Gerben Budding (1987) is internationally active as a concert organist and church musician. He is director of music of the Sint-Janskerk in Gouda with its beautiful Moreau organ from 1736 and vesper organist at the Utrecht Domkerk with its famous Bätz organ from 1831.
He received education on the conservatory in Utrecht. There he got his Bachelor and Masters’ degree Organ with improvisation (both summa cum laude), a first-grade qualification as church musician and a Bachelor and Masters’ degree Choir Direction (with honours).
He won the First Prize at the international organ competition ‘Agati-Tronci’ in Pistoia (Italy), the second prize at the international Schnitger competition in Alkmaar, the Litaize Award at the international César Franck competition in Haarlem and the Public Award at the improvisation competition in Dudelange (Luxemburg).

Gerben Budding (1987) ist international als Konzertorganist und Kirchenmusiker tätig. Er ist Hoforganist der Goudaer Sint-Janskerk und bespielt dort die wunderschöne Moreau-Orgel aus dem Jahre 1736. Als Vesperorganist ist er darüber hinaus mit der Utrechter Domkerk mit der berühmten Bätz-Orgel aus dem Jahre 1831 verbunden.
Seine Ausbildung absolvierte er am Utrechter Konservatorium. Dort erhielt er einen Bachelor- und Mastergrad im Bereich Orgel mit Improvisation (beide summa cum laude), eine Zulassung ersten Grades als Kirchenmusiker und einen Bachelor- und Mastergrad im Bereich Chorleitung (mit Auszeichnung).
Er gewann den ersten Preis des internationalen Orgel Orgelwettbewerbs „Agati-Tronci“’ in Pistoia (Italien), den zweiten Preis des Internationalen Schnitgerwettbewerbs in Alkmaar, den Litaize-Preis auf dem Internationalen César Franck- Wettbewerb in Haarlem und den Publikumspreis des Improvisationswettbewerbs in Düdelingen (Luxemburg).

Il joue par ailleurs les vêpres à la cathédrale d’Utrecht qui contient le célèbre grand orgue Bätz de 1831.
Gerben a suivi sa formation au conservatoire d’Utrecht. Il y a obtenu un Bachelor et un Master en Improvisation à l’Orgue (avec mention summa cum laude), une qualification d’enseignement de premier cycle en tant que musicien d’église et un Bachelor et un Master en direction de chœur (avec distinction).
Il a remporté le premier prix au concours international d’orgue ‘Agati-Tronci’ à Pistoia (Italie), le second prix au concours international Schnitger à Alkmaar, le prix Litaize au Concours International César Franck à Haarlem et le prix du public au concours d’improvisation de Dudelange (Luxembourg).

Zijn opleiding ontving hij aan het Utrechtse conservatorium. Daar behaalde hij een Bachelor- en Mastergraad Orgel met Improvisatie (beide summa cum laude), een eerstegraads bevoegdheid als Kerkmusicus en een Bachelor- en Mastergraad Koordirectie (met onderscheiding).

Bravo! This approach nailed it! ..a hsroic large-ish organ, or else the piece will not assert itself sufficiently. Absolute clarity with the induvidual voices as if this were writing by J.S Bach. Clear delineation of both the overall sections and the subsections with those larger ones. The player must understand and internalize the creation of the new and highly apropos to our times ""Mathis der Maler" mythology several mid/late composers sought to bring forth faced with literal and rampant obliteration of priceless architecture, music, instruments, works of viaual and plastic arts, etc. The three main proponents of Matthias Grünewald as Visionary, without which vision "the people perish" (Psalm 29, I think), were: Paul Hindemith, Johann Nepomuk David in an astonishing tour de force again fir organ, and here Hans-Friedrich Micheelsen. Finally, a visit to the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar to contemplate the 3-fold Issenheimer Altarpiece by Grünewald is a stop rhat should not be .missed. No one leaves that space dedicated to the work unmoved.
But in the end it is oyr organist's understanding, love, and joyful commitment to an extraordinary moment in music that made it hard for me to choose between shouting Alleluia or bowing my head in a humbled but extatic "Amen."
Any chance we get the equally marvelous Canzona and THAT Fuge ...to complete M'a musucal triptyque?? It'd be an important, also taxing labor of love. But it would serve to make this important work known after thung fell rather silent for decades un the casw or German composers active during the daekest time in European history.
Thank you all who did our Dithmarschen, freedom-loving Hans-F proud! And for doung my own American soul good as absurd, crazy things come to light not just every day, but every hour.
