Why do they whisper when conferring?
They don’t want to give clues to the other team in case they get the answer wrong and the other team gets to answer.

It weirdly seemed to be convention for a while; there’s no benefit to it. In recent seasons, teams have seemed to wise up to this fact and confer much more audibly, which also helps us at home hear what they’re saying
