Knulli already has the patch and let me tell you it's a huge improvement. You can play with the og sticks and it's fairly decent, but it's advisable to get better sticks and replace the stock ones to get an even better experience. I installed hall effect sticks in mine after installing the patch and I've been able to play Nintendo 64 games with no issues at all since
Thanks Vlad appreciate this video for the 35XXH. I have a collection of handhelds, and I have to say the 35XXH is one of my favorites. I have the SP and appreciate the nostalgia but i enjoy the H more. The stereo speakers, dual sticks to maximize the use/potential of the H700 chipset, the portability of the device, wifi, Bluetooth and the great buttons is what makes me come back to it. Its the jack of all trades compared to the other H700s. The SP without sticks, yes you can still play N64, DC, and PSP but the setup for it is not great (clicking power button to activate the joystick on D-pad). The battery is not a problem considering there are replacements available and the handheld itself is very affordable. I thought about picking up a 28xx for pocketability, but then realized the 35XXH is perfectly fine for this as well.
It may not be the newest shiniest thing on the block, but the RG35XX H is still my favorite retro handheld and the one I use every day. It's just the right size to carry around in my pocket without feeling compromised in terms of features or ergonomics. I have been contemplating getting an RG40XX H for the bigger screen and stacked shoulder buttons, but between the back getting hot, the less precise D-pad, and the Select & Start buttons being moved down to the lower right where they're harder to reach I've just stuck with the RG35XX H. It's my buddy and with Knulli it already does just about everything I want it to do =)
Thats the part that I get lost on honestly.... It sounds so silly but I spent all of my youth wanting micro computers, devices, gaming machines, etc. that would give me the immersion i felt with devices from my childhood. 35xxH is a perfect example. Because of the adoption of a common chipset, it does feel like we finally have the variety of formfactor to satisfy more than me. I personally think the magic in this device "family" is the ability to get a device in a person's hand cheaply and make it a device that actually is multimedia. Now that is a stretch, but you can game, listen, watch, and read on stock os. They keep it advancing as well. Nerd, I hope your rise is meteoric. This was an excellent thought provoking video.

I've had a RG35XXH for around a month and I'm very happy with it. I upgraded the MicroSD cards and added lots more games. It's pretty amazing for only £35. I just sent one to a friend in Scotland today (a nice surprise in the mail for him). I still like my Game Boy Pocket but I've been using the RG35XXH on trains, in the dentist waiting room... which, realistically is what this thing is does best. it serves its purpose.

For me the H is my favourite device because of it's perfect size and pocket factor. I never leave the house without it wich I could not do with other bigger devices. I only bring my Switch with me if we go for a 3 day trip (minimum) and still I barely use it. The H is perfect for short pickup and play sessions, it's battery last for days, it's light and very comfortable (for me) to hold. It's my device of the year!
I have one. Only got it a couple of weeks ago. Despite the other newer options I went with it as it ticked all the boxes AND was only about £35. A bargain for everything it gives, and for me an ideal entry into Retro Gaming before I think about spending more! Soooo happy with it!!
The H and the Plus model were my entry points into the retrohand held community. I will never forget how blown away I was when I first got my hands in this products. They have given me solid entertainment for the past 8 months. I finally decided to try something new, so I bought a Retroid Pocket 4 pro. I haven’t touched my little handheld since that one arrived. But I have come to appreciate how light they felt and how easy they were to carry just about anywhere. I’m sure at some point I’ll come back to them and enjoy just how convenient they are.
I've had about 10 other handhelds including other XX devices and even more powerful Android devices. But this is the one I always bring with me. 35xxh is the budget GOAT.

