Irrelevance! I get that they want to create drama, but this would put so many people off from going to court. The prosecution would have intervened when she brought up the relationship status, as it is irrelevant to the case. Going through court is a long, laborious, and emotionally taxing process. A good defence would have brought up who the target was, and tried to cast doubt over the threat of violence (he was throwing it to her side, as a threat, but you got in the way), instead of suggesting that she deserved it.
