Don't be lame for leaving such comments. ^ if you think he didn't understand the song, then explain him rather than just leaving "I think he didn't understand the song"... So now what? He even said that in the end that explain for why you think what you think rather than simply say a "no, you don't understand". It leaves negativity.

He surely cried, but he will never admit. Men do not admit that they cry.
Remember, how Amir was ridiculed for crying on Satyamev Jayate. Memes were circulating on the internet.

Jaby does understand songs. But I think the real beauty or essence is lost if you dub it. This holds true for any language.

I think the reason why Indian movies are dramatic and more about emotion than maybe films elsewhere which are direct to the point is because Indians are generally people who react to something which moves them or makes them feel a particular emotion. And since Indians are so used to songs in movies, songs become of the most important mediums of communicating that emotion. That is the reason some of the biggest hits in Indian cinema are those films which had great music and that music connected with that audience. Similarly, Taare Zameen Par would not have had the same impact without its music at every crucial point in the film. There is no secret that filmmakers in India know that music and emotional connect is necessary to make films work in India,
Anyway, glad that you finally watch this movie Jaby and a good review again. Great to have your thoughts. Cheers!

aditya sen......... Shut Up! The songs from TZP are quiet catchy, emotional, motivational as well as necessity of the movie. Stop criticizing the movie for having music, Music makes every movies more emotional and soulful. Oh maybe you don't have capability to get into it.

In Asia, poor and middle class parents are afraid of their kids not getting good job and remuneration. Because of scarcity of good job, they feel that if their children don't do well in education, they may not get a good job. It's difficult compared with a rich western country like United States of America. Being poor is bad, but being poor in a poor country is horrible. They don't want that horrible life for their children and so they want their children to work hard to get a good job.

Aamir has given Hindi cinema a treasure trove in the form of Taare Zameen Par, Lagaan, Dil Chaahta Hain, Rang De Basanti, 3 idiots, Dhobi Ghat, Talaash, PK, Dangal, Sarfarosh, Rangeela, 1947 Earth, et al. SRK's acting economy is based only on 3 movies: Swades, Chak De India and My Name is Khan. Those are his only saving graces in an otherwise shitty career. About Salman...well, the less said the better.

    • @mehulgupta3793
      @mehulgupta3793 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Dark Dimension well...it's true...the less said the better...coz the list is never ending.....Maine Pyaar Kiya , Andaaz Apna Apna , Bajrangi Bhaijaan , Sultan.....just to name a few of his gems

    • @ironcrown144
      @ironcrown144 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Mehul Gupta Bro, Salman's started experimenting only now. Most of his career comprises of trash. Aamir was the only one who was true to his craft right from the start with only a few hiccups here and there. SRK and Salman are exact contradictions to that. Their career is adorned with only a few gems while most of it is bilge.

interesting way of looking at this movie. I guess as an Indian I expected to be taken through the movie simply with the emotional element in mind.
However, I do remember my first reaction after I saw the film... TEACHERS ARENT USUALLY LIKE THAT... education is something that's close to my heart... and sadly school teachers..esp primary/secondary level teachers just do the job because they couldn't do anything else. I agree that not all teachers are like that but I .ade a short film on this called 'to be or not to be a primary school teacher' which explored the ideas of why youth doesn't opt for a teaching job...
the answers were predictable and disheartening be at the same time
    no money
    less respect
no growth because the system doesn't let you.
unfortunately all the good teachers either opt for graduate level teaching, become editors/content writers or teach in private education centres.
we don't focus on the lil ones in our society inside our public schools...and we chose to dump those people who teach as a last resort on these kids....how will this lead our country into having a strong future..?
    ok m blabbering...but jaby..u did want details....😄
I hope this was a coherent comment..I'd love everyone's views on this....
    cheers

I have attended schools in both India and USA and I'll say that the situation that you described in this post is very similar in both countries. Teachers are not paid enough or respected enough in their profession. It's sad. I feel that teachers should be as respected as doctors bc teachers create our future generations. When I was a little kid, I used to have so much respect for teachers and used to think they were the smartest people, and then as I got older, I realized the reality of how little teachers salaries are and how the smartest people are never inclined to become teachers. Thank god for programs like Teach For America and Teach For India - they need more and more programs like that.

