    This one surprised me. I expected more of the same, and, whereas it's the same system, some nice thematic additions are to be found! I really enjoyed this one. If you enjoy it too, please 'Like' and Comment below. And thanks for visiting! 👍😊

    Great overview, Solo! So well explained, and this looks like a great challenge! It looks like they’ve spent a lot of time working on the AI, so that games will play out quite differently. Wonderful work!

      Thanks for checking in Zilla, appreciated. Yes I like these publications mainly because they're just so accessible! And tough to beat 😊

    • @ZillaBlitz
      @ZillaBlitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@soloboardgaming I did have one question. Is the book basically 2 sets of 12 identical battles? So each page for the 2 battles is repeated 12 times?

    • @soloboardgaming
      @soloboardgaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZillaBlitz Yes Zilla correct. Now I wish they had 'difficulty' steps like they did in the other bookgames. Here we get 12 day 1 without step changes and then 12 day 2. Admittedly the 2 days of battle are very different to be fair.

      @@soloboardgaming Thanks for clarifying, SOLO! Yes, I can see how some variability in the 2 would be nice. :)

    Thanks for the excellent and enthusiastic review. You give a good sense of the play so - as the comments show - people can decide if it suits them. I’ll have to watch your Waterloo review. A minor note: the names shown on the Day 2 map reflect divisions rather than brigades, e.g., Hood’s division.

    • @soloboardgaming
      @soloboardgaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching and for your comment. And I appreciate your info that we're dealing with divisions and not brigades, it all helps 😊👍

    Thanks for another excellent video. I suspect given how much fun I've had with the other titles in this series I'd buy this anyway, but your video tipped the balance for me 😊

    Gettysburg is a very tough battle for the Confederates to win, although they should be able to score a tactical victory on the first day...which they did. They outnumbered the Union at that point. Their morale was extremely high, and they had utmost confidence in themselves after several past victories. The Union, on the other hand, fought harder than usual, being on their home ground, and they chose very good defensive positions which is often the key to winning Civil War battles. After Day 1 their growing superiority in numbers, plus their positions on the high ground eventually began wearing out the Confederate army. It is not really surprising that the game deals only with the first 2 days, because after the 2nd day had ended Lee should have disengaged. His famous attack on the Union center on the 3rd day was a disaster, and should never have been made in the first place....but Lee's "blood was up" and he was in no mood to just give up the fight and leave Pennsylvania. It was not the first time Lee had been reckless, but this time it did not work out!

    Another brillant, indepth review Paul, tremendously well done! I was on the fence about this book because I wasn't sure if it's that different from Waterloo to justify the purchase. Your explanation and presentation is excellent in showing the differences and now I'm convinced it's more than worth it. I'll order it right away. By the way: I can't wait for your take on On to Moscow Solitaire. I got it yesterday but wasn't in the mood to play it yet (the rules seemed a bit messy to me).

    Another good presentation Solo. Whilst not being drawn into ACW at all this may well be just that game book for the non enthusiast. As always good posture on presenting the flow of what the game is and really good focus on the three days as separate games, definitely an interesting bonus.

    Just letting you know I've bought all four in the series based on your videos! Any ideas on what might be next? Battle of Cannae? Agincourt? Cydonia? Okay that last one isn't real, but I would be interested in a fictional sci-fi battle on Mars, but that's just me haha. Love your content and look forward to seeing more!

    Hello! I have a question: in the scenario for Day 2, how should I interpret the result 4 on the Random Events Table ("Meade in command: Ignore 1 Union hit this turn")? Does this mean that I should ignore a "hit" inflicted by the Union on the Confederates, or conversely, should I ignore a "hit" inflicted on the Union by the Confederates? (Note: I am French, and perhaps my English is deficient!)

    Bought Bismarck. wow!!!😀😀👍👍
    not big on Napoleonics but I figured I'd give the Waterloo one a shot. 😀😀👍👍. enjoy so much I went out and bought about 50 English 50 French and 60 Prussian 28 mm figures. Yes I've finally gone deep into the Napoleonic era I guess I need to get my Avalon Hill War and Peace out next...lol.

    This one I did not enjoy. I was really disappointed. I felt there were issues in the rules, all 12 battles for the 2 days are the exact same unlike in Waterloo where they change the bots actions. My final major issue is that day 1 strategy for victory is basically always the same- attack in same order, never go after the reserves.... For anyone debating which book to get, I would say get waterloo and pass on this one

    • @soloboardgaming

      Fair comment my friend. I've only played once each battle so far so I suppose can't really make that judgement. With one play each battle my first impression has been positive. Always appreciate your view, thank you 😊
