I love this band so much. I honestly prefer listening to the demos. I like the more raw underproduced sound. In reference to another comment over here, i definitely wouldn't call it shabby...
I just think the studio version sounds amazing because the demos are just amazing as they are. Also appreciate the studio version cuz I think that's how they initially wanted to sound but couldn't afford it. I really LOVE to hear the demo versions of my favorite artists/album

Pretty cool that they decided to bring back an old song and refine it. So this kind of funky style was in them all along.
