- Dianna Cowern, known to millions of TH-cam viewers as Physics Girl ( / physicswoman , shares why she is passionate about physics and how she turned that passion into a career as a science communicator on TH-cam. Dianna is a science communicator and educator who received her BS in physics from MIT before researching low-metallicity stars at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Dianna pursued her career in STEM outreach at the Reuben H Fleet Science Center and as a physics outreach coordinator at UCSD. Her work on Physics Girl has been featured on the Huffington Post, Slate Magazine, Popular Science, and Scientific American blogs.
She is a national treasure. She brings physics to the layperson and is dedicated to encouraging girls and young women to enter the field. We will never advance as quickly as we might if half the population feels estranged from asking the most important and basic questions about the world around us. What a great asset she is!
She is a very bright & optimistic person. You'd be very lucky if you had someone like that in your life. Thank you for everything you do, Dianna!

Mr. Faraday simply asked, "Of what use is a newborn baby?"
Considering all the uses to which we have put electricity to, I think that really sums things up.

Teachers are soooo important. For instance "don't put your hand on the hotplate" I learned the hard way. Keep it up Dianna!
My Chemistry teacher "disabled" the "Hot!" flag on his hotplate. Since its definition of "hot" was "your skin will stick to this," he permanently glued the Hot flag in the up position. 'Treat this like it's ALWAYS hot!" was his advice. Nobody got burned by his hotplate.

Making science make sense to lay people is HUGE and has the opportunity to forward the future of science as a whole. The more curious you make the masses about science the more impetuous you give the government to fund future science. Pretty much all the advances we love and take for granted come science someone did that we the lay folks have little to no understanding of. We desperately need folks like Neil Degrasse Tyson, and you to make science feel important to all of us.

In high school I avoided physics because I thought it would be hard. It wasn't until my last year did I take physics, and within days I found I made a mistake, I LOVED IT and wanted more, wished I had stared way earlier.

I have a general question along the science topic of "heat and thermodynamics". How do you view these topics from a Chemistry point of view, (specifically the course "Physical Chemistry", a physics point of view, (specifically the course "Thermal Physics") and an Engineering point of view (specifically the course Thermodynamics). Anyone can answer and feel free to add on to someone else's.
