Kaneda is also portrayed as have a style simply impractical for a tournament where you don't have much time to recover.
Hope we get 3rd season, Gaolang vs Kanoh where Gaolang mixes boxing and muay thai is dope

I like how even though from an audience perspective this fight looks completely one-sided, Gaolang genuinely considered it a good fight.

You gotta admit that Kaneda really did bits in this and in the last rush he dodged so many attacks, but his problem was that he got too much damage in too quickly, so he couldn't really adapt to Gaolang's style fast enough to overcome him.

    • @TheJamieellis

The only thing holding Kaneda back is his body and Gaolon recognises that. He sees Kaneda has a warriors spirit, hence why he goes all out.

  • @Crowrowrow

what kaneda uses is the kujin style; a fictional style of "classical japanese martial arts". it is unusual in the context of a hand-to-hand tournament because it is actually described as a form of swordsmanship, that assumes both fighters are armored. so real traditional shit. a key element of the style is that you take the opponent to the ground, and then kill him with your weapon. this shows especially strong in this match particularly, where kaneda tries to drop gaolang/gaolan/kaolan/whatever floats your boat with a sweep and a shoulder throw. this is the intent of the style, and trying to take on a four time heavyweight boxer with something so limited in unarmed potential is framed as monumentally ridiculous. but as seen in his match with himuro, his foresight is the big equalizer, and with it he can compete against more proficient fighters even without accounting for his sickly body.
...sorta. gaolang was a bit too much for him clearly lmao
the manga first describes the kujin style during this fight and i wish the anime had done the same. we see him name the kujin style in his techniques but we are never actually told what that is. i guess they have a production schedule to keep though

Amazing answer! Thank you so much for taking the time to go through that!
I always loved the idea of brains vs braun and the idea that pure skill can overcome size and strength. But unfortunately it gets to a point where the sheer physicality becomes too much to ignore.
Maybe if he'd gotten to fight someone other than Gaolan we'd have gotten to see him go a bit further

@@BurridgeMartialArts604 That’s why humans are adapted for tool use. Physical combat is great for sport. However when it comes to self defence, the equalizer will always be armaments. Size doesn’t matter when bullets or blades are in the mix. That said; I love physical combat sports, games and media!

true forsight indeed makes a huge ass difference in a fight my eyesight and hearing arent the best yet im still able to outfight people who are either bigger and stronger or faster then me through the most simple dodges, parries, blocks to waste the least energy i can and even taking hits on purpose to make them think im hurting but in reality im simply redirecting and dispersing the force so it does virtually nothing unless its a damn good haymaker but on the upside it does sometimes work against sucker punches too kengan did forsight perfectly in my eyes as someone just like him who uses whatever move thats needed to win

    • @seanwilliams7655
      @seanwilliams7655 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@BurridgeMartialArts604 Kaneda wasn't able to do as well early in the match because Gaolong was holding back. Kaneda had watched some of his matches, so he was expecting certain things. Since Gaolong didn't want to hurt him, the timing was off. He's gives his little speech to make Gaolong go all out. All that said, like you said, fighting is still about physicality at the end of the day. Even if you know exactly what's coming, it doesn't do you any good if your body just can't move fast enough to do anything about it.

An awesome thing I noticed, is that the very strongest fighter in this whole tournament, Fang, uses the same ability as Kaneda (With the slight variation that once he analyses his opponent he doesn't just counter him perfectly, but also create a fresh new fighting style on top of that)

Kaneda won his spot at the tournament defeating Himuro Ryo in a great, but short fight, should take a look also. It is very dissapointing how Netflix/LARX doesn´t even give a tiny light of hope about the continuity of the anime, there are so many more incredible matches like Julius vs Wakatsuki, Saw Paing vs Mikazuchi, Ohma vs Cosmo, Gaolang vs Agito etc.

Later on in the series it’s revealed Gaolang Wongsawats true style is in fact muay thai and he practiced boxing on the side. (Gaolang has a mentality that this is just a show and not a true place for warriors to fight at this point and doesn’t have a reason to use his muay thai)

With Kaneda, he considered the fight like a game so he went "all out" with the intention of just winning the game (all he needs is his boxing to do so). @@dealtanace most boxing stances look similar but have these little things that make them different
Hitman is more straight-forward, good for tall people, they just sway back to dodge and use left hand for maintaining constant pressure at range, and right hand for parry/block
Philly is more side-ways, more compact in the arms, good for small people, they curl in or roll to the sides to dodge, use left hand to block or help with roll, and right hand awaits for openings in opponent guard and hit there
To make a comparison hitman is like a medieval duelist with long sword and small shield, Philly is like Roman infantry with big shield and short sword

Today's mixed martial artist should be able to entertain educate in a manner that makes fans and spectators want to introduce this kind of discipline into their everyday life. As a way to improve upon and maintain it to the highest degree that is possible. Victoria Lee was well on her way to proving this theory without going out of her way. I believe I have 3 to 5 years to prove it. Even though she is not in the physical to witness it. She can still get full spiritual recognition for martial arts being the fastest and most efficient way for one to learn their own body's capabilities and limitations thus becoming physically fit mentally sound spiritually balanced being able to express physical freedom. If you would like to try and help keep her dream alive you can wish or prey combination of both. And then live in accordance to validate such a confession of love. S.R.F.

All things equal and the bigger guy will win? Well, maybe if the bigger guy ALSO has the same speed. You did say “all things equal”, but if that includes strength, then why on earth would being bigger mean you would win? If anything, you’re easier to hit. I’m 6 feet 225 pounds, and someone 5’ 7” and 150 pounds won’t have the same strength as me. But if he did, he would definitely beat me. Simultaneously, he could also have enough speed and/or endurance to overcome my strength. We have seen smaller guys in MMA beat the ripped and jacked guys quite often. I don’t think anyone thinks Kimberly Slice RIP could have ever beaten Diego Sanchez, for example. Yes, different fight styles and whatnot, but Sanchez also would outmaneuver, outpace, and outlast slice any day of the week.

I'm 5,9 and my sparing partner is 6,2 and honestly I'm stronger but just cos of his height I do have to work twice as hard to win

Yeah just read in someone elses comment that I was apparently wrong haha he just didn't think it was worth using! I did think it was weird that the Thai God Of War didn't use Muay Thai, also makes the Gaolan/Saw Paing rivalry so much cooler to me! Can't wait to see him cut loose with some elbows and knees!
