I had studied Paso Doble myself for years. I even went to France - one of the country's originators of the dance, to dance paso with my former dancing partner socially. From its Spanish-dancing use derived from the inspiration of the bullfighting scenes, including the use of flamenco figures, the "Appel" is used by the matador to beckon the bull to charge. It is something like a "bravade." As Marina said, the Appel is used to start a lot of basic paso figures, including the Displacement, The Ecart, the 16, and even The Promenade. In the olden days, dance competitors would "stamp loudly" on the Appel in Latin dance heats, but now, modern instructors are now telling paso dancers not to stamp "too loudly" on the Appel, fearing that it could mar the character and the essence of this dramatic, theatrical dance. Some paso dancers still want to stamp on the "Appel" loudly to create the dramatic character of the dance usually against instructors' wishes, so in my opinion, this is not going to be a clear-cut solution to this.
All what you say is false and racist. France don't create pasodoble, they copied it after centuries. Spanish people don't imitate bullfights, wtf this shit is?
Excellent & clear demo! Positions, executions without music then choreo dance with music! Clear , simple choreo & instructions! Thx.
