This is a time period where women are being pressured to prioritize their career more than ever while men are less pressured than ever before, so him choosing to address this message to women makes sense. The number of people overall who are having children is decreasing, which is a scary trend for the future of the country. @@lebrinjims3580 no it is not a scary trend when you realize the world population is still rising, you also need to realize that him saying diabolical lies literally disrespects the women’s revolution. No matter how you look at it, even if women are being pressured to work(it’s seriously not even that bad like y’all make it seem) saying it’s a diabolical lie? That’s just a shitty thing to say. And why single out women? Single mother rates are higher than ever, put more focus on men being fathers than women not working. What he said is applicable to men too, it’s a sexist remark to single out women for something easily applied to men. Even the nuns at the college don’t agree with his speech, it’s not just a catholic view, it’s his own personal beliefs mixed in with catholic traditions. But that doesn’t mean he is sexist, I’m just saying what he said in that part of the speech was sexist no matter how you try to look at it
As a traditional catholic, I want to clarify HBs point on womens vocation s. The word "vocation" is derived from Latin "Vocare" meaning "to call". A "vocation" or a " "calling"(from God) is different for every person. This means that SOME women will have a vocation to lead successful careers, whereas SOME will have a vocation to be Housewives. And, as HB explained, being a housewife is one of the most rewarding things a woman can do because many women do not have the privilege of raising their own children.
@@xdlmao42he’s not allowed to say his beliefs? Because his beliefs are different so you don’t like him? Come on now. He’s allowed to have his own opinion
You do realize that 98 percent of the women in that audience probably agree with every word of what he is saying. Also, he never condemned them for getting degrees and never said that they can’t get jobs, all he said was that the most fulfilling thing you can do in life is to be a spouse and a parent. He said basically the same thing about men as well.
My mother was an incredibly successful woman who loved her job as a chemist after she had graduated college. She thoroughly enjoyed her career, until she married my father, who granted, made a suitable amount of money for the family to live comfortably as the only source of income. She made her own decision to leave her career behind because she knew that raising a family was more important, and she leaned into the vocation of “home-maker”. Just because that is her role doesn’t mean she has no life outside of her role in our family, in fact she meets with her friends quite often and feels fulfilled with her life. After asking her why she got a degree if her plan was to become a “home-maker” at some point, she responded by saying that people have to be ready for everything, and that even though she desired to be a mother and a wife PRIMARILY and everything else fell after that, she wanted to make sure that if that wouldn’t be possible that she could still live a satisfying life. Of course not all women think like my mother or Butker’s wife, so while I agree that what he’s saying is a blanket statement, women who are attending a Catholic college are likely excited for their career, and potentially the ability to be a “home-maker” if given the opportunity, because that is not a role to be frowned upon, and I give all credit to my mother for making me into the person I am today. Edit: I’d like to conclude what I’m saying here with the fact that I genuinely enjoy watching you Papa Meags. I’ve watched almost every video you’ve posted on this and your main channel. However, it’s my opinion that you, like many others who’ve reacted to this speech, are misidentifying what the point of Butkers address is trying to get across.
your mother made that choice, harrison butker is saying that ALL women (who are catholic) should do that. to make it worse he said it at a college with women who just made a huge investment to have a career. I think if you want to make that choice you should, but on such an important day for all those women to be essentially told "you'll do great as a mom and not much else" isn't exactly a great feeling. That's where, for me at least, I don't understand why he thought saying any of this was okay.

Firstly, he said that he guessed the majority of women were excited about being mothers, not all of them. Second, he praised the women for achieving this degree, and he said that some of them will have very successful careers. Third, he talked about their vocation. For someone who isn't Catholic or even many Catholic seem to not know what a vocation is, it is God's calling for your life. When he says that his wife leaned into her vocation, that means her vocation was to be a mother. There are 4 vocations: Generous Single Life, Religious Life, Priesthood, and Marriage. The fact that MMG glazes on the contrary idea was, to say the least, kinda shocking to me at first. He doesn't understand why this is JUST a religious thing, but also a basic human way of life? To put it in a different perspective, imagine Butker's wife standing up there, giving the same sermon, except this time it was directed at MEN, being fathers. I would be ENCOURAGED to take that role, without at all blinking an eye at these 2 scenarios having to collide and conflict with one another. Now, granted, Butker's approach doesn't fit woke activists leftist ideals, because it seems to be something that actually sounds realistic, but the IDEA is the same, and has been, for all of human history. Have women REALLY been suppressed, all of history?