I barely lost 5% battery since! !!! :D Life has me busy with work at the moment and I don't commute and basically entertain myself with youtube more than with playing games ... time to tinker a bit, you are correct, and thanks for the inspiration fellow NERD!!! :D
The H was the first retro handheld I bought, to complement my chunky Steamdeck. Then I got Trimui Smart pro, the build quality and controls of the Anbernic device was way better, came flawless, just the screen too small. I keep coming back to it to play games like Celeste, controls and speakers are great for it, the game becomes experience not just time waster. The kids are also enjoying it as TV console with 2 Alixpress crapy controllers 😂 They've added the Yabasanshiro emulator with the latest update but haven't tested yet, so Anbernic have definitely not forgotten about it😊
That’s a false misconception, humans don’t have the memory of a goldfish, humans have the attention span of a goldfish. And this is very commonly misconstrued as memory.
I own several handhelds, and the 35XX-H is one of the all-around best. It's not the greatest at anything, but has no glaring weaknesses. Good price to performance ratio.
Glad I recently got one and that there's still love being shown for the device. This will be my second one after the Miyoo mini+. Great video my dear nerd!
RG35XXH is simply incredible for the price, i bought just to play great ports like doom3, HL, HL2, Return to castel wolf., gta vc, quake1,2 etc. If you think about is just incredible.
What you’re saying is true and it’s why I’ve only bought the one device from Anbernic. It’s hard to buy another with them pumping them out so fast. Thinking the RP5 will be the next one instead.
I own the RG35XX Plus and I'm very happy with it: it's well designed, sturdy and brings me a Game Boy retrofeeling when playing that cannot be compared to anything else. Not sure how about the utility of having stickers on the H model considering the platforms this range of handhelds emulates well don't need them at all. The H has stereo speakers (the Plus is mono) but the Plus one faces front and sounds loud while the speakers on the H are on the bottom of the device.. and the battery of the Plus model is easily replaceable. Also the screen feels bigger on the Plus due to the design despite they both have the same size :S
I do have this but I need to follow up and see what mods and tweaks exist. I had a Miyoo Mini + but it was too small for my hands. It was a great device though.
I have been using the RG35XX H for a short time and I have to say it is quite an impressive little device. Still working things out but am pretty happy with it overall.
As much as I'd appreciate the bigger screen on the 4xxH, I'm still sticking to the 35xxH for a long while, it works well and looks great in it's transparent shell. Hopefully even better software from the community comes along the way.
I even stopped caring between placing my order and receiving it. Sold it as new, at a modest profit too. It's hard to care about any RGH at the moment because a better one is always just a few weeks away. The 40xx is better than the 35xx in every way. Once you've had bigger, you never want to go back to 3.5". That's what she said, yes. The RP5 seems nice, but you just know a plus or pro model with more ram is just around the corner...Trying very hard to resist and just play actual games on my Trimui smart pro (it plays chains of olympus at 30 fps!) and my steam deck for heavier shit.
I'm a little late to the party for this video but unfortunately my 35xx h just developed more and more problems over time. The biggest one is my dpad has had ghost inputs for a while now. No matter what I do, clean it inside and out, rotate the membranes, remap controls, nothing helps it. Basically ruins it for me since gaming is a pain now. Im pretty sure I'm going to get the retroid pocket mini and hopefully be satisfied for a while
I was in loved with 35xx H, but it needed some changes when it had released. It's a lovely handheld, but for me it's done. I choose 40xx H for the improvements.
Anbernic is literally one of the prime examples of promoting electronic waste.....they release a new device like every two to four months, i dont even know how that is economically sustainable, you think it would cost a fortune releasing 8 to 10 devices a year.....
Indont thunk anyone stipped caring but i do believe one of two things has happened; people got the 35H and have simoly stuck tonit because of the vakue it offers and the sheer amount of games it can play, yes inxluding with sticks. Or, thisnis the handheld that introduced them into the retro handheld scene and ending up buying another more powerful one for the playforms the 35H simply can not do. This is the camp i am in. I got the rp4 pro not long after i purchased the 35H on its release and it us the tipping point that git me to decide that this community is worth apending my time in. Owing a Legion Go i learned that emilation is incredible on it but a whole.setup simply took toi mich space. Now i have 4 retro hamdhelds and my legion go. I have no regrets and my 35H is still my pocket device for traveling and work. Specialy waiting dor the new Banana MuOs! Openbor for the win!
