Yeah I feel like that's a common thread among conservatives, especially the older ones... Another great example is all the highly religious/Christian people who loved that "Take Me to Church" song because all they heard was "Take Me to Church," while completely ignoring all of the other lyrics which are definitely not pro-christian, pro-religion, or pro-church. I’m on the older end of the “millennial” designation (born Jan. 1986), and I don’t even remember hearing about the younger kids in my school getting so-called “participation trophies”. I’m curious as to whether they actually exist. I’ve never even seen a photo of one. I’ve seen political cartoons, memes, and the like. Never anything genuine. I’m not saying they don’t exist, because I’m sure they do. They just don’t seem to be even remotely as common as some people claim. Which is very interesting if you consider that from a psychoanalytical perspective 🤔

The truth is we vastly out number them and they know that. We are more educated. We are more caring and the vast majority of the rest of the world is on our side. But he was talking about conservatism and progressivism and the futility of one side. Conservatives seek to conserve an ideological dogma from the past and refuse to move in to the future. Progressives only want progress. To keep pushing forward to a better place in society for all. Conserving the past is futile essentially because nothing can stop progress. They are fighting a losing battle and that's just reality. I don't think we should expect that old way to just die silently in the night though.

Anyway, he has also repeatedly pointed out that on a long enough time line, the progressive side always wins and the pendulum always swings towards (social) justice. That's part of why they're fighting so hard now, because even the dimmest of them understands this on some level. That also means its up to the rest of us (especially those of us who aren't marginalized ourselves but are allies of those who are, since we're most likely to be listened to by many) to keep pushing back, keep fighting harder, and to not rest on any laurels.

To not be on top by default is terrifying to him.

One has a Black Sabbath shirt on: Black Sabbath put out an official Black Lives Matter shirt during the height of the movement. Another has a Nuclear Assault shirt on. Music is such a powerful tool, one that expresses the emotions of the artist in such a raw, honest way. It's really sad to see an artist like Kid Rock because it just shows how sincere he is about all this. I'm also deeply troubled by the masses of people who find that his music resonates with them. Music reflects life, and I'm sad that this is the life we're living.

Kid Rock is the definition of cringe. He is the most cringe artist in the most cringe genre of music, Nu-Metal (I say this as someone who actually enjoys some Nu-Metal). It’s actually unbelievable that someone can attain such a status.

In the case of Nu-Metal, it's cringe shined up and packaged to every store, commercial and television show in the country. I'd argue that a lot more people heard Kid Rock without ever trying to than Emperor, Burzum or Tourniquet.
Black metal's not-so-good reputation might also come from the heavy gatekeeping that some of the genre's most obsessive "stans" incur on, plus there's a really bad case of reactionary movements taking over the scene (e.g. Asgardsrei Festival, Steelfest Open Air, the Polish and Finnish black metal scenes being infested with NS sympathizers, the whole Norwegian Inner Circle debacle, etc.) As much as I enjoy symphonic and melodic black metal, I can definitely see why most people may have a quite negative perspective about it, aside from its goofy aesthetic or anti-religious sentiments. On the other hand, I enjoy quite a few Christian metal bands, you should definitely give a chance to bands such as Antestor, Crimson Moonlight, Vaakevandring, Drottnar, Saviour Machine and Virgin Black. One thing all these bands have in common is that they're quite subtle about preaching their beliefs in their lyrics, which has allowed them to gain followers from more secular circles.
Right wing commentary that hinges on snowflakes, offended people, and participation trophies is basically just a special case of "hey what's the deal with that airplane food, huh?" Nobody's angry about it, they're just tired of hearing an exhausted non-point that was already boring 30 years ago.

As someone who's never heard of this artist "Kid Rock", I assumed the subject of the video would be how capitalists commodity the aesthetics of "raging against the machine" by creating a fandom that relies on constant consumption of products to belongs to that crowd. I.e: being a fan of a punk rock band would require buying their music, their merch, and their concert tickets. All of these with capital sponsors, like record companies, clothing manufacturers, and event organizers.

But he was talking about conservatism and progressivism and the futility of one side. Conservatives seek to conserve an ideological dogma from the past and refuse to move in to the future. Progressives only want progress. To keep pushing forward to a better place in society for all. Conserving the past is futile essentially because nothing can stop progress. They are fighting a losing battle and that's just reality. I don't think we should expect that old way to just die silently in the night though.

That also means its up to the rest of us (especially those of us who aren't marginalized ourselves but are allies of those who are, since we're most likely to be listened to by many) to keep pushing back, keep fighting harder, and to not rest on any laurels.

Kid Rock is the definition of cringe. He is the most cringe artist in the most cringe genre of music, Nu-Metal (I say this as someone who actually enjoys some Nu-Metal). It’s actually unbelievable that someone can attain such a status.

@@adamcadle7078 The difference there is that those two genres don't expect people to like what they do unless you're already a part of that scene. In the case of Nu-Metal, it's cringe shined up and packaged to every store, commercial and television show in the country. I'd argue that a lot more people heard Kid Rock without ever trying to than Emperor, Burzum or Tourniquet.
Black metal's not-so-good reputation might also come from the heavy gatekeeping that some of the genre's most obsessive "stans" incur on, plus there's a really bad case of reactionary movements taking over the scene (e.g. Asgardsrei Festival, Steelfest Open Air, the Polish and Finnish black metal scenes being infested with NS sympathizers, the whole Norwegian Inner Circle debacle, etc.) As much as I enjoy symphonic and melodic black metal, I can definitely see why most people may have a quite negative perspective about it, aside from its goofy aesthetic or anti-religious sentiments.
On the other hand, I enjoy quite a few Christian metal bands, you should definitely give a chance to bands such as Antestor, Crimson Moonlight, Vaakevandring, Drottnar, Saviour Machine and Virgin Black. One thing all these bands have in common is that they're quite subtle about preaching their beliefs in their lyrics, which has allowed them to gain followers from more secular circles.
Right wing commentary that hinges on snowflakes, offended people, and participation trophies is basically just a special case of "hey what's the deal with that airplane food, huh?"
Nobody's angry about it, they're just tired of hearing an exhausted non-point that was already boring 30 years ago.

@@renegadecut9875 it does make me feel sad actually because he committed suicide at the age of 36. It didnt have anything to do with his music. He was conservative and we disagreed politically but he was a nice guy and if didnt talk about politics could be friends.

As someone who's never heard of this artist "Kid Rock", I assumed the subject of the video would be how capitalists commodity the aesthetics of "raging against the machine" by creating a fandom that relies on constant consumption of products to belongs to that crowd. I.e: being a fan of a punk rock band would require buying their music, their merch, and their concert tickets.
All of these with capital sponsors, like record companies, clothing manufacturers, and event organizers.

The essence of conservatism is to be constantly offended - anything that disrupts the square, myopic view of history, the world, is waved aside with ignorant contempt. It's not a serious inwardness or reflection, it's a knee-jerk emotional reaction to a changing world, which critically thinkers are keenly aware of. Conservatism is not very self aware and it presents itself as parody, like Kid Rock, who didn't grow up in Detriot, has zero street cred. They're not rebels, they're posers, tools - rage for the machine.