There is nothing controversial about this. He said he thinks women are more excited to have a family than work for 50 years. As a man I'm more excited to find a wife and have kids than my career. This is an L, Meags. Butker never affirmed the false premise that it's either marriage and children OR a career. He never said women should abandon their career goals. He only said that they shouldn't be ashamed for wanting to get married and have children.
Papa, with all due respect... He's not saying women belong in the kitchen. He expresses this, especially in his love for his wife, and says she's been crucial to his success in the NFL.
Yeah, but for him to say that he ventures to believe that most of the women are mostly excited about marriage and being a mother is where he went wrong… Some of the women may feel that way, but I’m pretty sure all of the women are excited about pursuing a career in the degree that they Just received And May not even be thinking about children at the moment… It’s easy for someone making millions of dollars to think about having children and his wife can easily be a homemaker, but the rest of these women need to pursue a career in order to make the money to support children
No women has been told that they can only achieve happiness through their career. Sounds like a an overly paranoid boomer statement. Women and anyone CAN achieve happiness through careers, personal success, etc…
@lexagfc9931 then why is it viewed as a step down to be a homemaker? Hell, even in this video, he said that hb shouldn't have said it to women who want to be MORE than a homemaker. The "most diabolical lie" he is talking about is the people saying the only thing that makes life matter is the amount of money you make, your job title, and your status in a job. That is a diabolical lie, because if you ask most mothers, they say the most important thing is their child. Again, mothers. Those who want to be mothers. Plus, it's in a religious school, where they do believe that motherhood is very important. It's not for everyone, but for most. I will say, he could have said it better, but I also believe the most diabolical lie is telling anyone the only thing that matters is your money, job title, or how high up you are on the ladder. That's what the world today says
I also believe that he wasn't saying "you went here for nothing" not everyone is going to be a mother or wife, husband, or father right out of college. It takes time for a family to form. Some mat have already taken that step, but most haven't. I think it is important for a child to have two loving parents, and not leave them with a babysitter 5 days a week; or conversely, never seeing your partner because you work different timed shifts. Both lead to negative outcomes. Whether that's the father staying home, or the mother. Regardless, I agree with what Harrison said, especially because he stays true to his ideology.

I know I'll have a good career and etc, but having a family of my own that I can provide for is what I really aspire for. Not everybody has the same dreams and goals, and that alright, and people can have different opinions. I can respect people who disagree with my view in life, because I know that not everybody wants to have a family or be married.
Ah yes because we should care about the opinion of the guy who’s had 5 girlfriends in the last 10 years, none of which he’s stayed with for over a year, talking about what it’s like to have a wife and family. Got it👍
I think Papa’s mistake is thinking that two good parents in a bad financial situation can’t be happy raising a family. That’s true because family is more important than a career. Kids are the physical embodiment of the future. While careers are important, kids are more important. If we all had bad kids or no kids we wouldn’t have a species.
I think that the reason it comes across so negatively is that he starts the speech by calling everyone who disagrees with him "diabolical liars". He can have his beliefs and people can choose to agree but its not diabolical to find happiness in other places either. The controversy isnt about the beliefs in my opinion its about the literal words hes saying.
It’s sad that the world today sees a man talk about how fulfilling and wonderful it is to be a mother and people spin that to “women should stay in the kitchen and only focus on raising children.”
Not all educated women are single. I don’t think he’s saying that having an education is bad but it’s all over the news that being a parent in general is a frowned upon thing. His delivery on this isn’t the best but I can see what he’s trying to say. There are many women are educated and even having Masters having a great marriage and the Catholic Church doesn’t teach that women have to stay in the house. There are many traditional Catholics that also have degrees as well. There’s nothing wrong with getting degree according to the church. I actually go to the school and it wouldn’t be a smart move for him to actually say that, but I think what he is trying to say is what I just labeled. So understand this, MMG I really do like your content and everything, but trying to teach people about the faith and what have you when you don’t really know much about it doesn’t really make sense no offense, but the Catholic Church doesn’t teach that all women should be in the house like there’s many women that are highly educated they made a huge difference within the world and in the church.
MEAGS really misinterpreted the speech just like everyone I’m not even catholic and after like 5 seconds of critical thinking I understood the point HB was getting across.
Mat.. buddy… he’s right on every topic. Per capita the US has the highest rate of single parent homes. It stems from feminism that says they don’t need a man, society tearing marriages apart and men not wanting to be present (not in that order).
I just graduated and while I really am excited to start a career, starting a family is one of the most exciting things for the future. I’m not even catholic or super religious
Nothing he said was controversial under a roof of Christians. Yes men abused the “women as house wives” just as there is different abuse today. If done biblically being a house wife isn’t ugly or being put down. The husband is to sacrifice for his wife as Christ did for the church.
I've seen this multiple times and I don't see anything wrong with it. I am not Catholic. Not even a Chiefs fan fr. If you actually listen to everything he has to say and not just pick and choose what you want to hear, you can see that he's giving them examples of his own life experience and his wife's. He says that his wife wants to be a homemaker and loves being a homemaker. He can only speak to that experience so that's what he does.
@@slacproductions9595meags thinks that he is saying that they should only be looking forward to being home makers, while in reality butker is saying that it will be awesome when they get a job but one of the best parts of being an adult and having a degree is being able to raise your kids.
As did most of the people who are offended by his speech. He wasn't saying to become a homemaker right after graduation, they believe establishing your career and becoming financially ready and stable before starting a family. Also he never said all women need to be homemakers, he said SOME will go on to have great careers...meaning those that don't want to be stay at home mothers...but the majority of them will look forward to being a mother/wife. I don't understand why SOME missed those certain points of his speech.
My mom js a Neurosurgeon and Christian. I asked her about her thoughts of the speech, and through her 8 years of schooling 8 more years of residency and countless surgery’s nothing has been more rewarding than watching me and my sister grow up. She would trade all that career success for family in a heartbeat. I would also venture to say most mothers could argue that the happiest day of their life is when their kids were born.
Shouldn't that be the happiest moment of the dad's life, too? That's what I don't get.
As a catholic guy going to college, I am most looking forward to having a family and raising my future children
Me too, and this is what I wish more people would give him the benefit of the doubt on

