I had the same problem with my iPhone XS. The only solution I've found is to play a sound or podcast while charging, and you can turn off your phone during charging. Sadly, there's no other fix, but I hope this helps.
this is a Charging Flex problem you might want to replace it ,and when your battery health is low , consider also replacing it, another work around is to charge on Powerbank.
From india, I also facing the same issue & now i understand thats the firmware issue after all seeing the same issue as you recently! Wait until the new update for iphone xs cause there is no hardware problem if there is so charger will not work at all! Thats the firmware glitch that give commands to cut off the battery power supply to iphone while pluggin to charger after screen turn off after some specific time! So wait for new update🙃

Already changed my iphone xs battery and tried to charge it on powerbank but nothing happened. Still the same issue
