This was a great chill video to sit down on the couch and draw my own maps too.

I don’t know how to use traditional brushes, but watching your videos makes me want to pick up pencils and crisp paper again-I really miss the tactile feedback of traditional tools. Maybe it’s time to finally try out those brushes I was gifted along with an artbook that feels too perfect and pristine to use. Have you ever hesitated to start an artbook because you didn’t want to "ruin" it? :D

Oh, my gosh, Ren, you’re like my unknown twin!❤
That’s exactly how I used to feel: Sure I shouldn’t d-r-a-w on this nice, unblemished white paper…
I think that’s why I started making my mini-maps first. If I mess it up, I’ve only ruined 4 times 4 cm of paper.
I haven’t used traditional brushes and pencils for years. When digital art came around and I discovered Photoshop, I nicked my partner’s Wacom drawing pad and I haven’t looked back since… until now.
I can use some of my skillsets from digital art and apply them to traditional art, but there is still so much to learn. I sorely miss an UNDO command, to erase, warp, cut out pieces and move them around, etc.
The difference between a dip ink pen and a Wacom pen is massive, and although I’m quite used to drawing, painting is completely new to me.
(Prepare for AI art rant, but with a happy ending...)
I‘m not a trained artist and I don’t have an art degree, but I’ve been drawing for fun (and for our books for the last couple of years).
When the whole AI art arrived, initially I felt quite… sad.
Not all AI is bad, but at its core AI art is about stealing people's art and repackaging it without consent or monetary contribution.
Although AI art can look amazing, it isn’t art. Because art is about expressing yourself.
I went back to traditional art and fell a little bit in love. Although it isn’t perfect, it’s my fantasy art that I want to share with the world.😺

Have you ever talked about Southern Faraway?

Eh, well, not really. We’ve only been there a couple of times during our D&D sessions, so it’s pretty much uncharted territory.
But if you like to, I can tell you what I know about it, in an upcoming video? 😺

Wish granted - I’m writing the script for the next video right now and I’ll see if I can squeeze in some information about Southern Farraway. 😺