@@ryanheidt102 Advocating for prioritizing family does not mean that you can’t have a fulfilling career. This is a time period where women are being pressured to prioritize their career more than ever while men are less pressured than ever before, so him choosing to address this message to women makes sense. The number of people overall who are having children is decreasing, which is a scary trend for the future of the country. The benefit of the doubt comes in assuming that he doesn’t mean “get back in the kitchen”

@@CK-2004 With what?
Thank you for telling the people the truth
Then what are they doing wasting their lives for studying when a man is going to take care of them financially.

Power to your mom
your mother made that choice, harrison butker is saying that ALL women (who are catholic) should do that. to make it worse he said it at a college with women who just made a huge investment to have a career. I think if you want to make that choice you should, but on such an important day for all those women to be essentially told "you'll do great as a mom and not much else" isn't exactly a great feeling. That's where, for me at least, I don't understand why he thought saying any of this was okay.

@@cameronbruce1594 The problem with your view of it is that you're saying he said all women should do that. It'd be like assuming the way Rene Descartes addressed forms and substance is the same way St. Thomas Aquinas understood those terms.

And he was speaking to these young men and women who he shares the same faith with by trying to give helpful advice and guidance to say that I’m sure they will have successful careers but to ventured to guess that they will find joy in a deeper meaning, becoming a Husband/Wife, Mother/Father. Marriage rates are so low these days and he just wanted to advise these young men and women to find a deeper meaning in their lives than their Careers but to lean into their Calling from God, Faith in Christ, Faith in their Salvation. Your time on this Earth is so short and God Loves You!!!!!! He wants to hear from you!!! I hope I could help a little bit that’s just my two sense. God Bless ❤️
It just pisses people off when they are told they should help others and not live a reckless life
@@thepicgesterIt’s insanely hard to be a nurturing and present parent while also being really successful at work. You can either be a slave to money or a servant to God, you can’t be both.
I think the thing people don’t understand is that Harrison Butker is talking about VOCATIONS. These are things we are called to do (married life, single life, religious life and priesthood) Women can have amazing jobs and be a mother. People don’t understand that you can do both. Harrison is NOT saying you MUST BE A MOTHER. There are different vocations and Harrison says it is his wife that makes him better. Women are able to get a degree and be a mom. Many mothers do this!
Harrison Butkers own mother is a pretty darn accomplished woman herself. He isn't saying the "only" thing she can do is be a mother.

@@AuroraDubbzvocation means calling for Catholics. You can be called to have a family but also a worker by God. Many women are called to be a great mom with their husbands while also working and others who are called without needing to work
Meags, I love ya, but you’re just flat out wrong by saying the whole thing on how the violence rates in single parent households is a cherry picked stat or how fatherless households have an impact on society. It took a 2 min google search to find that children that grow up without a father are 20x more likely to be incarcerated and are 279% more likely to illegally carry a firearm or deal narcotics or other stimulating substances compared to their fathered counterparts. Butker is right in a lot of his speech, especially how he talks about parenting. People need to worry more about their home life, spouses, children, etc, and not get so in over their heads in their careers. Our society has seen a huge downfall since the abandonment of even a variation of the nuclear family, even if both parents contribute financially, and if we can somewhat get back to those roots, statistically speaking, our society as a whole would be better.
It’s crazy how wrong Matt is in this video 😅he doesn’t understand anything about Catholicism and is trying to talk about what these catholic women want in their lives. All Harrison said was that their proudest achievement will be having kids and being a mother he never said they have to be just a homemaker. Loved Matt but he’s totally wrong about this
What he is saying is that no matter how much success women get from working, whether they’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or make millions of dollars. The joy of being a wife and a mother is worth more than any of that. Which is contrary to what the world says today…
True!!!

He’s just telling the truth. Let’s face it. Most of them ARE thinking about marriage and babies. Women think way different than men, as a general rule. Nothing wrong with that.

W Butker
Nothing he said was controversial under a roof of Christians. Yes men abused the “women as house wives” just as there is different abuse today. If done biblically being a house wife isn’t ugly or being put down. The husband is to sacrifice for his wife as Christ did for the church.
