  • Sarma is an absolute favorite of all generations and one of the most traditional comfort foods in Croatia that gather us all around the table during the winter. This is an old and very traditional recipe from my grandma.
    The meat filling, which usually consists of pork and beef, is spiced with some garlic, hot and sweet paprika, and wrapped in the leaves of brined cabbage leaves, which gives this dish a somewhat umami flavor.
    Serve it with some good mashed potatoes or just a homemade, freshly baked bread.

    Hi, how much water do we put into the cabbage roll mix and how much into the sauce?

      Hi, you can add 2 tablespoons of sparkling water to the meat mixture to make it a bit more tender, but it's not strictly necessary. It's definitely optional. Regarding cooking liquid, I never measure it, I just put enough water to make sure all cabbage rolls are well submerged. Hope it helps!
