Thank you so much. I'm going to be an aerospace engineer, already am, I've broken the sound barrier many times. The thing that really hurts me is the grounding of or space program. I've touched one of our shuttles it was the most invigorating times in my life. Please dont let our program die NASA!

I am from India and am an aspiring astronaut. I also play cricket, so it's nice to know that a NASA astronaut enjoys playing this sport.

happy to see how some women can work very hard to reach those levels in today's society. I take my hat off to her. we need people like her to make this generation dreams again.

Im 13 also at first i was and still am intrested in joining the army and my goal was to become a revolutionary change the world in some way but then i watched crash course astronomy and started to see how big our galaxy and how big our universe reallly is and just being a revolutionary on earth is no longer worth much an instead we should aim to move to space and thats why im considerring becoming a astronaut

      J. Monte Yes, the vast majority won't become astronauts. Though, the ones who actually try to become astronauts make it far. Those who never give up make it to the point of fighting the odds of 3,000 other people qualifying. So, basically if you try qualifying for 3 years, it's pretty much like facing the odds of 1,000 people. At the same time, your odds increase by having more money allowing yourself to get Ph.D's and M.d's. At the same time, more money would allow you to become an aviator, and gain fly time, thus increasing odds. So let's say you're a pilot with 3,000hr+ fly time, whilst an engineer with a professional job for 3+ years, with a B.s, M.d, PhD and possibly other degrees. Basically, if you have money and don't give up, you can succeed if you've got some odds in your favor. Never give up... IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, THEN DO IT!

      J. Monte Oh, and at the same time being physically fit and have no health issues you get more odds

Aunon says "engineering and mathematics", forgetting to mention the other major branch that populates a sizable cohort of its astronaut corp: physical science. Many astronauts have degrees in chemistry, physics, biology, for example. Aunon says often in this piece that `NASA is engineering'. That is only partly true. NASA is many is composed of many subjects. The founding father of NASA, Werner von Braun, was a physicist. GW piece is a bit misleading...

14:40 6900 applicants and 50-60 people get throw, with about 10 actually becoming astronauts? And all of that every 3-4 years?
    You americans are lucky!
In europe (esa) we have about 10000 applicants and only 3 or so make it! And esa only accepts astronauts every 6-7 years. :(
