It's the exact same wall Chivalry ran into. High-level play has literally just become exploiting the game engine, something that I think could largely be solved by just capping acceleration and not allowing damage until the swing animation actually mid-swing. As it stands right now you learn how to play the way the game was initially intended (ie. blocking, chambering, looking for openings and mistakes, etc.) only to be greeted by naked guys flailing around with messers and frying pans that you can't seem to block because they hit before the animation even begins. When that's the new-player experience and they're just told "git gud" or "to just play duels and learn", they'll just stop playing because people want the realistic medieval "fps" they're being sold and that's not what it is right now.
I'm a new player, only around lv 30 or so, and most games for me end up being a kill-death of around 5 to 20, but for whatever reason I still keep coming back, I do genuinely enjoy the game. The worst thing for me is feinting, like I have no idea how I'm supposed to counter them because I inevitably go to parry the first attack and get hit by the second.
I would quit the game if they did that. If that happens the whole game is going to be the same boring ripost trade no matter who are you fighting. I hate how parries in this game work as it is, I wouldn't tolerate if they removed creativity for swings too.

I’m also just gonna say it, the devs fed this. Listened far too much to the wrong advice and distanced themselves from inviting new players by catering to the no-lifers

Obviously the player base wouldn't be massive anyway (so the way to survive it would be by having a strong and loyal user base). The problem with Mordhau is it's uninspired and didn't gave a clear vision from the start. They have tried to fix Chivalry without a vision of their own and that is why the game ended up being really stale. In many ways it is even worse than Chiv despite both being broken shovel ware games.

In Australian servers it's always easy to notice if a game is dying. There are just as many active servers as there were a year ago give or take. Over holidays and straight after big patches these numbers change, but otherwise it's pretty consistent. It's a niche game with lots of overly competitive full-time gamers. This is going to instantly put of a lot of more casual gamers, or even gamers that don't have as much time to remain competitive. That being said, there is a decent number of roleplay/meme build characters that just play for the lols which keeps these numbers steady, but the lack of casual gamers means that numbers don't ever really grow that much.
The reason it died for me was that you couldn't do fun things in it anymore because the meta had changed. There was certain loadouts that were better than others and it caused the game to get stale.

This game is somewhat still alive, you can still find full servers, and even some new players, also averaging over 1k concurrent players. As a somewhat new player(Level 20 as of writing) I can still get kills.
The problem is not only the game itself, but the competitive "community" is toxic as fuck. So a lot of people who might want to play competitively don't want to deal with the 12 year olds. A lot of trashtalk, trolling, shit like playing tournaments with meme builds just to make fun of weaker players. I have played a number of games on a competitive level, including Chivalry, but the community in Mordhau is really next-level shit. You can hardly call it a community. And big youtubers like Stouty did their fair share of presenting Mordhau as a meme to the public. I guess everyone who played Chivalry in the early days remembers the drama around IO, VK and so on, but in the end it was still a community and people tried to make it work and tried to help each other. In Mordhau it's just a bunch of individual toxic kids and when you call them out it's "just a meme bro".
Dr. Shibe Well, we did get Feitoria in late October and Castello + revamped Mountain Peak in early April. But yeah, there aren’t that many people playing it nowadays (though numbers go up every time a patch is released, it seems - when Castello came out there seemed to be a huge number of new players). I’m still having a great time with the game (picked it up in November), so even if it’s dying, it ain’t dead to me yet.
How's the game dead? I've seen and been in multiple servers that were either full or missing like 7 players and filled up later. I'm usually the one to call out a dead game, but the fact I can find full lobbies at 6am all the way to 12pm in the U.S goes to show people either are just going with a troll meme or didn't even bother to play the game themselves to see.
@Uvaaren Do you use U.S servers? Idk if I just got lucky, but like 2 weeks ago I could easily find games at full or near full capacity at like morning to noon. I haven't played since then so idk if it was just a spike.
@Uvaaren just use the server browser, if your ping isn't great in a certain server further away with people in it then just try to help the team and not worry too much about dueling or if you get killed due to bad ping.
For the Bannerlord dueling clip, ranged weapons are banned in the forum post that has the server password. Probably why they got salty, even though a single throw won't ruin the server.
Hey Giru I’ve been watching your recent VODs and I hope you upload parts of that first play through of the horror game with Rise hitbob and Frank. I’m not a huge fan of steams but I watched the entire thing and loved it.

its really fun it just has a large skill gap. youll be getting kiilled by level 200s every death. once you learn it a bit it gets good tho. awesome customization
@@BonePapi Averages about 3,000 - 4,000 players in the past few months. It's a decent game if you don' take it serious, and if you are fine with the very high skill gap. It's main flaw is lack of content, Devs release several patches a year if that. But we did just get a pretty big update with new maps. Also the community can be a bit toxic and hilarious at the same time.