The latest Anbernic fw is quality you can play Sega Saturn very well, by the way Anbernic have dropped 72 handhelds in the time it's taken to read my comment. i'm gonna go home and give my Rg35XX H a hug .
I was using Batocera Lite but switched to stock firmware because Batocera Lite hasn't been updated since February, and it has been a great experience so far. Sure, it may not support 200 different systems or have video previews, but it supports the majority of the systems I'd want to play on a daily basis. Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, and N64 are quite impressive. Also, I can transfer files fast with my PC, unlike with Knulli which takes forever and a day over WiFi.
It just takes SOOOO long to load compared to miyoo mini plus. Almost 1 minutes to boot up, to start a game, to exit a game. I spend more time staring at the black screen than playing.
Hey Vlad great video, I think you are right and make some good points, I got a a30 just for joystick, honestly I love the micro size more than I thought, being light and small is great to have in pocket, I’ve bought a couple h700 (rg35xx +, h and sp) the sp brings back those gba memories so I been using it a lot lately playing ff6 for gba. But the 35xx h is my favorite model, that horizontal design and joysticks is hard to beat, arcade games are fun on there, playing old snes and gba rpg’s with a joystick is one of the best parts for me
I have one but my dog bit it 😢. I ended up getting the rg28xx afterwards and I’m very happy with the portability but I wish I had network connection and sticks sometimes
I love my 35XXH. My one gripe is that it doesn't have any kind of smart charging. Not fast charging mind you--that would be great but isn't a huge deal. What bugs me is that I can't use the same cord and charge that I use and works fine for everything else I own--my phone, my earbuds, etc. I would gladly buy a 35XXH 2.0 if all they did was fix the terrible charging.
I gotta tell ya, I have the SP, Plus, 28XX and my favorite is still the 38XX-H. I'm getting ready to do the mod to remove the sticks. I only play SNES on-down.
@@VladNerd I know, right? I'm *considering* it... I'm leaning towards doing it, though. If I do, I'll do a community post on my channel on it, show of the poor. lobotomized thing, lol.
But let's be honest here - the RG35XX H has little to no competition when it comes to 4:3 3.5 inch devices. It has a tried and true form factor, excellent CFW support and its price is unbeatable. It's not going away no matter what doomers say. This is a silly and needless discussion.
This video is so over the top oppsite of the one complaining about the battery being over the SoC, it makes me think that the only reason this video exsist is to make sure Anbernic doesn't black ball him from getting review units. I'm likely wrong, but that's how it came off to me. Basiclly "Anbernic, I'm sorry, I was wrong, please don't stop sending me units to review!" is how it felt.
You're wrong. I don't care about Anbernic and they'll never send me review units directly. They only do this with super big channels. I don't imagine them contacting me anytime soon, given how critical I was of them in many of my videos. I do however speak my mind with this channel. It's my responsibility to bring light if there's bad design on a certain handheld, but also to keep the nerds following me in the loop with how my perception changes on that particular matter over time. And in this case, the fact of the matter is that we should definitely change the batteries on these Linux handhelds every 2 years or so anyway, so the battery sitting on the SOC (in hindsight) isn't the end of the world. If you'd watch my old videos, you'd know how much I loved the RG35XX. I did a ton of vids on it. I have a special attachment over this handheld in particular, hence they call for everyone (creators included ideally) to give it more love. :)
Just got mine a week ago. I’m sad I can’t get moonlight to work but I’m very happy with how the dream cast performs. Sega Saturn meh. Audio issues kill a game for me
@@VladNerd yes it does and setting hotline Miamis resolution to 480 is a mistake that almost took out and tried to burn my g.a.e.m.s 400 dollar portable monitor
The question should be, why did everyone forget about the RG351V so quickly. That thing was way more powerful than this one and better in every way, but everyone forgot as soon as the r g35xx came out
Actually.... the RG351V (RK3326 SoC) is 'less' powerful than the RG35XX series of handhelds (H700 SoC). Perhaps you're thinking of the RG353 series (RK3566 SoC) which is more powerful than the RG35XX series, as well as, slightly more powerful than the A133P in the Trimui Smart Pro. "Better in every way" is quite subjective, although the higher price should translate into a bump in build-quality. Otherwise, folks attracted to the RG35XX-H prefer its horizontal form-factor and dual sticks for arcade, dual-shock PS1, N64, DC and PSP. Admittedly, I use a silicon case with finger lanyard to lock-in my grip when gaming on the RG35XX-H. But it remains just as pocketable as my R36S vertical. So I think the RG35XX-H is an instant classic (plastic RG353M) and the best handheld under $45 today.