And yes, most of our asian parents want their kids to join masses i.e. Engineering, medical, law etc. and treat arts just as an extra-curricular activity because eventually they believe that arts won't give them money to live a luxurious life. Changing this mindset is very important. Broadning the horizon is very important.

jaby, i think you are not meant to review movies like these coz you won't understand the actually message it is trying to give. Sure you understood the essence of it but as you cannot relate to the movie as we asians can, you cannot understand this.
This movie, 3 idiots etc were such a huge hit because it is the issue with hundreds of millions of people here. Your review was kind of abstract. Maybe its because your psychology is a bit different than us because you have not experienced the competition faced by millions of children here.
Just an eg. IIT JEE is an engineering entrance exam written by around 1.5 million candidates out of which only 1000-2000 seats are available in IIT. And every parent wants to put their child in IIT from the moment he enters 7th grade. So the child keeps on attending classed from 7th grade for 5-6 years. Now imagine the pressure in the kid's mind. And 1.5 million children with this attitude gives the exam. Its more than just hard work now. Similarly I can name you 10's of other exams with competition even worse. You would have understood the movie better of you faced these problems.
    Anyway, nice try. Bubbye

Hi Jaby, I felt this movie was more about bringing people's attention to problems like dislexiya or asperges or autism(whatever may you call). To create an awareness in the general public because these are still very new for the people in India and mostly go ignored, because people are worried that their kids will get tagged as 'mentally ill' and the education structure is so rigid that it is impossible to make accommodations for them when the parents themselves are not ready to accept and face the challenges!!

Jaby...you are absolutely right about Aamir Khan's movies..he always tries to do something for the society through movies or medias...that's why he seldom rejects many movies without social-issues and chooses 1 in every 3 years...peace mate. :)

Hey Jaby, This movie came at a time when the social media wasn't as evolved as it is today. People in India weren't as learned about learning disabilities as they are today. This movie opened a lot of eyes and ears in the Indian society. It made us more aware. More open to this issue. Sometimes showing a story about a real life situation is better than educating people with a mere set of facts. This movie put it straight out in a very good way. It also was a slap on the face of the indian education system. I think we have a long way to go when it comes to our education system and our understanding of mental illnesses and learning disabilities and this movie was just a first step in that direction.

Hey, Hi!! There are certain films which I would like you to watch with an Indian glass, such as Sultan, and think while watching certain parts that its an Indian thing, lets ignore it. But for a film like Taare Zameen Par(which is very close to my heart, it is one of the few films which I cried while watching) I wanted a foreigner's view such as you, which might be american or italian or asian or whatever, but For this film I wanted your view and perspective. If you felt it was BORING, I wanted you to say that "IT WAS BORING". I can understand that some people might think that it was over-stretched but for me it was perfectly timed movie. For me, the characters when compared to the begun of the movie, were at a different position mentally by the end of the movie. All major characters had a solid arc in it. All characters had a journey in it. Some people find such films yawn fest, then say it directly that you didnt liked it! I didnt liked American Psycho, so be it. Maybe there was some cultural naunce that I missed.
Another thing:- I would have liked you to talk more around the film and the scenes and the technical aspect, such as screenplay, backgroound score, etc, The review was very abstract!!! but then again, maybe it was abstract because you didnt liked the movie,
And thank you, that you watched with Achara. I somehow knew you wouldnt like the movie, but I thought Achara might like it!

Arts in India is not a problem to opt as a career it's because of family responsibilities or income Problems only they are helpless, So they mostly opt for Branches in Arts like Law, Architecture, Interior Designing, Teaching Courses etc are amongst the prominent choices & has higher chances of getting a good job in India, other wise people who are Financially capable mostly go for arts, As arts doesn't gives a guaranteed Job & a certain indication that you have safe & stable career throughout your life which becomes necessary at certain point for a middle class family student after graduation, Although (High Class/Rich) find it easy to explore & they have a backup plan (Family Buisness) if arts doesn't work out well......
This is a majority case in India then to it completely depends from Persons to Persons Creativity, ability, strengths & mindset that they got achieve a very job or more success by doing Arts✌️

the movie keeping on lingering was problem to many others as well. the movie was in imdb top 250 and people from west would come to message board of imdb and complain how it was too long, melodramatic and kept on lingering on the same point. so definitely adjusting to the nature of movies made in india is needed when viewing a movie like this.
considering all that 2 hrs 45 minutes is still long for this movie and it could have made the same point in under 2 hrs

