    I just came home from up north Vermont Derby area and the ecu sent a code Max detonation any ideas why my 850 VR1 year 2021 would send this code on my 7S display it happened once ? What Polaris oil are you guys using the ORANGE label or the SIVER label ?I mixed the two was that not a good idea ? And it back fired the first time also this year. always watch your videos thanks for being so informative.

    • @josephseitz5386

      Thanks for the note. Ok so full disclosure on 2 things. My vr1 backfires all the time when I restart at the gas station but Mikes does not. It always makes us laugh. Second thing is that we have not received any detonation errors on the Vr1 - but had many on the 800 motor. I’m hindsight when we talk about that we believe we had an issue with octane and fuel. On oil we have run everything under the sun but rarely run ves or ves extreme. Not that I dislike the oil it’s just that we can’t find it anywhere. We have been running Amsoil interceptor with ves as a backup. Mixing oil can be a bad idea if they are different genetic make up
      However if they are both full synthetics I wouldn’t give it 2 thoughts about it. Let me know how many miles you have on the motor. Detonation is either trash on the top of the piston causing early compression (not likely), poor octane (most likely), a heat issue (coolant, cooling jets, too much air in the motor),…

    • @josephseitz5386
      @josephseitz5386 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me know mileage and let’s start easy then more complicated - fuel first. Also how many times have you seen the code. The motor is good to protect itself with deto pull back mode.

    Take them Both out in Minus 20 on a 200 mile ride. I own 9 Polaris and the Skidoo is More Comfy as I'm getting over 45 now.
    Gear them Like a 90's Sled and your top speed is above 120 mph. Gearing is Low on these machine compared to 90's or early 2000's sleds. Thank Speed limits for that.
    The Ski Doo when left outside in the snow or freezing rain. The round toggle Brakes.. :( To much Techy stuff.
    Both Ride awesome. The Skidoo needs bigger vents to get that heat out from under the hood and keep your legs warm and everything from seeming like it's on fire under the hood and not enough heat evacuation.. Esp After being worked hard then slowing down . All new Sleds suffer from not keeping you warm at minus 15 or below. Esp with Older people in my Opinion.

      We put in over 340 miles today all Mach miles for me. So far so good I am really impressed with the suspension. It is super versatile and made me faster through a number of technical sections. Never thought I’d say that. Also the steering is perfect not too heavy or light. More to come we are riding all week I’ll post a video with all impressions at end of the ride.

    I agree on Skidoo controls rock solid. I am getting used to the Matrix controls. Suspension I give to Polaris especially in the XCR. My XCR 650 eats bumps and smoothed out Tunnel Road in the Highlands.

      @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Polaris get's around tight turns so much better. It is super fun to get on top of the bumps in the Polaris and give it dinner. In Michigan's UP there is a trail that goes north-south (trail 3) into the Keweenaw Peninsula that gets so much traffic it always gets whooped out. The trick with the Polaris Axys and Matryx, while everyone is struggling - hating life - and dropping red diamonds at 50 mph, is to hit it at nearly exactly 82 mph and skip the tops. Speed needs to be adjusted +/- 3-4 MPH based on the size and frequency of bumps but one can dial it in perfect to match the rebound (or at times lack therof) of the Polaris. Overall the MachZ is more comfortable through those conditions at all speeds unless one finds that sweet spot with the Polaris in those sections which when matched up is magical!

    I can't believe you did a segment on controls and did not even mention the POS throttle on the doo. That piece of crap would stop me from buying a Skidoo no matter how good the rest of the sled was. I rode a new turbo Renegade and two Polaris Boosts this winter and coming off my Thundercat I HATED the DOO! I would buy a Boost tho. I dont know why Doo is so stupid but they can not seem to get this right when every car on the market uses electronic throttle control. Their throttle is the SHITS!

Wish it was a couple inches wider .also knees smash into the console a lot had to buy knee pads called sledtred they help but seems like the seat material is to slippery and I slide forward a lot . Love the instrument panel 7s display. Engine is a beast . Trying to talk seat concepts into making a wider heated seat for aftermarket for the maytrix chassis.

    Keep riding the doo then switch to the VR1, you'll see the doo is so much better of a ride, and the seat is so much better. When u ride 150+mi days that VR1 seat is a FAIL! Axys was way better. The shocks on the vr1 are complete garbage. The more my buddys who kept they're vr1s and they ride my Axys Rush , short track, and my XRS renegade, they hate the vr1 more and more. They were sold on the Axys after me pushing them for 6yrs to try one, they bought the vr1s and its been a nightmare. The headlight is also a fail on vr1 vs Axys or the Renegade with 40 Auxbeam leds

