I am honestly wondering the same thing. The only reason I haven’t done this is I know my old gps I used in my truck back in the day wouldn’t turn on when cold.
Great tip. Curious if there’s a way to run these on a non 12v snow bike without turning off with the bike? Would be nice if it had a small battery pack to stay powered on. Gets a bit convoluted to install a battery pack to. There’s tutorials on here about adventure bikers water proofing their Nuvi’s with silicone and successfully splash testing it.
I'm not sure how it would handle the cold but I think a power bank VHB taped to the back of the GPS would work really well! I've actually splash tested all of mine and haven't had any issues either 🤣
Yes this is the trouble I am having too goes into pc mode but if I use the cigarette lighter plug it comes loose while riding and powers down u have any other ideas on older models
There is a seller on eBay that has modified usb cables so it does not go into pc mode. khalidsiddiqi is his seller id and has a few videos on TH-cam on the subject. This is the only way I have gotten it to work on my sled.
Sweet setup and it doesn't break the bank 👊
That's the best part! Thanks!
You’re the man! Thanks for posting.
Yep!
As one of the people asking this question, I thank you so much.
No problem!!!
been using one of those units for over 15 years
Nice!
Nice work SC..best location.
Thanks Jim!
How do I get the snowmobile map on the Garmin?
Where do you get canada and new york?
Are you using 2 sided tape to attach the mount to the machine and the garmin unit?
VHB tape yeah. It's a super strong 2 sided foam tape.
i did this for 45 bucks... thanks for the tips!
$5 dollar GPS? I think VVMAPS went up to $60 for the sled trails didn't it?
🔥
I’m going to do this
Glad to hear it!
How well does this do in the -20+ degree days in Wisconsin?

How does the double sided tape hold up to the cold?
use the same tape on my helmet for my gopro hasn't fallen off in 3 years

When hooking up that power cable does it initially put the nuvi into the PC lync mode?
The older one I had would do that. I think all my new models just turn on as if you hit the power button.

@@Backwoodz71 Can't find do you have a link
Does it show fuel and food stops also?
You should be able to look them up via the search function built into the GPS yes.
How do you power your helmet shield
There was already a port on this sled. On my new sled I attached the wiring that my helmet came with to the battery.
Can you just type an address in and it will take you there just like a car?
