
    I'm sorry you had to do this ride with a cold, but I'm glad to see that, despite illness, your sense of humour is perfectly intact!

    Well done you both. About the route...I couldn't agree more with what you said. My guess is that people in general (with all respect but mostly e bikers, race bikers and occasional weekend bikers" prefer the "safe" tarmac paths and roads. I definitely prefer as much off road as possible. It's like the saying " there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" In my humble biker opinion, to there's no such thing as bad off road paths, only bad or wrong choice of bikes😊 Anyway, keep on biking and sharing more adventures. You are much appreciated in Belgium and Germany. Give me a sign if you plan to bike over here, a Flandrien is always welcome 🚵‍♀️💪🍻

      We can agree on all of that.
      I see tarmac as a necessary evil to get you between off-road sections. Traffic has no place on any decent route though.
      Glad you are enjoying the channel. I hope to be getting 2024 content uploaded soon and will absolutely let you know if I ever head towards your neck of the woods.

      Sorry for not being my usual sparkly self. I honestly felt on death's door for most of this one and my remaining enthusiasm was somewhat sapped by the road riding.

    Jethro, I hope you're feeling better now! You sounded awful. Hopefully Alan didn't get sick too! The combination of your commentary and Alan's antics in the background make for great viewing! I really wish auto makers would allow some of the vehicles you guys get to have over there be over here too! I always see really cool looking little vans driving by you guys and I say to myself why can't we have that here?? I really don't know how you do all that rain! It's so much rain all the time!! Speaking of sheep pop, funny mushrooms grow in cow poo so thinking maybe sheep poo too!!😁🤣. Maybe don't run over the sheep poo before you inspect it.😁.

    Sometimes you do wonder if the people who design these routes actually cycle themselves. It seems a fair few of them are designed to drag you into the towns in an attempt to get you to part with the hard-earned. Nice series nonetheless and at least Alan escaped the dreaded lurgy. All the best to you both for 2024. Maybe you could do a video letting us know your plans to whet the viewers' appetite?

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they are probably aimed at getting people out to try multi-day cycling. Giving a name to an easy route that passes through some towns might seem less scary to someone new to the passtime.
      Also, I always have to remind myself that a lot of people really don't seem to mind cycling with traffic so perhaps I'm just being overly picky?

    As resident of East Kent I had been considering doing this and had been playing around with the route in Komoot but I think your videos have dissuaded me that it's worthwhile. There is a ~50-mile loop of the eastern end of the riders' route of the North Downs Way that could perhaps form part of a more agreeable ride that bypasses Ashford and Thanet.

      People always say this about these cyclinguk routes. I think they should offer the routes to nearby cycling clubs to see if they can come up with something better before they publish them. It kind of puts me off riding them.

      @JethroJessop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are in the area then there are some nice sections but it isn't special. I don't know the area so am not sure if there are ways it could be improved. I'd be interested to see any ideas you come up wth

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see what cyclinguk are trying to do - set up routes all over the country so that there is something in each region. It's a good goal and will undoubtedly help get people out cycling but the routes often feel a bit rushed to me, as though they are created to fulfill a milestone rather than provide a really great ride experience.
      Just my opinion though

    • @Bobario1
      @Bobario1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JethroJessop Yeah sometimes it seems they just send someone out there (normally Guy Kesteven?) with a theme in mind i.e. the Cantii, King Alfred, the Rebellion etc and they just string together a route. I'm planning on doing King Alfred's way but I've watched a lot of videos where people say there are parts where the route doesn't really make sense. Plus most of them are dahn sarf and would be a long drive to get to. I still think they are a great resource and encourage more people to get out there in the wonderful English countryside.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bobario1 i agree, both in your assumption on route planning and that they are a great organisation with a very worthwhile goal.
      I actually really enjoyed the KAW but i did it in great weather and a while ago now. Maybe my preferences have changed since then?
      There is a value in creating named routes as they really do encourage people to ride them but in this age of aerial photography and digital maps anyone can put a route together in a few hours that will be "ok".
      Putting together a really good Rute that benefits from local knowledge and multiple test rides is a real undertaking and probably just too time consuming to do often

    Interesting view. I've done it twice now, but both times clockwise, perhaps that makes a difference? Also i did it both times in hot summer weather and was in and out of the sea all day. The first time was late sunmer after some other, more adventurous, trips and it was a nice rest. Second time i took Mrs Smith and did much the same, but B&B instead of camping. I agree there's little jeopardy and the Rye-Ashford section is tedious, perhaps better clockwise with a likely tailwind? Look forward to the next one!

    • @JethroJessop

      Being able to jump in the sea at a few points would have added a lot to the experience for sure. Though I wasn't really feeling up to cycling let alone swimming 😉
      I guess doing it the other way round might have helped a few stretches but it wouldn't have reduced the tarmac miles.
