  • It's our final theme park of our trip to Australia and New Zealand- this time with a stop at the only theme park in NZ- Rainbow's End! They're home to 3 roller coasters, although we unfortunately only got on two of them, as the signature Corkscrew was having technical issues after coming back up from a recent refurbishment, and remained closed :( But we still got to enjoy their drop tower, log flume, and mine train! We also got to see the park at night, which had a lively atmosphere!

    Here’s a bit of a fun fact: Rainbows End’s Corkscrew opened the same year Seaworld Australia’s Corkscrew opened. Arrow sent a huge team from America to build both coasters at the same time 😊.
    Last fun fact: Rainbows End was built surrounded by farmland. As time went on, Auckland had grown around the park.
    Lastly, Rainbows Ends Corkscrew is surprisingly smooth for a Arrow. Thats mainly because of the amazing maintenance team. That’s why it’s outlived Seaworlds version I believe.
    Great episode guys! Thanks for coming to my home park 😁

    I live in Auckland and I'm a coaster enthusiast haha (so Murray is not the only one!) - roller coasters were a special interest since I was 3 years old, and it wasn't until age 33 I was finally able to fulfill that dream and do a big trip through several parks in USA.
    It's been a number of years since my last visit to Rainbows End although it's only 20 minutes away - I was supposed to go this past weekend actually but the visit was postponed due to the weather. It would have been funny if I'd gone on the same day as you as I actually would have recognised y'all haha.
    The Rainbows End Corkscrew was my first 'proper' coaster, ridden as soon as I met the technical height requirement of 120cm. Sorry you didn't get to ride it, even though it's not an exciting coaster by most standards it's a pretty well run corkscrew as David mentions in another comment.
    I had to laugh at Murray's "yeah nah" expression when you asked what to expect of the park - that's a very kiwi reply XD
    I remember the opening of the mine train ride (Gold Rush) and it was a huge deal at the time - I did enjoy the themeing.
    The Log Flume was generally the most popular ride when I was a kid as it was fun enough without being too scary/big for small kids.
    The Stratosfear

      @@Marty_NZ so the best coaster in New Zealand was down. A broken arrow coaster. I actually rode an arrow today. I did a ride on Carolina cyclone. Of course I did one on copperhead and 5 on intimidator and 6 on fury. All kidding aside did you at least get him on the upside Frisbee. I love spin cycle at Silverwood. May be my favorite flat ride. You did get him a backstage walk on the arrow

      @@Marty_NZ I think Stratosfear would be my favorite at that park although not something I would lap. The mine train coaster looked good and the logged flume looked fun. Canyon blaster is the best small arrow in my mind but I prefer viper at SFMM and especially Tennessee tornado at Dollywood To it. I also rode shockwave at six flags great America back in the day so I have 2 of the 3 big loopers under my belt.

    • @Marty_NZ
      @Marty_NZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alantrotter2077 Stratosfear doing the "extreme" cycle of full 360 is probably the most extreme ride there. It's fun, but the best ride for me is still the Intamin drop tower. It's actually a pretty good one compared to others I've done around the world. It's the closest I get to airtime here. The Arrow in the backrow down the drop does give you a pop of airtime though.
