To pronounce u , you can think that u is kinda like a blend of english oo (zoo) and english e. So if you try to pronounce oo and e at the same time, you can and up pronouncing u correctly.
What I mean is : concentrate on the position of your lips when you say oo and when you say e. If you try to place your lips in between these 2 positions, you will probably find the u sound.
You maybe right to pronounce "legume" the way you did at 2:20. But since this word do not exist in french vocabulary I 'd rather recommend to learn the word "légume" with "é" .It means :vegetable.
