I don't know why videos of real sailing are not more popular. People need to see this and know it's not all anchoring in some warm bay in the Florida Keys sipping sundowners... This was awesome sailing...!!!
It helps...lucky is the best....Even skilled sailors can vanish in the Drake. Rogue waves 70' high can vanish a sailboat instantly, possibly even preventing an EPIRB from transmitting. It's actually scary how much luck is involved the smaller the vessel. Ships hundreds of feet long get slapped by waves on top floors occasionally. It is doable though, Shackleton even managed to make it in a lifeboat converted to a sailboat while stranded...using stones to ballast and a deck that didn't even stop all water ingress. There are several small sailboat videos of crossings on YT. You will find that most of "the best sailors" know better than sail the Drake, boats capable of regular crossings are just our of the cost range of all but corporate interests
