Ghana is waking up tired of shatta and stone with "dancehall" now we have good vocalist who can sing and sound African. Kidi, kuami Eugene, kurl songx, king promise, ebony.
Asante Akan Boss, I beg to differ. Shatta Wale doesn't really do dancehall much these days o, he's more of an afrobeats artist now really. But I wouldn't say Ghanaians are tired of dancehall, it's still there, but there's just diversity in the industry.
Kwame Darko that's why I put it in quotations he calls it dancehall as well as his fans. The ppl in Ghana like what they think is dancehall are not the majority. Just look at how good kidi and Eugene cause ppl like afrobeats. Shatta and stone mannerisms and style are copying Jamaicans. The Ghanaians abroad had to play Nigerian music for a while in clubs cause all the Ghana artist were doing fake dancehall mimicking Jamaicans. We live around real Jamaicans we don't want to seem like copy cats. Funny how Ghana rose with azonto and when the dancehall era came Ghana music went down. I'm talking outside Ghana. And shatt as biggest songs were when he was sounding authenticity African. Him and stone need to stop the patwa even ebony needs to stop. Even TH-cam views stone hardly hits a million kurl, kidi, Eugene videos that came out this year are about to hit a million.
Asante Akan Ah, but who says the Patois style is what is hurting our music? To me I don't see anything wrong with that, I just feel like if you mix that style with the local language and something else it would be more relatable. But none the less, to be a dancehall artist you have to use patois because it fits into the genre. Whether it's fake or not, you have to give them credit for being creative. A lot of people like to use the American accent when singing, but you don't see anyone getting on their case and calling them fake American singers....I mean that's how music is really...and I dont think the reason for Ghanaian clubs abroad playing Nigerian music is because of Ghanaians using the patois sound. It doesn't make sense. To me our music has always been good, but the problem is getting it out there to the world.
Kwame Darko it because when your African going to an African party you don't want to hear an African singing cringe worthy patwa. We grow up around Jamaicans and know how they sound. The Ghanaians patwa is ridiculous, this is why bisa kdei shows are packed and stonebwoy show was empty when they came to Toronto. The Ghanaians are always playing Nigerian afrobeats all over social media. Cause afrobeats, hiplife, etc is on the rise. America accent is different from from forcing a patwa and copying the Jamaican mannerisms. Shatta said he wish he was born in Jamaica lol. You don't have to use Jamaican patwa for dancehall you can use pidgin just use a dancehall beat. If you live here you would know. We grew up listening to real dancehall we don't need it from Ghanaians we apwant African music for Ghanaians. It's corny here. Ghana like copying in general and see nothing wrong with it. We had a African festival every country came to rep their culture and stonebwoy came imitating Jamaicans. Smh. Sarkodie raps in twi and is bigger than stonebwoy and Shatta internationally. Bisa speaks straight twi ppl like authenticity. Dancehall is already owned you can't out Jamaican, Jamaicans.
Kwame Darko just watch you will see Shatta dancehall songs never blow he sound so embarrassing trying to act like a Jamaican talking bout gun dis and gun dat like Ghanaians have real bodmon like Jamaica. Here if you rap like someone your not ppl call you out. It's not an accent it's a whole dialect and mannerism in their videos. Stop it, it's corny. Now Ghana music is in the rise again. Look at what mr Eazi has accomplished in one year where is Shatta and stone ? He came and pass them sounding authentic.
