    Love these flies. I only have one fly shop within reasonable travel distance so I have found it easier to find Partridge and other double hooks in the UK, 'Shipping is expensive so I save and buy a large order and it only increases the material costs a small amount each. Makes sense to me anyway. Love your videos still the best on TH-cam in my opinion because of the attention to detail and fantastic tying basics, tips and tricks. All the best to you and yours. Sean

    I'm new to fly tying, Was gona ask what feathers did you use for them great looking wings, until i found your list above, Great idea for us newbies to add the list of all the materials i need for the fly. Thank-you.
    fantastic work i'm gona try to tie a few of your flies.
    Can i ask what are good all-round feathers to buy to create realistic wings for a novice like me tying flies on 10/12/14/16 hook sizes for trout and fresh water fish in the whole.

    Hi Davie as usual really grateful for the tutorials, but can you please show me how to tie a junction tube fly, as I cannot find anyone showing how its tied, I would be most grateful as it seems to be a good pattern to fish on the Tyne in England and I would love to try my luck with it, I hope you can help?

    Hi Davie, my friend has mentioned that he really fancies the vice you use in this video. As his birthday is coming up I thought we could get it as his present. Can you advise the make and model? Atb Jim

      @DavieMcPhail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim,
      I use a Law Vise but unfortunately it is no longer being made and because of this when they come on the market they can go for silly money in comparison to their original cost..There is a Provise on the market which is very similar to the Law so I have attached a link to it for you to see.. www.virtual-nymph.com/pro-vice.html
      I hope this is of some help to you...

    Nice difficult fly. My problem is I think a lot of flies are to catch fishermen ;). You bury your tag completely. Pretty much bury your tinsel. We used to fish with just a bare silver hook & willow pole when we ran out of worms. Sometimes bare hook especially with a off set beak worked faster. Dad always said a lure can be any color so long as it is silver. The main silver here is the hook.

    • @ahti29
      @ahti29 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the whole flytying history and experience is all bs,bare silver hook is the only thing that really works?😳Must try that...

    Beauty of a fly as usual Davie! If you used a thin uv resin on the head without super glue first would that also dull the colour of the Glo-brite floss?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sandstrom9562,
      It doesn't make a huge amount of difference if you use a UV resin on the glo-brite floss, I just prefer the superglue then finish off with a varnish as I've done this for many years...I'm glad you liked the fly...

      Hi Clive O' Driscoll,
      There's many tools that I could recommend but is there any fly tying clubs or fly fairs in your area as this is a great way to get an insight into the tools you will need to get you started..They vary in cost so then you can budget to suit yourself...I'm glad you are thinking of tying your own flies and I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as fishing...

      ***** Thank You Davie,
      Im currently living in Perth Australia but I'm heading Home to Cork in Ireland at the end of this year, I have a mate who ties all my flies for me, maybe he will advise but i don't want to hassel him for time etc.
      I like the idea of fly tying clubs/ fairs and I will look into this more when the time comes, that Fly you tied there was Amazing....
      Best Regards,
      Clive

    Brilliant davie, wheres the best place to buy good arctic runner?, the veniards is hit and miss for quality, one of the main reasons i dismissed the parks shrimps as a cascade variant was I couldnt get good runner hair, but I think I may have been foolish as it is so deadly ...

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi blackwaterhackles,
      I bought most of my Arctic Runner from the Glasgow Angling Centre which came from Veniards and as they have a few pieces I could look through them to get the ones I like.. It does vary a lot in length and quality but I look for the pieces with medium to short hair..

    Love watching your videos. New 2 salmon fishing and just ordered my fly tying kit. Where do I get the jungle cock feathers, can't seem to find them anywhere. 🙈.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gavin,
      I have attached some of links to some Jungle Cock which can be bought online but you have to look closely at the capes to make sure they are good feathers and not all split so they can vary in price..The first link is to a cape which I feel is worth the money as it's a good colour and not many splits it also has a lot of feathers..I will say though some of the best salmon flies you can have in your box don't have Jungle Cock on them, the Willie Gunn, Ally's Shrimp, Stoats Tail, Blue Charm and many others so don't worry about having to buy some to tye a good salmon fly..I wish you well and enjoy tying your own flies...

    Hi Davie
    Ive been watching and enjoying your tying for a number of years
    I would like to see you tie a few salmon singles and explain how to get rid of the step etc also I would like if you could explain how to choose jungle cock from the cape to avoid waste.
    Thanks
