    What a breathtaking beautiful guitar. The figured mahogany is beyond comprehension. The voice of the instrument is wonderful. Thank you. You have brought sunshine into the life of an old guitar player.

    That guitar is spectacular. The wood is lovely but what I really like is your design. The copper rosette is incredible. Original, simple, and utterly beautiful.

    Consider the Mahogany is 500 years old, and this guitar will be cherished for the next 500 years. Ahhhh...🎶

    While no doubt, these are super fine pieces of timber used, it must be said there is a substantial amount of hype behind the "tree" and moon spruce at that.
    This guitar is more an example of the builder getting the most out of the materials used, than the materials themselves.
    The industry of custom guitar making still must maintain its integrity and be careful not to venture into the realm of snake oil salesmanship.
    There are equally good pieces of wood that can be found across various species in relative abundance for the best acoustic instruments.
    I am a customer of other builders, and builder myself.

    What led you to naming it "Lady Triệu"? Is it after the historical figure or the gin brand?

    Beautiful guitar, I've got to ask how much did "The Tree" wood cost. What price did this guitar sell for.
    Love the case Warm regards Dean

      @@TomSandsGuitars Maybe trees have their own kind of music...At least they can communicate: "Hey, neghbour, make your leaves taste bitter because there is a darnn giraffe eating mine."
      The people who buy your guitars should be able to play so as to hear the beauty of the melodies and chords. But the ringing of a bell in a cathedral will not help to compose as some people might think. And the age of a tree will not help. I´m looking for the key.
      By the way, the world famous Hauser guitar builder lives 30 km away from me. Don´t know how the new generation is doing, though.
      Greetings from Lower Bavaria

      PS: Some famous guitar player tests Hauser guitars in a youtube video. Asked, what the difference the 125.000€ guitar is to the other ones, he says: "It plays by itself."

    It would be interesting to build the exact same guitar using sinker, or master grade mahogany and do a sound comparison. This guitar is spectacular.

      Paul Boden you’re absolutely right! I’ve built ‘twins’ before, it’s a fascinating experiment. The difficulty is that it is extremely difficult to ensure a true scientific comparison due to the infinite complexity/variables in each instrument/piece of wood etc. I have some lovely figured mahogany for future builds of similar spec, this will be a nice opportunity for comparison. Cheers!

    I saw an interview with Paul Reed Smith where he said they have tried to grow birdseye maple and other figuring from the seeds and it doesn't work. The figuring is not from genetics, it is from the different stresses on the trees as they grow.

    • @TomSandsGuitars
      @TomSandsGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ben Schmalz I understand that climatic variation and growing conditions create figuring/coloration etc but I’m not sure genetic anomalies can be completely ruled out.

    • @RByrne
      @RByrne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Genetics most certainly plays a part. Sure it's mostly the environment the tree grows in, but how it reacts to the environment and adapts to its surroundings has a lot to do with the genetics.

    it is a stunning guitar,do you think that an identical build using a “normal mahogany” would sound the same.I suppose what I am asking is does the quilted mahogany make the guitar sound different.I love your guitars,unfortunately I simply cannot afford one.

    • @TomSandsGuitars
      @TomSandsGuitars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a very good question, there definitely is something special about it, how much of that is tied to the story and rarity of this wood, I'm not sure I can accurately measure!

    From THE TREE… of course... I don’t think that there is any plank left from it. That specific tree was found in the 70’s dude! Nice guitar though.

    Tom, I bought some of The Tree from my friend Robert Novak here in Miami the day it came
    from the kiln. I got first pick and could get a notarized certificate of authenticity from Mr. Novak.
    I will sell some, not all of my AAAA Primo Tree. Message me. PS I enjoyed your video a lot.

    That story about the tree is sad. Beautiful colossal tree and they cut it down! Sums up human greed.

      @TomSandsGuitars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glenn C Hi Glenn, I agree it’s sad that the tree, something so old which had stood for so long and seen so much was felled. There’s not really much more that can be said on that. I take heart in the fact that the timber is still being used decades later and admired the world over.
