    If your still having evap codes that would be the reason for any weird idling. I had a massive evap leak code awhile ago and my idle was super choppy until i found the leak and fixed it. But the truck sounds great man!

    For the plastics you can also use a heat gun. It’ll turn them back to new. Takes a bit longer than spray paint but definitely worth it.

    I'm getting my '04 back from the mechanic with a 3.5L bore and I want to clean up the body overall, this will for sure help.

      Nice! Any other changes needed for the added displacement MAF or,injectors, etc? What made you decide to go with the over-bore? Did it need engine work already?

      How much power/torque did you gain? Was it worth doing? How much did it cost?

    That half n half boiled linseed/turpentine trick is amazing if you aren’t interested in painting. The plastics, trim and mirrors on my ‘00 look brand new along with the painted front bumper. Only lasts about 3 months but super easy. The plastic around my headlights were too far gone with sun/heat damage but it did darken them enough to not look so hideous.

      @XterraRob  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip. Ive never tried it myself but have heard good things about it. The plastics sure do look bad on these old xterras.

    Hey Rob! just wondering if the side trim parts on the doors are held on by adhesive or trim plugs. thanks for your input!

    • @XterraRob
      @XterraRob  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty sure it's adhesive. Not all xterras come with the side trim...and I'm pretty sure Nissan wouldn't make a separate door with holes in it just for the trim.

    Can you recommend a specific brand and color of product you use to spray on?

    • @XterraRob
      @XterraRob  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personal preference. I used rustoleum spray on bed liner. It has a gritty texture. If you want a flat matte look, you can find a duplicolor bumper paint in dark grey or black. Or plasti-dip is a rubberized spray. Krylon fusion is a spray paint designed for plastics that has many colors. All can be found at a lowes or home depot type store.

    Do you know if the metal crossmember you mentioned at 5:57 is okay to take off? I already took off the plastic lower bumper guard that connected to it since it was cut up and ugly. But I tried taking that metal crossmember off earlier with just a basic socket wrench and one of the bolts just refused to come off. Don’t know if it’s rusted on or what…

    • @XterraRob
      @XterraRob  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It ties the front frame rails together so it's good to have it. I took mine off but my steel bumper mounts there to still connect the two. It realistically wouldn't matter a whole lot...but why do you want to remove the bar?

    • @devenpapineau6261
      @devenpapineau6261 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@XterraRob oh thanks for replying so quickly! 😅 it’s my stepdad’s old car that he gave to me, and it wasn’t in the greatest condition so there’s a lot of weird cosmetic issues like minor bumper pieces missing and metal brackets that don’t connect to anything. So I’m just trying to strip it of any rusty old parts that serve no use on it as I’m in the process of replacing a good portion of the xterra.
      Is it dangerous to remove the crossmember then? Or is it just safer to keep it on…?

    • @XterraRob
      @XterraRob  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably not really a safety thing...but you'd be more likely to bend frame rails in a front end collision. It would strengthen that area of the frame some.

      @@XterraRob oh ok I see. I plan on replacing the front bumper with one from coastal off-road. Would I need to remove that crossmember once I install it since you said yours takes the role of being the connector in that case?

      Custom fabricator built the front. I built the rear with a harbor freight welder. Local Fab shops are the way to go. Browse craigs list or local off road clubs and forums for local recommendations.
