  • In a story that weaves together an Arabian princess, the ancient Egyptians and Donald Trump, technology entrepreneur Angie Judge shares her unique perspective on the intersection of artificial intelligence in museums to democratise curation with data. Take a journey back in time at the history of history itself to see how museums have changed over the ages, a stark look at the perilous state of this sector and a view forward at the forces which are shaping our cultural future.
    Angie Judge is a Kiwi technology entrepreneur revolutionising the museum experience. Her company Dexibit brings artificial intelligence into the world’s cultural institutions and has been recognised as the global leader in data science for the cultural sector. Her passion for history, art and science coupled with computer engineering and analytics inspires her to make data-driven insight accessible to all museums.
    She writes on cultural commercialisation, lectures in machine learning and is a proud supporter of getting girls into STEM careers. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    We need museums for young "art".
    What other people don't see as art , but it is.

    Charging fees in museums cuts out people who have less money, only allowing wealthy people to see "culture" and history. Museums are for the people not the corporations.

      It all so allows those who can afford to contribute more to "buy out" of their responsibility /limit donations to a given ticket price.

    It's one "fell" swoop, as in cutting down with one strong blow. Not one "foul" swoop, which would mean an offensive cut.

    Me gustó la charla, ojalá suban más de este estilo y para los que hacen comentarios irónicos sobre la figura de la mujer, que triste que no entiendan todavía que la inteligencia y la cultura no sabe de diferencias de sexo.

    I thought something innovative like an internet VR museum would be presented...This video doesn't contain information about the future of museum in a big data world; just that Netflix rivals museums.

    • @stefanpeterwolf7458
      @stefanpeterwolf7458 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ??? Do you know what the term "big data" means?

    • @maurokoller3910
      @maurokoller3910 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stefan Peter Wolf
      Its a massive amount of Data. And I dont see her talking about the future, the problems and opportunities that arise with such a massive amount of data about everything.

    • @stefanpeterwolf7458
      @stefanpeterwolf7458 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe you want to watch again and listen to her talking about making use of big data and machine learning to predict success of museum management decisions (and help to make better ones). If you love physical (brick & mortar) museums, she tells you what you can expect and look forward to (visitor role). If you are into computer science, you will know what she is talking about on the technical level. If you're neither, then go google for some VR collections, but they are no closer to a real museum than a picture of a steak on your martphone is to a good barbecue, and will never be.

    She stresses how important museums are, shames everyone for watching too much Netflix, then reveals she founded a company that profits on museum ticket sales? How is this not a huge conflict of interest? This isn't a TEDx talk, it's an advertisement.

    • @stefanpeterwolf7458
      @stefanpeterwolf7458 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So? The majority of TEDx talks promote a research team or a company or an artist, so actually most (alnmost all) of them are advertisements in this sense. As if science and help projects don't need advertising (and money!). Maybe you don't care about the future of museums and how they can get help from science to survive in a world of millennials and gen X. She does and even can make a living of it. More power to her!

      I had someone tell me the X means nothing and put me down - essentially - for thinking it could mean something. This was before I'd ever watched a Ted Talk. As soon as I did, I saw that the X stands for independently organized.
      TL;DR - be considerate of your ignorance as well as others' (everyone doesn't know much about almost everything) and be considerate of people's emotions
