  • Today we are going to take a look at how to fall and take down trees with rope and pulley systems. This will help you down the tree in the right direction so it is easy to cut up and get to processing.

Good video. Like how your starting to make cutting easier with a wedge & maby a stihl 500 fi. I hope you guys get rid of that rope, glad no one was in the BITE of that rope. You couldn't run fast enough to give me free rope to firewood with. I use logging Haywire wire rope and a stout Snatch Block , I can trust ! Put a couple stout ears on side of your trailer 3.5 to 4 ' apart & you can hang 150' of wire rope real easy with a loop on One end and a Bell & a nub on the other, a logging choker. A wedge in that oak you were falling, might have kept that tree from settin down on your saw, & saved some wear and tear on saw. I like your videos, and look forward to watching more. I give you credit for showing this video, because I think you are trying to help other firewooders be good at it. Falling trees & heavy firewood don't care if you make a mistake.

First time on your channel, will go back and watch some of your other videos. I usually watch a lot of the tree channels, yours is the first firewood channel. Came here as I was looking at ways others use ropes to pull over trees. I have that same block you were using, mine makes that same screeching sound. My dad had a firewood business near Topeka, KS. I do mostly tree work in Colorado Mountains, not much Oak up here. Occasionally sell firewood, but not the main business. Great video.

The voiceover sections that explain the action or your thought process are great. Have you considered adding in your thought process on reading the tree? When you'd opt to bore cut to protect against barber chair split, what plan you might have to swing the tree by cut design, wedges or compensatory rope pull etc in order drop it where you want safely? Many of your viewers likely don't have the experience you guys have and could benefit from some views up the tree as you make your plan and explanation along the way. Just a thought for your consideration. Guilty of Treeson has an excellent video on the different type of face notches and when they should be used...for those interested.

If you back up over a stump and the stump is under the rear of the trailer bumper, it can't dump because it's wedged against the stump. It would have nothing to do with how much weight is on the front. FYI for next time, clear a path. Sorry about all your saws going to the ER. (emergency repair). I'm glad you finally used the wedge for it's other common purpose, keeping the top of the log from closing on the bar! Like one of your other commenters wrote, your saw just like your tractor has to be your decision. I really like my blue tractor and my Stihl saw. But, I would never try to push my likes on someone else. Great videos. Thanks for keeping it real.

You really can’t go wrong with either the Stihl 462 or the 500i! So at the tail end of the Back 40 live stream there were some concerns being discussed about behavior at the frenzy, especially around Amanda and little boss man. The truth is, none of us really know one another up close and personal, Especially when it comes to handling alcohol. Dan and Amanda are showing a lotta hospitality here and sometimes you put booze in the wrong person it can get ugly quick. Between you and your brothers and Schieb, you guys need to seriously have Dan and Amanda's back on this every step of the way. If someone needs to leave because they're showing their ass, you guys can't just let Dan go it alone. Put the problem to bed and continue having a good time by the fire, little boss man doesn't need to see any of it, none of them do. It seems almost silly for me to say all this but I've seen it time and again throughout my life, especially with people you don't really know.
Great job as always, did you break the saw permanently or is there a fix?
