"I AM THE EARTH" - at Green Grads 2024, Yorkton Workshop, London.
Tayo’s exuberant large-scale textile compositions vividly celebrate nature and animals and are intricately crafted from meticulously-cut scraps of discarded Dutch wax prints, with their bold distinctive graphics, of the type historically exported to West Africa, the artist’s homeland. “I can feel the history of these fabrics through my hands.” Etched pieces of scrap wood enhance the effect. “I advocate for nature through art. My work is my personal reaction to the effects of global warming. It evokes positive dialogues and suggests repurposing waste. The Earth deserves a chance to survive long after we are gone. I believe passionately in earth preservation and my art is my weapon for the needed change.”