I bought the h due to being cheap and portable. The cheap price point helps with portability, i.e., not worrying about a case or protector of some sort. But i find myself going to my RP2s, its literally the h on crack. Amd able to play everything the h does better, the stacked shoulders... better, gamecube as well. Also, it's pretty cheap.
The 35XX is perfect... unless your eyes are bad and still need glasses for the 40XX. If 3.5 inches was enough for me anymore I'd have gotten the flipzizzle (35SP).
The RG35XXH was my first emulation handheld since the GP2X in 2005. I love it and it gets a lot of play (currently Sword Of Mana on GBA). I also have the RG556 which I love too but I use that for playstation upwards. However... I have an admission. I've not long ordered a RG40XXH. My son turned 5 yesterday. I've been trying to get him into retro gaming since he loves Super Mario. I'm hoping the larger screen and the RGB lit sticks will appease the ADHD part of his brain so the autistic part can enjoy all the gaming goodness that my autistic brain has enjoyed since the 80s 😂. However if it fails to pry him away from Roblox/Minecraft, I'm not going to lie; that bad boy is going to get loaded with some custom firmware and added to my slowly growing collection.
@@ryecatcher25 I’ve seen a few videos about port master but it was for different os. I would assume you just pop the drive in and move them to the same location in Roms as the other ones
@@do.g5260 well i k ow you need to download the sceipts from portmaster. I just wish spmeone would make a video on how to do it on stock. I have the games but dont have several free hours to try and get tmnt running on the rg3xxh.
I spent about 2 months on the SBC gaming reddit learning everything I could about handhelds. it was between the H and the MM+, I went with the MM+ just for simplicity and that was maybe 4 months ago. First week I modded it and installed several thousand roms and rom hacks. I've played it maybe 5 times and it's lived in my backpack since. If I had gotten an H it wouldn't have been any different. Part of me wants a bigger screen but at some point i'd rather just play my Deck. These devices cool but they aren't important. They are too complicated to give to kids or sub-casuals who would enjoy the nostalgia factor, and they are not deep or comfortable enough for hardcore emulation fans to take all that seriously other than a short deep dive and hundred or so bucks worth of shopping. Not trying to push the e-waste narrative because there's way worse ewaste shit out there, but these devices really are not that important other than for hype and collecting.
i have one already mainly because of recommendations of channels like yours, and i love it, i just need a tutorial o portmaster now, because i wanna run megaman X8 demake and it just boots me out of the game every time
I have one. And I will sell it. It is way too small for my needs. And the hardware isn't as powerful as I need it for the games I wanna play. I found peace with my Gamesir G8 Plus and my S24 Ultra. 😊
Im thinking of getting an Anbernic Arc, another miyoo mini V4 and a R36S. After that its RG35XXH, a RP2S and a Pc handheld, (steam deck, rog ally or lenovo legion) Then i wait for Anbernic to make a DS handheld :)
I must admit that I've exchanged my faithful RG35XX H for TrimUI Smart Pro, as my main handheld, basically because of a bigger screen in the latter. But I will never get rid of my RG35XX H since it's such a great piece of device. I use it as a stationary console connected to my TV for good. It works so well! P.S. Sorry it took me so long to watch this video. I've had a lot on my mind lately.
Can anyone point me to a video on how to install portmaster games on stock 1.14? The card i reciwved already had stardew valley and gta3 on it but i need yo know how to manually install other games like tmnt?. Thank you.