Honestly its the meme boys that are keeping mordhau interesting. Theres a reason why people avoid ranked, its because its boring, its just filled with sweats. But in casual play you meet some of the funniest people. Its great fun and I still play the game a ton months after its release.

@Chris Colbert Lol it's funny people say that, it did take me about 3 months to really become decent at the game, being someone who never played chiv but that's alright. People shouldn't expect to come in and dominate the game, some may be naturally good at games and be able too but the average person won't be able to top the leaderboards at least not regularly. But there's other ways to help the team win without having to be the best killing machine on the team, so it's best to play engineer or something and be strategic to help the team, help hold the cap points, help push objectives at the right times, etc. Dueling servers are a separate thing themselves but dueling 1v1 is a bit of a different art then knowing how to space and gank people with your team and not hit your teammates, etc.
Yeah, i was thinking about buying this game since it came out. Now i see that i was right in not buying it. Its the same ballerina, dragging and whatever other bullshit players discovered they can do. Before it came out, from what was shown i thought that it would be a much more serious game with realism in mind. Im not saying the game is shit, Chiv had ballerinas but i loved the game, its just that it gets old, it feels like youre being trolled with all this absurd stuff people do, to me theyre just exploits, but many say these exploits are actually intended mechanics. Mordhau wasn't made to be a realistic game with easy combat mordhau was made by competitive chivalry players who didn't like how chiv turned out . There is no 'ballerina' in mordhau the devs removed that but being able to drag accel is part of the game it takes skill to learn how to do that without swing manipulation the game would be a mindless game with no skill . I agree with you on some of your points but mordhau was never intended to be a realistic sword fighting game.
When i first saw mordhau, it thought it was going to be a realistic medieval fighting game set on large scale maps. Where in fights you would have to look for weak spots in armour (behind elbows, armpits, neck, knees) unfortunately mordhau promised to fix what chiv didnt and mordhau became a dance recital anyway.

They don't even put in the time to explore the game mechanics before defaulting to "ballerina" complaints just like chiv. The devs have done a ton of tweaking and honestly its fixed. No more rainbows or 360s I played chiv and I just can't do it anymore. As far as dragging goes yea it's always been a core game mechanic and without it combat would be so stale, you would just remember how long swings are and thats that. That would be like every fixed swing animation we've gotten in previous games. Mount and blade only worked as well as it did because it had holds feints chambers etc. But funnily enough there is dragging on that game as well, hell you can abuse the animations a lot more than you can on mordhau. No one talks about that. Hell I still see players complaining about feints like you fucking what thats a huge part of combat in real life. I think the real problem is there are so many players that are casual in nature and are not willing to put in any time to actually learn the mechanics, so they never improve and constantly complain about it in the youtube comment section I guess. Another thing is how they handle criticism, they basically ignore it which I find fucking hilarious. Lucas Riddle player count is pretty stable, it’s not sinking at all. And it doesn’t matter who it was developed by, a game of this size was never going to be competitive.

@@BonePapi Averages about 3,000 - 4,000 players in the past few months. It's a decent game if you don' take it serious, and if you are fine with the very high skill gap. It's main flaw is lack of content, Devs release several patches a year if that. But we did just get a pretty big update with new maps. Also the community can be a bit toxic and hilarious at the same time.

Use the server browser, there's always a full server somewhere. Sometimes it may be from a server you'll get bad ping but whatever, find a way to help the team
There is a really active server called Duke Of York it has a US server and a EU server

If you just stand in front of the door without moving (including attacking, kicking etc.) the door cannot be opened or kicked open.

mirroring a kick wouldn't have done anything to help him there, he couldn't move otherwise he would've, parrying it is just the better option since if he kicked he would've been hit by the other player on his left. these people are high level players, GIRU himself said after there was nothing he could've done.

Honestly its the meme boys that are keeping mordhau interesting. Theres a reason why people avoid ranked, its because its boring, its just filled with sweats. But in casual play you meet some of the funniest people. Its great fun and I still play the game a ton months after its release.