It's a good book but to me it felt like I was reading a slightly different version of this film because it was similar to it on so many levels. I guess it's coming out this year, so you should definitely check it out. 💁🏻

Hi Jaby, I am a consistent follower of your channel. For the first time I am commenting on your video. This movie is a gem. Yes it's slow paced, because they want us to feel every emotion of the characters. And songs are so true to every situation they are put in the movie. When this movie came in India, it was critically and commercially accepted with warmth. At that time no body knew this kind of movie could make huge business. But it did due to it's universal theme. And I think everyone goes through this phase the way lead child character goes in this movie. That's why it connected to large audience. Imagine huge star like Aamir Khan in India makes a movie where he is playing a secondary character and the main lead is a debutant kid. Hats off to him. But it had its share of controversy. Anmol Gupte the creative mind of this movie didn't get that much credit. It was his idea. Nevertheless watch his another masterpiece Stanley ka Dubba i.e Stanely's tiffin. You will love it. It's on similar lines but with a twist in the end.

On the topic of Asian parents and artistic careers for their children, I think it's very easy to see the linear progression of a job in medicine, engineering and the like because it is basically performing what is rote and has been taught, with knowledge being bestowed on the subject, for many years. Meanwhile, art, be it in musical, cinematic or visual realms, depends heavily on individual skill, originality and innovation - it is the unknown and therefore deemed as unimportant by society. Yet, without it (either through its creation or enjoyment), every life would be devoid or passion and pretty much sterile. So, basically, damn anyone who tells you not to pursue an artistic career if you're confident in your skills and have love for your medium.

As an Indian kid who has taken up Humanities or "Arts" as many people call it I would like to add to the discussion about giving importance towards arts. I feel like Jaby didn't really get what Achara was trying to say. It's not really about appreciating art or the fact that parents don't want their children to have to struggle which is what the case is in USA. Unfortunately in Indian society it's more about maintaining the status quo. I have seen from personal experience and from that of my fellow Humanities students that even if you do really well in your selected career or stream people still kind of don't appreciate you and your success. Though the times are changing in India unfortunately most of the population still believes that only people who are not intelligent or have low IQs take up arts even if they are successful. people tend to alienate you and make fun of you if they find out you are an "arts" student. I have heard comments like "Oh did she not get into science?" "were her marks that bad" "you are planning on just chilling and then getting married after getting a basic degree." "Oh you don't know about so and so theory wow you're so dumb." It's not about the struggle of doing well in this field it's about certain orthodox ideologies about success and education in our society.

What I feel is that as a species, the human race is in the process of evolution where we don't really feel that much in our everyday life but we still have those feelings and emotions inside of us which is what the Indian movies emphasize on. I would not completely categorize it to Bollywood movies though however they sure are more in number but if you look at American movies like Tree of life and Reader and Hackshaw Ridge(thats out of the genre but popped into my mind anyway) or not to mention some of the work of Hitchcock or Michael Haneke. They too have the same MO kind of. Where you have a very small story or less of a plot and emphasizing more on the depth of the scene, the emotion portrayed and conveyed in the process and showcasing the acting skills of course. So basically what I'm trying to tell here is as an audience I enjoy being able to feel those emotions to feel sad, feel inspired, feel driven even if with the help of a movie.

your reviews are really good. Genuine. And I like the editing work and movie clippings. Taare zameen par is very relatable to us, be it the way the parents behave, the schools, the discipline and the protaganist's feelings. In India, parents are generally conservative and want tgeir child to become a degree holder, doctor, engineer. Achara put it correctly that though people enjoy art, they dont value it or think art as a their career choice. The society is changing rapidly though. Thankyou for reviewing Jaby!

    Honest review.
You're right that Indian films do focus a lot upon the emotions especially in films concerning kids.
I absolutely loved this film for highlighting the issue of dyslexia in India which isn't as apparent or if it is it isn't given the due attention it deserves in mainstream schools.
Being from the UK at first I couldn't fathom what the big deal was as schools here are more aware of dyslexia and work to accommodate kids with it.
I appreciated how Aamir Khan took a back seat in this film and allowed the kid to shine.
