  • Hello! We are Will and Alex and we're on a mission to recreate all 2,000 images from our "Around the World in 2,000 Pictures" book from the 1950's. In December 2021, we went to Chamonix to snowboard and to also visit the Mer de Glace glacier! It's the largest glacier in the French Alps, and can be reached by train + cable car from the town's center. In this video, we'll show you what to expect as you plan your trip to Chamonix.
Please leave any Chamonix recommendations in the comments!
Where to buy your train ticket online (www.montblancn...) - The ticket gets you on the train, on a cable car, access to the caves, and a ride back to Chamonix. We bought ours online, but you can also buy it at the station BEFORE waiting in line.

Hi! If the caves and cable car are closed - is a train ride worth it?

Hello, could you please tell me how long to walk down to the glacier? considering to bring my parents '60yo+) there soon but i don't know if they'll tolerate walking that much... do you recommend?

Hi! We don’t remember exactly how long it took, but there were some places one could stand and rest if they needed to. I know personally, my parents who are 60+ with hip and knee problems would NOT have enjoyed all those stairs. You can still take the train there and see what’s left of the glacier from above, but maybe doing one of the other cable cars in Chamonix would be more fun for them..

@@willandalextravel thank you so much for the tip! The other ones are more expensive so i wasn't considering them... Aiguille de Midi sounds nice but 75€ each person 🤪 the other one to Brévent also 60€ each 🥺🥺

Have glaciers ever melted before in earth's history?

how many hours would you say it takes to go there and back from Chamonix?

I would say 2-3 hours! Depends how fast you are on the stairs and if you want to eat at the little restaurant or not.