I live in China. I can buy these devices on offical Taoboa shops (China Amazon, no its not Aliexpress....) They make so many devices, is because of tic tock and you guys on youtube always reviewing them.... If ya'll would stop complaining, aka giving them no videos, they would have no will to make new devices. No one in China knows about them.... I've asked hundreds of people. If you see the reviews on Taobao, it's very few. YOU SOCIAL MEDIA PEOPLE ARE WHY THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE MANY DEVICES.
I know about Taobao (one of my closest friends moved to China and made a family there for himself). Wish we had access to it from the outside, but since we don't, AE is the best we have (it's basically Taobao with way higher profit margins because it's aimed at the global market). I'm surprised retro handhelds aren't popular in China, though. I would've thought that nostalgia is something all people feel globally. :)
Nah, this video is clickbait. 35XX H is still super popular and a great value. Yes, it's true there is a lot of competition but the H700 SOC platform has been really useful.
The RG351M was better in every way but Noone talked about it after the rg35xxh came out. Even if price were a factor, half of these youtubers own most devices but they still prefer the cheaper one? Hard to believe. Imo, the rg35xx should have never received the attention it did.
I think the handheld does a good job for the money, but there is also the Trimui Smart Pro and with the CFW available for it... for similar money... it's just a better handheld I'm afraid.
No one stopped caring, but the 40xx H is SO much better that this one has become irrelevant. The screen size and much much more brightness and saturation changes everything.

My only question is… What’s now the best OS for the XX-H?
MuOS or Knulli.
Both have their ups and downs, I personally prefer MuOS
Love my 35xxh. Got a 3d printed grip for the 35xxh, and it makes it very comfortable.
I'm super happy with mine. I'll probably use it until a similar form factor handheld that can flawlessly handle PS Vita and GameCube games comes out.
The rg35xxh is still my favorite handheld to play of the 4 I have. I do have my eye on the cube, but hard to swallow the price.

My first and only purchase with the H700 chip lol great little on the go device, got another for my 10 yr old Spider- Man fan nephew and he loves it.
@@Cyko.. , MUos is probably the best stock FW but it just feels like it's missing something, Knulli is good but has the battery drain problem.
@@jasonshiers5771 I saw someone comment that Knulli wasn't saving their RetroArch settings. I don't have this issue with stock.
It just takes SOOOO long to load compared to miyoo mini plus. Almost 1 minutes to boot up, to start a game, to exit a game. I spend more time staring at the black screen than playing.
but do the sticks actually work or do they just snap to cardinal directions?
They snap to Cardinal directions, unfortunately. :(
Hey Vlad great video, I think you are right and make some good points, I got a a30 just for joystick, honestly I love the micro size more than I thought, being light and small is great to have in pocket, I’ve bought a couple h700 (rg35xx +, h and sp) the sp brings back those gba memories so I been using it a lot lately playing ff6 for gba. But the 35xx h is my favorite model, that horizontal design and joysticks is hard to beat, arcade games are fun on there, playing old snes and gba rpg’s with a joystick is one of the best parts for me
Get out of my head, you wizard! I feel exactly the same with basically that you said
I'm just waiting for a garlic os update so I can actually use mine.
Now you feel as we RG35XX Plus owners feel for a while, abandoned 😂
Nooooooooooooo....
Let me catch my breath for a second.
Noooooooooo! :(
Just kidding, whatever makes you enjoy it more, my guy!
Audio issues kill a game for me
Moonlight works like a charm in the latest muOS version. I'd give it a go. :)
@@VladNerd can you share the custom theme maker? You mentioned you didn’t want it. I can’t find it after multiple downloads
@@VladNerd yes it does and setting hotline Miamis resolution to 480 is a mistake that almost took out and tried to burn my g.a.e.m.s 400 dollar portable monitor
It seems that if I want to do that I need to unplug the power from my monitor
It's in my pocket right now. Testing psp games right now. Still my favorite, all others are in their cases put away.
