This is a side of Japan that very few of us will ever be lucky enough to see in person. Thank you so much for sharing and please keep it up! Sending you love from the sun shine state of Florida!
I was hoping you could interview a resident there. I'm curious, before the tunnel, how did they get the goods and services they needed? If they were cut off from the rest of their surroundings, do they have a different accent or vocabulary? Do they have any other unique customs beyond bear gallbladders? Are they connected to the modern world in every other way? What did they do for hospitals? Do they keep animals? Do they have access to fishing? I love your content because it's the first time I am able to see the unusual, lesser-known parts of everyday Japan. I would love to hear more about the different aspects of life in these unique locations. Your ability to bring such amazing insights to the English-speaking world, not through the interaction of a foreigner, but as a Japanese person interacting with fellow citizens, is priceless!
chatgpt said - The hidden town in Akita, Japan, you’re referring to might be Kamikoani Village. This village is known for its remoteness and traditional way of life. Here are answers to your questions based on historical and cultural context: 1. **Goods and Services Before the Tunnel**: Before the tunnel was built, residents of such remote villages typically relied on mountain paths and narrow roads to connect with nearby towns. They used horses and later, motor vehicles, to transport goods. During winter, when roads were often impassable due to heavy snow, villagers relied on stockpiling supplies and self-sufficiency. Barter systems and community cooperation were also essential. 2. **Accent or Vocabulary**: Remote villages often develop distinct dialects and vocabulary due to isolation. Kamikoani and similar villages likely have unique linguistic features compared to standard Japanese. These differences can include specific terms, pronunciation variations, and idiomatic expressions. 3. **Unique Customs**: Beyond traditional practices like hunting for bear gallbladders, remote villages in Akita may have unique customs related to festivals, food preservation, and seasonal activities. For example, they might have distinctive rituals for agricultural festivals or unique methods of preserving food through fermentation. 4. **Connection to the Modern World**: Despite their remoteness, villages like Kamikoani are increasingly connected to the modern world. Internet access, satellite communication, and improved transportation infrastructure have made it easier for residents to stay connected. However, cultural preservation efforts ensure that traditional practices and knowledge are maintained. 5. **Hospitals**: In the past, medical services in remote villages were limited. Residents relied on traditional medicine and local healers. For serious medical needs, they had to travel to larger towns or cities, which could be challenging, especially in bad weather. Nowadays, mobile clinics and improved transportation have made healthcare more accessible. 6. **Keeping Animals**: Yes, villagers often keep animals such as chickens, pigs, and cattle. These animals are crucial for their livelihood, providing meat, eggs, milk, and labor for farming. 7. **Fishing Access**: If the village is near a river or lake, fishing would be an essential part of their diet and culture. Freshwater fish would complement their agricultural produce and hunting efforts. In areas further from water bodies, fishing might be less common, with more reliance on hunting and farming. Overall, while modernization has reached many remote areas, the blend of old and new creates a unique cultural tapestry in villages like Kamikoani.
So cool, getting a "behind the scenes" look at Japan, seeing sides of daily life outsiders rarely get to glimpse. Thank you for taking us along, Robin. It would be so cool if some day you could buy a house in a place like this that you can fix up, so you can have your own quiet little spot to go home to when you get weary of traveling for a while. If you could save up and buy it outright, and install a solar system, you could have a dependable home base for very low monthly recurring cost. Or maybe that just me, projecting my dreams onto you. Anyway, good luck.
That tunnel reminds me of the story "The Mysterious Tunnel" by Junji Ito. I wonder if that tunnel inspired him to write the story. Fun adventure, thank you Robin!
This is the content I wanna see, explore random areas, meet locals, show us the country of japan, tell us it's history. You have the ability to connect everything for us because you can speak english. Keep it up!
You're channel has given me hope I'm currently doing my last year of school and my parents told me once I'm done with school I'll be kicked out of the house and be homeless and probably just unalive but after watching you're videos It has made not be afraid of bieng homeless and I think I might grind it out up until I'm stable
Small gardens and lots of trees reminded me of small town northern Canada before the 1990s which often had a township/community hall. But this hidden village was great journey with very beautiful landscape!
I love contents like this Travelling is expensive but watching vlogs like this takes me to places I've never been. More walk tours, please.. One of my dream countries to visit is Japan.
Sugoii 😮 ✨ So pretty! Such a beautiful place Akita is ❤ You're doing an amazing job, loved this video so much 😍 You're so Brave!! Thank you for the efforts you put in this video! Please so keep posting this kind of videos 🙇🏻♀️ Gambarimasuu ✨
Where I grew up in rural Canada, sometimes the school in our village would tell the children to only play in front of the school for the day, because a bear had been spotted in the hills behind the school. Our black bears are small and timid, so nobody was too worried about it!
