You know, for a musical composition such as "Girls & Boys" by Good Charlotte, of which could be simply written off as an adolescent piece of music written at the height of the pop-punk craze of the early 2000's, there is much to be said about the lyrical awareness and social critiquing of the materialistic nature of some individuals, both male and female (though the topic in this case has artistically been broadened to be more generalized to include "all" males and females, and therefore easier to contemplate, and perhaps relate to), namely when the driving force of one's attraction to one another is not "genuine", i.e. based off of chemistry of personality, worldview and perspectives, and other deeper human mindsets; instead gravitating toward desire of material goods and other "superficial" means of connection and displays of luxury, excess, and abundance. It could be said that while perhaps not the first to do, this type of deeper lyrical content may only be found in few groups of the era and genre, one being Good Charlotte themselves, and may often be disregarded or simply unnoticed due to their level of perceived popularity, positioning in popular culture, along with the choice of outward appearance and overall demeanor portrayed by the artists themselves, whether they be a natural or marketing decision by the group. As they say, you cannot judge a book by its cover; this may be a prime example of such. ANYWAY HERE'S A 80'S COVER LMAOOOOOOOO
That's exactly what I though back on the day, but to me GC is not just pop punk, this band has itw own "vibe" really, some of their songs have hip hop elements mixed with goth synth, what a band !
Great work btw, but funny enough I've always thought tbis song was like parody of a 80s summer hit... But now I imagine Patrick Bateman playing this song in his apartment and saying your analysis of your song out loud before murdering someone lol.
That is kind of the basis of the song.... it was pretty obvious. ...its even further made obvious with the lyrics "all the boys and all of the girls losing thier souls in a material world. Also, it wasnt cool at all to like GC, SP, Blink etc back in 2000s....now it is.