    • @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304
      @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an awesome comment thank you! We just did a charity ride for 500 miles in a day and overall 1750 miles for the week and we had the VR1 and MachZ (I need to edit and post the video this weekend). Overall I would say that for 90 percent of those miles the MachZ was the ride to have. On all sweeping trails and straights and bumps hands down the MachZ was more comfortable and put together. That being said on the 10 percent in the tighter turns whomever was riding the Z was working hard relative to the VR1. It is what it is. The MachZ exhibits a bit of understeer in tight turns with powder but hooks up well on groomed trails. When it hooks up the steering is naturally heavier and takes more work. When it understeers one must reduce speed. Adding more skeg or adjusting the suspension can't correct all things as then one would be lifting skis. Stock the front end isn't bad I will be dialing it in better but in the tight stuff the VR1 will easily walk if not run away depending on effort. Now I say all that to get to the 90% where the Mach shines. More Power, More Comfortable, better seat and better suspension, I felt safer (less twitchy) at high speeds on the Mach, better fuel economy, etc....the list will be something. Thanks for the comments we were big Axys fans as well. Also looks like Skidoo will also fix their light issues for 2023 although we struggled to get the Vr1 dialed in. Cheers

    You guys were cheap with the videos this year 😂😂I just snowchecked the boost turbo VR1 👍 I would probably have ordered the ski Doo four stroke but the fun Factor"Polaris" and " Two stroke" is just way too important in this sport!! I'm an older rider and I still cannot see myself going corner to corner on a 4 stroke and getting the joy of riding like a higher horsepower 2 stroke!! There just isn't a comparison as far as fun,lightness,and excitement of a two stroke trail ripper!! Even the guys on Sleddadiczz agree and there long distance riders as well,they have a mach z in their fleet too...

      Thanks for the question. I think it would be a better comparison 137 vs 137 but we bought the 129s and really like them. In the tight trails the 129 excel over the 137 and you don't give up anything except for some off trail ability. We are rarely off trail so the 129 was the right fit. On the Mach Z I don't think the track could be any shorter it needs the contact patch to get the power tom the ground.

    • @kwmiked
      @kwmiked 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      129 or 137, the Shocks are HORRIBLE on the VR1 , even the new XCR , Walker Evans and Polaris are so out to lunch on spring rate and valving, the Floor model Maytrx sleds with the cheap FOX shocks ride better then the snowcheck sleds! Sad! I'm done with Polaris snowcheck until they offer a better shock package and not Walker Evans

    • @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304
      @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kwmiked Mike you are 100 percent correct on this. At best the suspension from Polaris is mediocre which hasn't been bad for them because 1) most people don't push the limits of the suspension, 2) most don't understand suspension and how to set it up correctly, and 3) the chassis on the Polaris is great and takes up some of the slack of the suspensions lackluster abilities. Speak to any motocross guy and even most of them don't understand the best rebound, preload, and compression but they do know it makes a tremendous difference. For the record I have personally gotten in trouble on a few bumps on the Polaris due to rebound setup (not fast enough for the speed and bumps I hit). For me as well I wish I could quickly change this on the fly as each trail condition has a different need. My thoughts on the MachZ suspension are very good. Video coming within a week but that thing rebounds faster, has a progressive electronically controlled rate (bottomed it once in 1750 miles after trying my heart out) and a few different modes. The sled was cushy (I don't like the thought of a mushy cushy sled but it was in the first 1-2 inches of travel) and then was able to step it up with good compression resistance and near perfect rebound. Thanks for the comment!

      This is a great comment and suggestion thank you. We ran Woodys Navigators on the Polaris machines that helped considerably with skeg wear and improved the steering. Our plan is to ride a week with the SkiDoo stock to see if its good/bad or what she may need. If the steering is heavy after adjusting to it we will be getting the snow trackers. • @kwmiked
      @kwmiked 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the Polaris u need to shim skis if u already didn't. That'll stop the wear in the front of the Carbide and make it bite in the center of Carbide under the spindle where it should. Even shim the doo. Bergstrom makes a shim and skisaver kit that basically stops any darting. Also if u are darting and steering is heavy, add a few turns of preload to the front shock springs. U don't want the Aarms under level when sitting on sled.

    • @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304
      @pttsbrghsnwfckrs2304  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kwmiked Excellent feedback!! We had not yet shimmed the front end on the Polaris (legitimate shame on us) but we did just try another low cost "helper". We have been running the Woodys navigators in front of the skegs which helped significantly. This trip we trialed the Stud Boy shapers and the results look very promising. That being said you are correct there is no substitute for proper geometry on those front skis. On the pre-load I opened up the preload a bit on purpose when I got the sled to get a little better grab and have it setup fairly well. Not getting darting or ski lift out of corners so it feels good and exhibits neutral corner feel...that being said I do like a little float (tiny understeer) in the front on turns just haven't tried with this machine. The Polaris has a lack of adjustability in the shocks (rebound) which is annoying for a machine this expensive and the semi-active Mach Z responds much better in this area for sure. Thank you for the note we have more work to do on our end!

      I think the Skidoo is a better sled for the very great majority of the sled market for what people are really “doo-ing” (lol) on the majority of trails. One can’t deny the muscle of the turbo 900 and the suspension and overall ease of use (and expected reliability) of the SkiDoo - not to mention the better fuel economy and lack of 2 stroke oil. It does come at a cost on tight trails so for me I can’t rule it an outright winner. I love those tight trails and absent them, and the gauge on the Polaris, I would be a 100 percent convert but on those days when I need handling or the map I want the Polaris.
