Pretty much. Hisar Academy helped by providing a little food, but there aren't many techs from Feudal Age (and he hadn't gotten pro scouts, which meant he didn't even have all the feudal techs he could have gotten). If he'd lasted long enough, he'd have been getting madrassah techs at a better time relative to the other techs, but that would still take a long time. Definitely the better imp landmark (he wouldn't be able to spare the scholars for the Palace of the Sultan), but it wasn't enough income to make up for missing economy.
While the Imperial Age thing was not the right play by Demu, it was a great play to use the rams for value instead of aggression.
They dealt so much economy damage in lost wood 🪵, villager build 🏗 time, pit mine gold output, production time, idle time, distraction of the enemy away from eco macro, and inefficiency from suddenly losing things the economy was relying on.
Plus, they absorbed damage from enemy units, making the military trades better.
I think building battering rams, intending on using them for value, was definitely the right play. It put Demu massively ahead.

Aussie I got an insane replay you might want to use for your channel. In the years I’ve played age of empires. It was the most insane match ever played on turtle ridge. An hour long straight battle in the middle of the map on turtle ridge. It was absolutely insane. You need to see it, if not I’ll make a video on it but you’d be much better at it! Delhi lost isn't. I already know based on the title. @AussieDrongo you got to switch titles sometimes to keep us guessing the winners.
While what you're saying is true for a lot of his videos, this was exactly what happened, and it was very interesting.
And, why do you have to guess the winner beforehand? Also, the game is much more than just knowing the winner, while it might spoil a bit of fun in the game, a lot of fun comes from the strategies and the skirmishes.
