I would rather spend a day with Pat and Styx than fly the heavens with Bezos, and that's the truth. Love every minute of it. Thanks for sharing your expertise and patience.
Plus, as bad as getting kicked by a horse can be it’s better than getting slammed into the Texas countryside at hundreds of miles per hour when the computer controlled re-entry system on the ‘Phallus One’ space capsule fails… plus getting to give a magnificent horse a good scratch and rub is much more satisfying and the horse enjoys it too.
Art fron Marin County As a dink let me tell you this stuff is hard to learn. If you do it 24/7 it is a lot easier. You are the only one that presents a real lesson, and they are good lessons too. When you present the lesson you present it differently each time. That is the mark of a good teacher. We dinks have to have someone to save us, that's you.
Glad you made this video - therefore I can repeat it again & again, and learn and you may not have to do 112 times to let us know about timing. It is finesse but I do need the repetition. Big Thanks
Thank you Deb & Pat for sharing your wisdom & wealth of knowledge freely with us. There’s nothing like learning from a well seasoned horseman & his lovely bride behind the camera, who puts everything together & makes it all possible 🙏🏼😊
Nice video your like a mentor. Hope to see you in a clinic some day. Bronx location yes Pat we have horses but the horse need ground work because their dinks. lol Great video. ❤️🐴👍
Lovely horse. He likes to look around. I like horses who still have their own minds, not braindead robots who've been subjected to hundreds of repetitive flexing/tight circles/disengaging hindquarters or whatever some people do to try and make a horse never think for himself. If I'm riding outside and there's some problem like a snake (I'm Australian), boggy ground or other danger, I sure want a horse who will let me know, and not think he's going to be punished for being aware of his surroundings.
This is one of those things in my "bucket list" that would love to do and cross out.(owning/riding/taking care -the right way- of a great beutiful horse) ..👍
On the left turn. You are using the right rein to shift the horses weight back. Are you particular about the horses footfall when asking? If so what is the correct footfall you are looking for?
Hi Pat,..awesome videos!.. My father was a lover /trainer of horses/cattle in Mexico(you remind me of him) all his life..but he NEVER wanted us to have anything to do with horses ,for fear of us getting injured (my grandfather had a serious insident with his horse ,that ultimately died from those injuries).. Anyways-i would love to attend your basic essentials of riding..(horsemanship 101 😊).. Where are you located?.. I live in Bakersfield,California. Thank you so much!...great videos 👍 ---Rigo Fernandez
Perfect timing ( chuckle chuckle) on sharing this video. I get to have a weekly ride on a friends mare and do some schooling. She is well trained, so she is teaching me. Last 2 rides were with your bit and we both love it. I picked out quite a few things I have been doing wrong. One being that I was using the wrong rein when asking for the front end to move over. Should I be using spurs , since she was trained with them?
Depends on the horse. I had a well broke Morgan mare that I didn't use when she was in foal and was nursing her foal. I had some company over, caught her out of the pasture and rode her bareback in a halter when she wasn't ridden for over a year, and it was just as though she had done a twenty mile ride the day before. No warmup whatsoever. Most horses though would need a refresher when they are not ridden much.

Why leave the Earth when there's so much still to learn here on it?
😂🐴👌
That is for sure.
That's because outer space isn't real. Stick to the truth.

If you ever run out of ideas for a training video, I'm sure we'd all love to hear a whole video of some cowboying stories.

"...that's how it's done!" Thanks, again!
I sure love watching you and these horses. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Beautiful example of mutual respect...timing @ a calm demeanor
I love that horses eyes!
Fantastic…you may thinks it’s subtle, but it turns into big over time…- no truer words spoken!!
THANK YOU PAT AND DEB!!
you should make a DVD on the basics of riding off your skeleton?
There's a song called Spin that Pony by Dave Stacey that makes me think of Pat every time I hear it.
Nice video your like a mentor. Hope to see you in a clinic some day.

Hi Pat and Deb. Pat love watching your videos on horsemanship. Great job with your videography Deb!
So much good information in your videos.

I dont know why those words got crossed out!😊
Great as always!!
Timing and out lasting the horse. Thank you!
Thank you - it’s always very inspiring to watch you’r videos - thank you for sharing 🙏.
On the left turn. You are using the right rein to shift the horses weight back. Are you particular about the horses footfall when asking? If so what is the correct footfall you are looking for?
For a left turn: as the left front leaves the ground, you use the right rein. The bend in the neck and the power in the right hind make a clean turn.
Makes sense, thanks. Whip
I like them rawhide taps. I've got a similar pair. So much lighter than the leather ones.
They aren’t rawhide…they’re just old!
Thank you for the great simple instruction.Captain Reminder. Yes it makes sense. We will try.
I learn so much from you!
nice!
I liked it very much

Yes.
If you can sit her well than you can ride with spurs :) if you would kick her every step unintentionally then no :)
Enjoyable.....thank you!
👍
Great video as always. Your horses are in such good condition. Are they paddocked and do you have a video on feeding?
Y’all have a fire down that way? I thought I read about it near Isabella.
Do you recommend spurs even during the early stages of schooling the horse ?
Watched the Halter & Spurs & Saddles video, so my question was answered in that video. Thanks.
Do you find that older horses that are not ridden much, you have to go back and work on basics with them? Is that fairly common?
Depends on the horse. I had a well broke Morgan mare that I didn't use when she was in foal and was nursing her foal. Is that a fly repellent you have put around the horse's eyes? Any recommendation for a good working fly repellent? Thank you for another good video.
I believe Pat said he uses Swat.
What type snaffle? Sounds like it’s got a cricket
Just watched your video on bits this en must be the same, thanks good stuff!

Is this an appendix qh?
No. He’s a Thoroughbred.
“….I need to do it 101.” A wise man said you can’t train people you can only out last them. I think that was the quote.
I think the quote is , “ Is can’t train HORSES, you can only out last them”
Who ever his grandkids are tell them to be THANKFUL!! smh if only if only