People are just bad and cant learn to block so they say the games dead and too tough for new players. Not this guy he was jk and he's really good, but most people who say it.
@Chris Colbert Lol it's funny people say that, it did take me about 3 months to really become decent at the game, being someone who never played chiv but that's alright. People shouldn't expect to come in and dominate the game, some may be naturally good at games and be able too but the average person won't be able to top the leaderboards at least not regularly. But there's other ways to help the team win without having to be the best killing machine on the team, so it's best to play engineer or something and be strategic to help the team, help hold the cap points, help push objectives at the right times, etc. Dueling servers are a separate thing themselves but dueling 1v1 is a bit of a different art then knowing how to space and gank people with your team and not hit your teammates, etc.

Yeah, i was thinking about buying this game since it came out. Now i see that i was right in not buying it. Its the same ballerina, dragging and whatever other bullshit players discovered they can do. Before it came out, from what was shown i thought that it would be a much more serious game with realism in mind. Im not saying the game is shit, Chiv had ballerinas but i loved the game, its just that it gets old, it feels like youre being trolled with all this absurd stuff people do, to me theyre just exploits, but many say these exploits are actually intended mechanics.
Seeing this guys videos confirms what i thought, the game has the same issues chiv had. I lost all interest in Mordhau. The game has the same 2 handed weapons swings spamming, but now theres the frying pan too, and traps. I feel like the devs kind of lost sight of the what the game is.
No wonder the game is dying, either the game is taken as joke for having these ridicule shirtless, pan wielding men, or the game is taken for a failed team based medieval combat game.

Mordhau wasn't made to be a realistic game with easy combat mordhau was made by competitive chivalry players who didn't like how chiv turned out . There is no 'ballerina' in mordhau the devs removed that but being able to drag accel is part of the game it takes skill to learn how to do that without swing manipulation the game would be a mindless game with no skill

When i first saw mordhau, it thought it was going to be a realistic medieval fighting game set on large scale maps. Where in fights you would have to look for weak spots in armour (behind elbows, armpits, neck, knees) unfortunately mordhau promised to fix what chiv didnt and mordhau became a dance recital anyway.

@@Matthew-dn6ss I don't get how "realistic" these people want it to be, if it was any more realistic it wouldn't fucking be fun. They don't even put in the time to explore the game mechanics before defaulting to "ballerina" complaints just like chiv. The devs have done a ton of tweaking and honestly its fixed. No more rainbows or 360s I played chiv and I just can't do it anymore. As far as dragging goes yea it's always been a core game mechanic and without it combat would be so stale, you would just remember how long swings are and thats that. That would be like every fixed swing animation we've gotten in previous games.
Mount and blade only worked as well as it did because it had holds feints chambers etc. But funnily enough there is dragging on that game as well, hell you can abuse the animations a lot more than you can on mordhau. No one talks about that. Hell I still see players complaining about feints like you fucking what thats a huge part of combat in real life.
I think the real problem is there are so many players that are casual in nature and are not willing to put in any time to actually learn the mechanics, so they never improve and constantly complain about it in the youtube comment section I guess. Another thing is how they handle criticism, they basically ignore it which I find fucking hilarious. Anyways my point is if the game was shaped how most of these people probably imagined it to be it would suck, no one would play it and we'd be back at square one.

Go play something else but I guarantee you won't find what you're looking for it's just not plausible in a competitive video game. There will always be people who find exploits and a meta as well, that's just part of competitive gaming culture really. Especially not a free flow competitive multiplayer fighting game, I have no idea why someone would want to restrict what you can do even more so they have a better chance at beating someone because eventually they'll get good to the point where they feel restricted and now they're complaining about the opposite problem. It's just so redundant.
This comment is to you: if you want to complain about something offer a way to fix it you aren't being constructive at all. Things like "spamming" "exploits" which are intended mechanics btw and all the other bullshit things players discovered are usually quite easy to counter if you put any time to learning them at all. All of the complaints towards like a frying pan for example (lmao it's a peasant weapon) is really just you complaining about customization, so really it has nothing to do with the game its the playerbase you have a problem with.
Anyways from your comment I can see you haven't put a lot of time into it anyways, but you shouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly. The players that you think exploit are actually just really good at the game so they can afford to do stupid shit like go naked with a pan and still beat you. If you're so tired of it learn how to counter it. If you tried it you would get smacked, its all about skill in mordhau. That's what I love about it, but hey I'm not trying to offend either all I'm saying is it's probably not your cup of tea. I would play something like Kingdom Come: Deliverance if I were you. It's an extremely immersive medieval game with lots of very realistic combat, I've played it extensively and I have a feeling you would like it. It's single player by the way.