This video was amazing, you should do more videos like this where you travel to these places and try to give a little history on the place. Your channel is gunna blow up your one of my favorite channels now.
That was one stunning view when you got out of that tunnel. I guess they wanted the ambulance and caregivers to have easier access. I think this village will have a lot of old people and that's why the tunnel. I guess. Thus in this hidden village, there wasn't anything like a small cafe or pub or something like that? Did it have a small temple? Just trying to see similarities with how the old villages were in the old days in my country. Every village had a small church and a small pub or cafe next to it. So I wonder if it's the same with old Japanese villages. Especially this one, since it's so hidden and all.
🌴Hey Robin , what a great little village ,so the tunnel is the only way in or out , it’s hard to believe that all the construction materials needed to build the village came through the tunnel you would think that they would of made the tunnel big enough for a large truck to be able to go through it 🤔? Thanks for taking us along 👍🏼🛹
Awe yeah this is the content I love: Little secret places and niche things! Great lore too.. It'd be cool if you could stay for a month and share exploring the area with us!
That was a great video. Mountain village with a history. A scary tunnel ride and then out into a peaceful valley. As you moved around it reminded me of the little town where my father's parents lived.
The stark contrast between cites and rural Japan is amazing, and having lived for a time in Nagano I much prefer the countryside. My mother in law is from Akita but I haven't visited that prefecture yet, maybe next time. I enjoyed this a great deal Robin, thanks for sharing this video, keep up the good work my man.
I love to see more of this village. Hope you can stay in this area for a days or week and show us how beautiful in this hidden village. But be careful with the Bears❤
I’m living in Akita now which is probably how this got in my recommended feed. This seems like a really interesting place to check out! I imagine it would be near impossible to reach without a car, though. Hope I can visit before it’s time to return home
That was so cool, what an interesting village Robin!! Hope we get to see more places like this, would be a really fun adventure if they would let you stay for a while there :D
Bro I've watched more vids since, but today I found this one. Just subscribed a few hours ago. I see the channel grew FAST! A recent video, people suggested getting one of those Lil trucks with your financial boom. Something to consider, you'd be able to continue traveling (real living) and have good shelter. I considered "van life" ... its an upgrade for nomadic life & VERY economical. Good shelter. But bro... your LIVING. Dude, show us more! I'm in America and I love content like this! It's fascinating. Especially the matter of that Samurai.
65.5k man! You are on your way up! Get another collaboration and you will see another surge in views! Wishing you luck! This place look so cool and that tunnel looked like a smooth, fun ride for skating! 💓💗❤️
Wow that tunnel could be the start of a Hayao Miyazaki animation , you have some cool ingredients for that bro. Homeless Skater find a hidden village and enter another reality where Godzilla rule 🦖
I hope you get to your goal as soon as possible. We pray for you. I lived in Japan for 4 years, 1 year in Tokyo and the rest in Sitamaken I explored most of Japan but there are so many places I wish to visit before my time was over.
Remember your fortune, if you study you’ll have luck. Keep telling us more history its my favorite part of your videos, especially how you link it to anime; not a lot of people in the west know that some of their favorite anime/manga stories have historical roots! By not a lot of people I mean me 😂
I love videos like this man. Showing the culture and history if Japan is something I adore. Thanks for the history, showing the paintings and walking around.
Beautiful village. Would make a great vacation spot or retreat from all the craziness of the big cities. I'm sure you could find inexpensive properties in this area as a home base. ❤
All horror movies should begin with a Japanese guy on a skateboard entering a tunnel with a bear on the loose. Jus' sayin'.
🤣
Coccaine bear 2 in Japan, maybe 😂
Everything about Touhoku is depressing, creepy and cringey like horror movie. I love it.
No wonder you are homeless.
Thanks for a free horror movie.
lol
hahaha!!
Guys dont forget to like and comment we want to keep this guy growing!
Hell yeah! I'm hooked lol

Glad you like them!
My thoughts exactly - we're getting to see something we'd never otherwise see. What a privilege!
I will never travel so far…i appreciate these videos!
The tunnel to the village reminds me of the movie Spirited Away.
me too!
It totally gives that vibe.
So true🙌
I was going to write the same!
was just going to write that!
Wow what an amazing view outside of that tunnel, looks so peaceful, no city noises, just one with nature. Robin should teach the bear to skateboard!
🐻🛹 🤔😁

@@NomadPush yea, if you ever get to stay in one place like that. small interview would be amazing.
Before the tunnel you could probably get there over some long, winding mountain road to a small mountain pass.
