This man is a sublime talent. I became a fan in the mid-80s and still love his music to this day. Who else uses Latin and jazz grooves to create a song about cancer of all things? Underrated he may be in some circles, but Joe Jackson is a remarkable talent (and has a cutting English sense of humour). Privileged to have seen him perform three times (80s/90s).
one of the greatest albums to come out of the 80’s (night and day), and the best song from it. the ONLY artist who can hold a candle to a steely dan or a dave brubeck, period.
I like that Joe Jackson can indeed hold a candle to Joe Jackson... He made a classical album that was pretty phenomenal (Kinda Britten inspired) ~ "Will Power"
Just 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with cancer. So had to play this. It's obvious Joe Jackson likes Latino music. Having lived in Venezuela for 9 yrs. I was instantly drawn to his music. Would love to see him live.
This song is actually sarcastic. It is a song about how everything that gives you pleasure is bad for you. He says this on one of the live posts of this song. He actually sells monogrammed Zippo lighters at his concerts.
Hi Brian. Loved your comment and I was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2004 and doing fine so far. I also grew up in Venezuela even though I was born in Italy. Hope you are doing well.
Not exactly an imitation! Joe Jackson was living in New York and collaborated with integrants of the salsa at this time (Héctor Lavoe and possibly Rúben Blades). He knew some of this world from inside, The best credit was the cover that did Lavoe of this song.
As a house head, I love the duo of Josh Milan and Kevin Hedge, better known as Blaze. Listening to this, I truly think this song, among many, had an influence on that group!
Aside from Latino musicians, Joe Jackson was probably the only Brit to successfully co-op the groove onto his Night and Day album. It was and is a distinctive album, totally unlike those from his peers of the late seventies and early eighties. A classic!
So I waited a year. This is from a live concert. They dont have three minute songs "live". I think you need to find the cassette disk and play that endlessly since that is how you are programmed. 3:33 is not concert length. uggh. By the way. Nice of who ever shared this.
As a cancer survivor I play this loudly and to everyone who wants to hear it. Joe Jackson is without compare.

I'm listening to this album tonight (2020) as I type this. Might put on Aja or Katie Lied next....

Joe Jackson developed my taste for a variety of jazz styles at a pre teen age. Joe is a rare talent and I enjoy him to this day!
Amen
Joe Jackson is unsurpassed! He wrote unique, wonderful compositions and I treasure all his albums in my collection 💕
Name an artist that studied classical music and became popular with punk, swing, pop, jazz and movie soundtracks
Simplemete fenomenal me alegro que un anglosajon valore lo rica que es la musica latina❤
One of the best imitations of salsa music outside south-American nations
Jackson knows how Latin music really should be. Sophisticated and luxurious~♬

Imitation? What the hell is that even supposed to mean?

Always thought this song was so odd and yet nothing health wise has changed in the decades since i heard it. Wonder what inspired it

Very nice. Hector Lavoe made a great cover of this song in Spanish.
Julio Sanchez Joe did a version in Spanish too.

Yeah. It is just hard to find a good album from the 80s. I did hear this song in radio rotation, now it has been cast aside like other gems.
I like the girl palm muting her dinner glass while tapping it with her spoon
And they wanna compare him to Elvis Costello. Didn't get it. Don't get it. Will never get it.
Yeah, he’s a million times better and more versatile
ESTE TEMA TIENE UN EXTRACTO DE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM DE EDDIE PALMIERI,,,
🥰
I love this song but did he get permission from Eddie Palmieri to use Chocolate
Héctor lavoe
Is that Jose Chepito Areas of Santana on congas?
That's Sue Hadropolis toured with Joe Jackson and Cindy Lauper
No her name is Sue Hadjopoulos. Absolutely brilliant
Like 18 people in the rhythm section.
Like the talking heads😊
Bossa nova
Who's the other singer?
That's Graham Maby.

Joe Jackson was great, but his songs are a bit too long.
How's the width?

Sometimes 3 minutes is not enough...
It's called improve, dumb ass!!