The question should be, why did everyone forget about the RG351V so quickly. That thing was way more powerful than this one and better in every way, but everyone forgot as soon as the r
g35xx came out
cuz it was way more expensive?
Price.
Price and the fact that they're two completely different form factors. A lot of people simply prefer a horizontal layout.
I finished setting mine up so I don't use it anymore. 😊
This is da way. 😄
That technology is three months old. Only suckers buy out-of-date machines. Uh, you're not a sucker, are you, sir?
Do you think you will go back to redo the mini battle for the recent magic xu mini m?
I updated to 1.1.6 then used a “modified version” brought me back to 1.1.4 but I still have the Saturn
I am on 1.14. Just got mine. Any videos on how to manuallly add portmaster games? Mine came with a few including gta3
I love it but I lost it so I just bought an SP this time round and getting 4 Pro
I would love to know where can we get a 35xxH for 40 dollars 😅
Me still playing my RG351p wishing for custom firmware for my underpowered nugget
Love the rg35xxh, but lacks a better custom firmware as alternative, muos, knulli, etc have to improve
Idk man, muOS has come a pretty long way tbh. Planning on trying Knulli again soon as well, to see how it evolved since I made the vid on it.
@@VladNerd i like muos, its better to play Amiga games on muos than stock, but psp and dreamcast are better on stock, i think.
I use Muos, and it is pretty good. The next Muos version will also have the stick snapping fix that the ambernic software team couldn't fix.
What GTA appears in 3:33 so smooth on H and with 4:3 res?
It's the normal PC old GTA version running through Portmaster. :)
Liked and subscribed, thx m8!
i have one already mainly because of recommendations of channels like yours, and i love it, i just need a tutorial o portmaster now, because i wanna run megaman X8 demake and it just boots me out of the game every time
Still the king
Not me having just bought one like a week ago...
I also got an SP, but I wish I had the H Dpad on it.
After that its RG35XXH, a RP2S and a Pc handheld, (steam deck, rog ally or lenovo legion)
Then i wait for Anbernic to make a DS handheld :)
Lol Vlad TikToker at 4:20 makes me cry laughting
Couldn't even keep the composure myself with that one 😆
What about Vlad Instagram model? 🤔
I never cared… got my 353m, 353p and 353ps to tide me over, plus the rg35xxsp
I have one & i love it!
Can anyone point me to a video on how to install portmaster games on stock 1.14? The card i reciwved already had stardew valley and gta3 on it but i need yo know how to manually install other games like tmnt?. Thank you.
if the price will come down, RG40xxh is much better than rg35xxh.
This is a way better looking device than the RG40xxh in my opinion.
i stopped caring about anbernic devices entirely
tired old resolution using tired old chips
40 dollars is wild for this
i have a rg35xx h and a rg40xx h and i use the rg35xx h more.
Make a video on desktop Linux running on the H , no videos about it on TH-cam
I got the 40XXH
I love my rg35xxh👌💯
I live in China. I can buy these devices on offical Taoboa shops (China Amazon, no its not Aliexpress....) They make so many devices, is because of tic tock and you guys on youtube always reviewing them.... If ya'll would stop complaining, aka giving them no videos, they would have no will to make new devices. No one in China knows about them.... I've asked hundreds of people.
If you see the reviews on Taobao, it's very few. YOU SOCIAL MEDIA PEOPLE ARE WHY THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE MANY DEVICES.
Oh yeah, Toaboa is cheaper than what you pay too.....
Love the AI auto-framing on the Meet 2! Makes everything so much smoother.
Nah, this video is clickbait. 35XX H is still super popular and a great value. Yes, it's true there is a lot of competition but the H700 SOC platform has been really useful.
I'm not sure I'd be subbed if this wasn't your fav handheld also lol
still love the rg35xxh!
Heck yeah, me too!

The RG351M was better in every way but Noone talked about it after the rg35xxh came out. Even if price were a factor, half of these youtubers own most devices but they still prefer the cheaper one? Hard to believe. Imo, the rg35xx should have never received the attention it did.
It's tripple the price... They are trying to be objective. You can get way better hardware for that price.
