  • Issued in 1915 on Canadian HMV: 0019.
interesting that these HMV discs have all the Victor branding but are distributed and manufactured by Berliner. These discs tended to be recorded away from Viktor way out in Montreal and I've never seen a Canadian Berliner master show up elsewhere.
Vive La Canadienne is a traditional French Canadian folk song which was Joseph Saucier's specialty. he is likely even accompanying himself here as he learned piano before he even learned to sing.
Joseph Saucier was the first French Canadian artist to record on cylinders and one of the first on discs depending on what you count. henry Burr and Harry MacDonough were Canadian but they left Canada the first chance they got and never really come across as Canadians whereas Saucier stayed in Canada besides touring and seemed quite proud of his Canadian roots.
