Peter's fate broke my heart. I am a nurse and I have seen so many young lives taken by infections. That is really difficult, also for the professionals. Hope his family can grieve him peacefully. All my thoughts to them.
@@rubytuesday1316 I don't know where they presented you the butterflies but Kosairs Children's hospital told me from the moment we arrived exactly what was happening and what could happen. They weren't doom & gloom but we're honest. They told me my 4 mo old grandson might not make it & if he did, he could be paralyzed, brain damaged, blind and/or have shaken baby syndrome. That grandson truned 20 last month, is extremely smart and has been a blessing. I hated that he couldn't play contact sports because of how badly his femur was broken but all healed well.
I always wonder, what if they dont pull the plug off, and let ppl live with the machine. Maybe things will change. Maybe the technology we have is not telling 100 percent truth and the doctors are saying that its done and they cant do anything else is wrong.

His organs are failing, they cannot provide him with enough blood oxygenation and blood pressure. With the blood pressure and blood oxygen too low, the organs start to die, as they no longer have enough perfused oxygen... So you could but he would just get worse, requiring even more intervention as his liver, kidneys shut down, all his other organs start to die, finally his lungs and heart begin to fail. You note he said his condition is not compatible with life, and would only get worse. At that stage, its just cruel to keep going. In Australia, although he nor the family won't get a bill for the ICU stay, roughly speaking, if they were tourists, without insurance, then the rough cost for an Australian ICU bed is about $9,500 per day. They usually also require a % of that fee each day you are there, usually about $1,500 per day.
I ended up in intensive care in the uk, quite a few years ago, I am bipolar and tried to take my own life and watching this makes me feel incredibly selfish. People are in here through no fault of their own and the fact that I had put myself here no matter how ill I was makes me feel incredibly guilty. I’m glad I’m here today to watch this and now have a wonderful life and beautiful son x
I have such respect and admiration for the doctors, nurses, and therapists who treat critically ill or injured patients. They are angels on earth. It's sad that Peter did not make it.

When they told me they were going to withdraw my mothers treatment, they never told me that she would basically die because she couldn't breath on her own. Although they sedated her, she still called out every so often as if she was asking for help as she struggled to breathe. Still today it haunts me.

such a great programme. I am sure our hearts go out to those who did not do so well, in spite of all the excellent treatment; also a thought to the family who lost someone so that a heart was available. I used to be skeptical, put now have that I want to be an organ donor, on my drivers licence. The programme makes it looks so streamlined, but a huge amount of amazing work has gone on-not the least by friends and family-thank you to them for allowing these stories to be told.

My sister died in 2015 due to swine flu. She died within a few hours of being taken to a state run hospital in Rajkot which is in Gujarat India. The health care system in India is pathetic. It’s only for the super rich and private hospitals are in the business of looting. The government is silent.

My Daughter just died of Fentanyl overdose and she aspirated. The guy who did CPR told me vomit was coming out of her nose and mouth. She was Gurgling when he found her......She vomited and it went into her lungs.....She drown on her vomit I think
The killing power of the flu is unreal...and the secondary infections it causes...is there a real good way to describe it besides hell?? Maybe a psycho serial killer?? Broke my heart he didn't make it. But i know they tried hard to save him. God bless.
Even if you,'re insured you can be devastated by medical and medicine bills. My medicare, supplemental, Rx ins. Costs near $600+ a.month. i pay more in medjcal expenses than my mortgage.
It's really a shame that doctors in 2020 didn't follow these types of procedures and actually looked for ways to properly diagnose, treat and actually save lives instead of listening to bureaucrats and people who are not doctors and have never diagnosed or treated a patient in what to do.

My brother and his new wife came up to the hospital to visit with me. The two of their bridal party too. It was such a beautiful surprise. I cried.
Wasn't that beautiful? Amidst all the crises around them, suddenly he gets to see his beloved sister in her dress.
My new husband and I went to visit his mother in our wedding clothes. It was a gentle and good visit. His mother passed away a month later.
So awesome that she brought him cake too! It looked sooo good! 😍 🍰

They are when they’re in his room. They’re wearing a duck bill n95, a isolation gown, and gloves. But if you’re outside the room, you don’t wear PPE.
