I still love how Weird Al called out Kid Rock's video by telling his fans "As much as I know you love my parody videos, I did not make the Kid Rock video". Damned by faint praise.

This reminds me of the boomers at some protest, I think in Washington. In a complete lack of media critique (and self-awareness) they were blasting Killing in the Name by Rage Against The Machine dancing in support of Donald Trump and waving thin blue line flags. Literally raging on behalf of the machine. The song is explicitly anti-police.

Yeah I feel like that's a common thread among conservatives, especially the older ones... Getting behind a certain song that they don't understand whatsoever, and is in fact against their beliefs in every way. Another great example is all the highly religious/Christian people who loved that "Take Me to Church" song because all they heard was "Take Me to Church," while completely ignoring all of the other lyrics which are definitely not pro-christian, pro-religion, or pro-church. In fact, the song is the exact opposite of that.

Their favorite hobby is pretending that the whole world is against them for being “against the status quo” when everything about them and how they tend to live their lives upholds the status quo.
The way they react to the slightest bit of change or progress that benefits marginalized groups is insane. They would be perfectly fine with the government persecuting the people they don’t like. That’s why they screamed about their lack of freedoms during covid lockdowns but shrug their shoulders when people bring up all of the books being banned in florida because that’s different, it’s to “protect the children”.
Protecting kids from misogyny, racism, homophobia, etc…too much government control but protecting them from the word “gay”?

The truth is we vastly out number them and they know that. We are more educated. We are more caring and the vast majority of the rest of the world is on our side. Beau of the Fifth Column said something that really stuck with me. I'll be paraphrasing because my memory isn't exact. But he was talking about conservatism and progressivism and the futility of one side. Conservatives seek to conserve an ideological dogma from the past and refuse to move in to the future. Progressives only want progress. To keep pushing forward to a better place in society for all. Conserving the past is futile essentially because nothing can stop progress. They are fighting a losing battle and that's just reality. I don't think we should expect that old way to just die silently in the night though.

That's part of why they're fighting so hard now, because even the dimmest of them understands this on some level. That also means its up to the rest of us (especially those of us who aren't marginalized ourselves but are allies of those who are, since we're most likely to be listened to by many) to keep pushing back, keep fighting harder, and to not rest on any laurels.

Kid Rock isn't SoAD or Deftones, that people don't even really want to put together with the rest of the Nu-Metal scene.

Kid Rock isn't Slipknot, which still has somewhat of a public relevance thanks to a die-hard fanbase.

You hit the nail on the head with the social media benefitting The Right. I'm a Leftist on Facebook sharing Bernie's posts, but constantly get Right-Wing pages suggested. Like sure, Facebook. I'm a Bernie Sanders supporter but pages called "Stop Commie Scum" would definitely interest me.

Your videos are so thoughtful and well researched. You have a way of taking what I've been thinking, but have had trouble expressing, painting the picture and then taking it a step further. Bravo

My parents would play his music literally every day in the car when I was a child. Telling it is that I don’t remember a single word of it, or even a tune. In fact, the only song I remember vaguely is the one where he speaks absolute gibberish nonsense (That doesn’t narrow it down, I know)

For anyone that wants to see Kid Rock being dunked on for being a crappy artist, check out Pat Finnerty's "What Makes This Song Stink: Ep. 2"

Great job Leon! I’ve been laughing and cringing at this song since release. I’m glad it inspired this level of analysis from you!
