In 2010, a guy stole my wallet on a train by trying to get me to sign a petition. He had his arm in a cast and shoved the clipboard towards me while he picked my pocket. Weird thing is he looked a lot like you.
The greatest thing about magic for me is knowing how it's done but being unable to spot it. It's a testament to untold hours of practice and innumerable failures before perfection happened.
what I love more about sleight of hand is, even if you have some idea of how it was made, you can still be VERY impressed by the sheer amount of workmanship that goes into doing it so smoothly and appearing effortless
The transported coin trick is totally beyond me and may as well be actual sorcery. On the other hand, I know exactly how all the sponge ball tricks were done, but that doesn't ruin the trick for me. Watching him pull them off so smoothly, with effortless ease and grace, is a treat even if you know how it's done. This dude is a treasure.
@@CYB3R2K The key to any sponge ball trick is understanding that any time he shows you one ball, there's always at least another one in his fist or in his other hand. The trick is very obvious once you wrap your head around the fact that they can be compressed down to nothing, so what looks like just one ball is actually two or three or ten. When he's putting "one ball" in your hand and closing it, he's actually stuffing a whole bunch in there, but is diverting your attention elsewhere and touching your hand a lot so you can't feel the difference.
Notice that the cards were bent/curved, so that you don't notice the coin moving underneath. Granted, I don't know how he actually moved the coin, but it is what it is. 😅
2:37 The crazy thing about the Phil Ivey scandal was that he effectively told the casinos beforehand in his "what I want as a VIP" documents that he was gonna edge-sort, and exactly how he was gonna do it (asking for specific brand of deck, asking for a specific type of dealer, asking the dealer to flip the cards around at the table). And the casino just went along with it because he was gonna gamble tons of money and they were dumb and greedy (and VIPs ask for weird stuff all the time).
except he didn't - the reason he lost his court cases was because he explicitly said it was for "luck" and "superstition" when the casinos asked "why?" That moved it to fraud.
@@Chiberia The casinos still had the option on review to say "sorry, but we can't make that accommodation because it could potentially compromise game integrity", but they didn't. Ben Seidman! He had one of the most powerful gimmick-free coin vanishes that I tried to learn back in the day, 'Alchemy'. Great to see him still going strong!
This guy rocks - why hadn't I heard of him before! I'll definitely be on the lookout for his content. Great attitude and talent and humor. Rock on Ben!
Watching someone doing tricks like this is like you know exactly that he will pull a trick and lie to you but you still want to watch them anyway and get amazed.
I've learned some basic sleight of hand, and most of that only in theory. I love seeing magic because I have some ideas about how things could be done (sometimes I even spot the thing) and absolutely love *still* not being able to actually *see* it!
I've only clocked one trick this whole time (thanks to discovering magic before discovering boys), and that one was so flippin smooth it only makes it more impressive.
5:27 this incredible. The best example on this device I’ve ever seen. Maybe we could build it into a pair of painters stilts so when you pick up the littler person, they become a bigger person. Hawkins would love that!!!! Somehow this interview is a misleading truth. 10/10
Your last point about how magicians lead their audience that sleight of hand is fast and then René Lavand's ‘I Can't Do it Any Slower’ is a perfect example that speed isn’t what is at play here. But of course a one handed magician had lightening fast reflexes and you will never see lol
Amazing, if you guys make a part 3 (i love Ben) its not a movie but you should totally check out a clip of "Rene Lavan" dude had one hand and performed the craziest magic tricks
I find 11:40 quite cool, just because, on a second rewatch, I totally spotted how he did it, and it's entirely visible in-frame (unlike the earlier coin transportation, which I still can't figure out, but, after going frame by frame repeatedly, I feel pretty confident the coin's never in-frame). However, I kind of think that makes it cooler. It's not a trick of framing or anything like that; he really just _is_ that smooth!
The French word for magic means that your finger movements are done first. It is not so much as the speed of your hands which deceives the eye, just that the finger movements are done before you attract attention to the hands.
A party magician did this ball trick while I volunteered and it was really cool and seamless. I didn't feel or notice anything, it really felt like magic.
If anyone has any questions, I'm doing an AMA at LAX airport today at noon.
Maybe don't mention your a pickpocket on an airport
@@churibmanI didn’t get your comment until now. Going to need you to come bail me out.
A magician exposing airport security theater would actually make a great act
Do you have a recommendation for a book or two for psychological magic?

Thanks for watching!
You're an absolute delight to watch, Ben. I hope we see more of you here!
Please come back for more videos

Love hearing the crew laughing in the background.
I was just watching his first video last night for the millionth time and wished Vanity Fair would have him back. He's delightful.
I'm so glad they brought this guy back! He's such a joy to listen to and he's so knowledgable!
I think my favorite parts are when Ben messes with the filming crew. More of that, please :D
I try :)
every time Ben does a trick my jaw is on the ground - such fluid and swift movements
